Work Text:

Today is a day for celebration. The school year has finally come to an end. For the seniors, such as Kyoya and Nile, this is the last day of school, and it ends with a ceremony.

Graduation day is something they have been looking forward to. No more scolding from teachers, no more homework, and no more tests. They would be free to pursue whatever they desire.

Kyoya should have been happy, yet he couldn't find it in himself to even crack a smile. He would never admit it aloud, but a part of him had been dreading this day. While he could relish in the fact that he could return to focusing on being a Blader, it also meant that he was going to lose someone.

Nile is leaving.

A conversation about what to do after graduation had come up long ago. Nile seemed reluctant to speak about his plans, but eventually he told Kyoya that he was going to return home. The news had shocked Kyoya; he even fumbled when asking the reason why. It's worse that he couldn't remember the rest of the conversation from that day. The only thing that stood out was the fact that Nile would be leaving for Egypt soon.

He did his best to ignore the dread in his heart. It wasn't easy, especially when Nile spoke of his home so happily. It made his heart ache, not that he would admit it.

And now, today might be the last day he sees Nile.

Kyoya sighs and keeps to himself. He stays out of sight from the others as he doesn't want to be dragged into the crowd of cheering students. The last thing he wants is to see everyone smiling while his heart aches.

"Hey, Kyoya," Nile calls, stopping him from trying to disappear from the celebration. "What are you doing all the way over here? Don't you want to celebrate with us?"

"Not really," he huffs and crosses his arms. "I'd rather save celebrating over something more worthwhile." Kyoya rolls his eyes. He tries not to meet Nile's gaze.

"Oh come on, even I know you're glad to be done with school." Nile smiles, making it difficult for Kyoya to stay upset.

"Guess so."

"See? I know you're not that big on this, but it'll be nice to celebrate with you again before I go back home."

His words sting, unknowingly. It's a brutal reminder despite their casual conversation. He's leaving. Soon. Maybe in a day or so, Kyoya couldn't recall. He doesn't want him to leave. Not now or ever.

He doesn't hear what Nile says to him. His mind is more focused on not letting him go. There are so many feelings bubbling in his chest. As much as he wants to keep them hidden from the world, from him, he can't.

"Wait," Kyoya stops him. Nile had taken a step back. The sudden movement caught his eye. A hand reached out to grab his wrist, holding him in place.

He reacts before he can even think about what he's doing. Kyoya tugs Nile close, his hand keeping him steady. He leans forward and presses his lips against his. His heart races from the simple action. It's quick, yet longs for more. When he pulls back, Kyoya hopes that everyone is too busy with the celebration to notice what he has done.

"Kyoya..." Nile breathes out with a slight blush on his cheeks.

"I'd prefer if you stayed," Kyoya starts. His cheeks flush as he keeps his eyes on him. The grip on his wrist tightens. "But I know you have to leave."

"I won't be gone forever," Nile replies. "I'm going home, but I'll come back. Especially for you."

His words are reassuring. Kyoya knows that whatever promise he makes, he'll keep it. The heaviness in his heart begins to disappear now that he knows they will see each other again. A genuine smile forms on his face as he can finally enjoy their graduation together.
