Work Text:

The sun shines through the curtains, feeling almost like a threat. Ren blinks his eyes awake, raising a hand to shield his eyes away from the rays that are assaulting his irises. He turns his head to try and block it out altogether, when he sees a pair of eyes looking at him in turn. He hums softly with a smile, "Good morning."

Those reddish brown eyes look tired, half asleep really. Goro closes them once more and buries his face into Ren's shoulder, "Too early," he grumbles, snaking an arm around the other's waist and pulling him closer, "Can we go back to sleep?"

Ren laughs, an airy, joyful sound, "Well, you can, but I need to open LeBlanc this morning. Don't you have to work?"

Hearing that Ren has to leave the bed at all, Goro uses the arm he has snaked around him and pulls him even closer, almost possessively, "No, I took today off," he mumbles, "The other detectives can pick up the slack."

Raising a hand and gently running his fingers through Goro's hair, Ren smiles, "I wish I could lay in bed with you all day. I love when you're clingy like this. But—"

"No," Goro protests, cutting the other off, looking up at him, a desperation in his eyes, "No buts. It's one day. They can open the cafe without you for one day."

"Ah yes, let me just call up Sojiro, who is retired, and tell him that my husband wants to cuddle, so I can't open the cafe," Ren teases and presses a kiss to the top of his head.

"That sounds like an excellent plan," Goro grins up at him, deciding a kiss to the head wasn't enough. He kisses his lips, making a very tempting offer all the more so. When he pulls away, he gazes into those grey eyes with a not-so-innocent smile, "I am feeling possessive today. Can't you indulge me?"

"Mm…" Ren ponders this. Goro has grown a lot over the years, and it's not nearly as rare now for him to be clingy and loving, but he still finds himself unable to resist the charms of the man who is currently holding him captive. It's true when they say that couples seem to grow more like each other as they grow together. As the years have gone on, it's gotten harder and harder for Ren to resist the brunette, just as it was difficult for the brunette to resist him all those years ago.

"What if I wither away and die without your attention?" Goro pleads, looking up at him, his eyes akin to a puppy's.

Ren can't help but laugh softly, "You're making some very valid points here, you know. You're making it harder and harder for me to resist your charms."

"Ah, well, you know," Goro grins mischievously, "That's your own fault. You're the one who insisted that we make this work, after everything happened. You're the one who pulled me into your clutches, whose charms I couldn't resist. If you think about it, you're the reason why I am the way that I am."

Rolling his eyes, Ren laughs, "Yeah, alright. As if you didn't want this too. Am I, or am I not, the first person you reached out to when you woke up?" he raises an eyebrow.

"That is entirely beside the point," Goro counters.

"Is it though?" Ren smirks.

"Logically speaking," Goro sits up on an elbow to study Ren, "If you hadn't been so stubborn and insistent for that entire year—"

"It was six months."

"Regardless," Goro continues, "You were the one who gave me something I'd never had. You made me hate you, you made me love you, you made me envious of you. I shot you. In the head. And you still fell in love with me. Who do you think is the real crazy one here?" he asks, raising an eyebrow.

"Mm," Ren hums, "Still you."

"You know what? Maybe you should go open LeBlanc, if you're going to make attempts to deflect my reasoning," Goro teases as he sits up.

"Nope, you already convinced me to stay," Ren pulls him back down and relishes in the small yelp he hears from Goro as he does so, entangling their legs in the process, "Besides, I'm not deflecting. I just think there's no point in hashing out the past. Regardless of whose fault is what, we're here. And I want to spend my morning with you."

It is then that a loud, rumbling growl is heard underneath the sheets. Goro looks over at Ren, who looks up at him with a raised eyebrow. The two are quiet as they stare at each other, no judgment, no unspoken tension, just waiting for the other to say something. And so the brunette finally does, "Don't—"

"Curry?" Ren grins, untangling himself and rolling out of the bed.

"Ugh," Goro lays back with a huff and a groan, "Damn traitorous stomach…"

I miss them so much, I just needed to write something cute.
