Nataku stepped inside the room, paused, blinked at the scene before him, and then looked to his fellow knight in disbelief. "Rock. . ."
"Yes, Nataku?" Despite the fact that his personal office appeared to have been turned into a jungle, birds and all, the Knight-Commander was sitting at his desk utterly unphased.
"Do you. . . how did. . . what happened?" It was even warm. Nataku was as amazed by the detail in the illusion as he was by the amount of mana needed to create and power the illusion.
"Who's responsible, you mean?" Rock calmly retrieved his cup of tea from under a leaf the size of his head, and took a sip. "I believe this is Battle getting back at me for turning Sir Snuffles the Third and company into that fantastic array of colours." And even making some of them walk upside down, to the delight of the two youngling knight gundams under Nataku's care.
"Battle doesn't have the mana for this," Nataku protested. He reached out to touch the nearest piece of greenery, feeling the tingle of mana underneath the feel of a thick, waxy leaf.
"He does, if he worked with someone else." Rock nudged aside a vividly-patterned bird and set his cup down. "I believe the King decided to help him."
Nataku opened his mouth to protest once again, but he'd known the King since they were both little. He could not find himself truly surprised that the King helped Battle get back for the prank done on his cats.
The bird jumped to roost on Rock's crest, who only sighed. "The animals are Battle's portion," he said. "That's always been his specialty. In fact-" he paused to gently remove the bird and studied it "-I believe this one is real. I saw one much like it in the market yesterday."
Nataku put his head in his hands.
