Work Text:

"You need to look good for the party," Shindou states as she makes Ibuki take a seat at her vanity.

"I'll be fine if I go like this," she huffs and crosses her arms. It isn't the first time she's gone to some dumb party without any unnecessary additions. Ibuki has always gone casual, never wearing a fancy dress or bothering with makeup.

"I can't believe you've gone out like this before..." Shindou mutters. She takes in a breath and decides that it's best not to start a fight. The last thing she wants is Ibuki storming out of her room after she had somehow agreed to be here in the first place.

"I'll only apply a little bit of makeup, okay?" As much as she wants to do more, it's best to start simple and ease her into this since it's unfamiliar territory. "Just eyeliner and lipstick."

Ibuki stays silent, which is a good sign. Her gaze lingers upon her reflection. Not finding anything out of place, her eyes drift to the bottles, sprays, brushes, and everything else neatly arranged around her vanity. While she recognizes some name brands, she doesn't know what half of these things even do.

"Fine," Ibuki sighs.

Maybe it'll be worth giving this whole makeup thing a try. Shindou manages to look pretty, with or without makeup on. Ibuki has never understood how she manages to look so beautiful even while playing soccer. It's as if the makeup never smeared or got in her way. Ibuki always thought it would be a pain to deal with, yet she had proved her wrong.

"We'll do the eyeliner first."

Shindou decides to do the more difficult one first. She picks out an unused eyeliner, one intended to be a gift for Ibuki, just in case she would like to try this on her own.

"Alright. I need you to keep your eyes open and to look down. If you need to blink, let me know and we'll take a break."

For once, Ibuki obeys without protest. Not even a huff escapes her. She tenses when the eyeliner is applied and nearly flinches back. It takes everything in her not to move as Shindou applies the makeup on her.

Keeping her eyes open and steady is harder than she thought. She can't seem to focus on anything, not to mention that Shindou is close to her. Ibuki gulps, realizing the gap between them feels smaller than when they're practicing on the field. They hardly get this close when playing soccer.

"Okay, look up."

Ibuki's gaze drifts up. Now she can see Shindou working on her. The brunette's gaze is intense from up close as she focuses on making Ibuki look pretty, like her. For a moment, she forgets how uncomfortable the eyeliner feels while looking at her.

"Good," Shindou smiles as she pulls back. Her gaze sweeps over the goalkeeper, proud of her work. "I'm surprised you remained still."

Shindou doesn't appreciate what she's done for long, as she is already turning to her bag to pull out some lipstick. There are a few colors to choose from. She glances back at Ibuki to determine which one to use. With a smile, she picks out the perfect color.

"Don't move," she issues the command. After uncapping it, she starts to apply the color to her lips, turning them into a softer shade.

Ibuki doesn't move, again. She hardly listens to others, especially when given multiple commands at once. But this time, it's different. She listens. She allows Shindou to carefully paint her face. She's the only one who can do this.

This time, when Shindou steps back, she allows Ibuki to see her reflection. Her eyes widened in surprise. Her eyes look sharper and her lips fuller. She almost wants to touch them to make sure it's real, but knows better to do so in front of Shindou.

"Can you do this again?" She asks before even realizing it.

Shindou is about to tell her that she can learn and do this herself. She doesn't need to constantly be doing this for her. And yet, she finds that she enjoyed doing this. She hardly gets to apply makeup to someone else. And she was able to spend more time with Ibuki, not that she would admit that she enjoyed that part.

"I suppose I can..." Shindou lets out a sigh, yet smiles. "Next time, I'll add more color and teach you as well. For now, we need to finish getting ready for the party."
