Work Text:

"Shouta," Izuku sighed in exasperation as he stared at the small black kitten that was currently fighting with a ball of yarn. "Come on, this isn't funny anymore. My head hurts, my eyes itch, and these stupid ears feel like there's cotton in them."

They had been accidentally hit by a quirk as they were in the park. It had been an unexpected quirk manifestation where the little girl had swapped their quirks. It hadn't been immediate, but something they found out about fifteen minutes later as they got home. Sound became muffled and not coming from the top of his head, unable to feel his tail swishing. His eyes became itchy and his head was starting to hurt, even after putting some of Shouta's eyedrops in.

Shouta, on the other hand, sprouted ears and a tail. He was absolutely ecstatic as he realized that their quirks were swapped. And the first thing the asshole did was shift into a cat and start zooming all over the place. It was funny for maybe the first ten minutes, but Izuku was jumping over every unknown sound because he couldn't tell exactly where the sounds were coming from - majority of them were from Shouta.

He reached down and picked his husband up by the scruff of his neck, the kitten meowing loudly before dangling in defeat with a definite pout that looked absolutely adorable. He should call Shouta's nephew Hitoshi to come help him watch over his menace of a husband until the quirk reversed. It had to reverse, right? He wouldn't be stuck like that forever, right?

The thought hit right then and there. The idea of not being able to shift, to connect with his other self hurt. He didn't know what he would do and it made tears start to slide down his cheeks. He couldn't do this. He couldn't... he couldn't live without his cat side.

He felt the kitten twist before it shifted, Izuku losing his grip on the scruff as Shouta turned back into a human. He carried Izuku over to the couch, sitting down with him and holding him as Izuku cried on him.

"What's wrong, kitten?" Shouta asked, tilting his head to the side in a very cat manner. "Were you that upset that I was playing as a cat? I'm sorry if I was being frustrating."

Izuku shook his head. "M-my head hurts and my eyes itch and... and I just want to be a cat again. I don't like not being able to hear right or see right. I don't like this at all."

"I'm sorry, kitten," Shouta murmured, rubbing his back. "I'm sorry that my quirk is hurting you, but it's just temporary."

"But what if it isn't?" Izuku asked, looking up at him with the most devastated look Shouta had ever seen on the green haired man's face. "What if we're stuck like this?"

"You can't think like that. Tsukauchi's already called a quirk councilor with an analysis quirk. We're just waiting to hear what he says."

That didn't do anything to help Izuku's anxiety in fear. Instead of trying to placate his husband, they went to the bedroom. Shouta wanted to make sure that Izuku wasn't suffering from the migraine he consistently had because of his quirk. The lights were turned off and Shouta wrapped his arms around Izuku, spooning the shorter man.

Izuku felt Shouta fall asleep against him, deciding to get up and get his phone from the other room. He sent a text to Tsukauchi before going into the kitchen to find something to munch on. He wasn't sure why, but he wanted to try Shouta's juice pouches. He'd never been able to because of cat allergies, but... did that mean he would be able to now?

Throwing caution to the wind, he grabbed one of the juice pouches, sipping on it before spitting it out and grimacing. They tasted absolutely horrible. He tossed them all out, deciding to do so before Shouta woke up and could stop him. He wasn't going to allow them in the house anymore.

"Izuku?" He looked up at Shouta in surprise. "What are you doing out here?"

"I was trying to find something to eat and text Tsukauchi."

Their front door suddenly opened, getting their attention. It was either Hitoshi or Hizashi, neither of which Shouta wanted to see and the latter Izuku wanted to throw out. Neither of them said anything as they walked out, finding Hitoshi who just blinked at them in surprise before fishing out his phone and taking a picture of Shouta.

"Toshi," Shotua growled, his fur bristling in annoyance.

Izuku couldn't help but giggle at that. Did he look that adorable when he got annoyed.

"What happened?" Hitoshi asked.

"Quirk accident with a manifestation," Shouta answered as he stretched, flexing his fingers as he arched his back. "Izuku's suffering with a new mental quirk. And I get to be a cat."

Izuku glared at his husband before turning to their nephew and asking, "Why are you here?"

"Uh, Nedzu asked me to drop off some things for you," Hitoshi answered, pulling out a couple of files. "I was at the school working on a project with Kaminari."

"No loud blonds," Shouta sighed in exasperation.

"Yeah, yeah," Hitoshi said before grinning as he looked at his phone. "Mom says she thinks you look adorable."

Shouta lunged at his nephew who lept out of the way. Izuku watched as his husband shifted and chased the teen out of the room. He shook his head at their antics before hearing something fall to the ground.

"That better not be anything important," he called as he walked into the room before freezing. "Oh my god, I sound like Shouta."

Hitoshi snickered before crying out in pain. Izuku rolled his eyes as he saw that Shouta had been the teen on the ankle. Instead of saying anything, he walked over and picked his husband up by the scruff again, this time pulling him close.

"What's taking Tsukauchi so long?" Izuku grumbled. "He usually responds faster."

Shouta shifted back as he said, "That's why I woke up. I heard your ringtone."

Izuku's eyes widened slightly. Of course, he couldn't hear his ringtone that was set for his sensitive cat ears. It was a volume that Shouta couldn't normally hear unless he strained his ears. He grabbed his phone and looked at it before sighing in relief.

"What did he say?"

"The councilor says it should last anywhere from six to twelve hours."

"Good," Shouta mumbled, wrapping his arms around Izuku and kissing the top of his head. "I miss my cuddly kitten."

"Eww," Hitoshi grumbled. "Get a room."

"We have a house," Izuku reminded him. "Scram."

The teen just beamed as he left the room. The others in his class wouldn't believe this when he told them. And Shouta couldn't delete the evidence.

"Let's go cuddle," Shouta softly said. "We can turn on a movie in the bedroom and relax until the quirk reverses."

"Yeah," Izuku mumbled in agreement before perking up. "I have an idea for a lesson we can teach your homeroom class."

"No, we can't get that little girl to use her quirk on the students," Shouta sighed.

"Damn," Izuku swore softly as he closed the door, his fears finally fading enough to allow him to relax and enjoy the time with his husband's wildest dream come true.
