Chapter Text
Yosuke Hanamura has always been girl crazy, that’s what he’s been told at least. He loved them even though when he thought about it he really couldn’t think of any specific reasons. He loves girls because he’s supposed too, right? What other option is there? Thats what he always told himself anyway. So why was he blushing like an idiot over some boy? Well, not just some boy that boy would be his best friend. Yu Narukami, his partner and good friend. Every since that boy stepped foot into his classroom it set a small spark aflame in Yosuke’s heart. He would never admit that himself though. That boy with thick silver bangs and nonchalance about him. In a town that talked so much it felt like a grace to meet someone who talked so little. It made Yosuke’s brain twinge with curiosity. He knew that day that he had to figure out this mysterious transfer student no matter what.
Since that day they have been through so much together. It’s not everyday you learn there’s a tv world that is connected to the murder’s in your town. Though during these months Yosuke could proudly say he reached his goal. Currently he’s lying on the floor of Yu’s room at the Dojima residence. “It’s too hot…” he groans out as he talks over the sound of cicadas. “You said it was too cold just a few months ago.” Yu says with a small smirk not looking up from his book. “Whatever man.” The brunette says with a sigh and rolls over to sit up and look at Yu. For awhile he just stares at him, taking in the familiar sight of his light hair glowing in the sun and the focused look on his face. This is a view that never failed to fill Yosuke with ease and yet a sense of want at the same time. He clears his throat and looks away with a pinkish tint playing at his cheeks. “What’s up with you?” Yu asks nonchalantly and still not looking up from his book. “Nothing… just a bit of a scratchy throat is all.” Yosuke responds and leans back on his hands. Yu looks up from his book at the other “Mhm” he says and then continues reading.
Yosuke’s mind falters and he just stares wide eyed. What was that? Why did my heart just do that weird thing again? He thinks to himself. He continues to just stare hoping to bask in the light of Yu’s attention once more. “Is there something you want to talk about?” Yu asks looking up from his book at the other. Yosuke averts his gaze and rubs the back of his neck “I mean, no not really. Sorry I just sort of spaced out.” Yu doesn’t look entirely convinced but shrugs and goes back to reading his book. Yosuke tries to distract himself with his game boy. Though it’s hard to when your starter Pokemon is named after the person that’s next to you.
Time passes and it’s getting darker, at this point the two boys are closer to each other as Yu watches Yosuke play Pokemon. After a defeat in a gym battle Yosuke turns off the game boy in frustration. The boy lets out a heavy sigh and lays his back onto the floor again. He shuts his eyes and doesn’t notice the movements of the other. What he does notice is the breath against his face and his eyes jolt open. Yu is right above him. Their lips are close. Is this really happening? The grey haired boy widens his eyes and speaks “Is it okay if I do something?” he says only for Yosuke’s ears. “I mean- yeah totally.” Yosuke replies with a nervous laugh. His heart is pounding as Yu’s eyes flutter closed and he leans in closer. Then suddenly it happens. The sparks ignite in Yosuke’s heart and mind. Sparks that wouldn’t go out for centuries. Their lips have met and it feels like they were meant to all this time.
That was some random weekend in the summertime. It is now the last week of summer. Honestly since that day it’s been mesmerizing. They have hung out and shared sweet kisses surrounded in the silence of the night. Yu has become more touchy since that day. He has started to run his fingers casually through Yosuke’s hair. Sometimes they with cuddle as well but the heat isn’t really ideal for that. Are they a couple? Probably not, that would be weird they were best friends and both boys. Yosuke would try to convince himself of these thoughts. In reality he didn’t know and it was terrifying. When they’ve hung out with their other friends it’s like nothing has changed. That should be a good thing for Yosuke but somehow he felt an emptiness about it. When Rise or any of the other girls flirt with Yu even slightly it makes Yosuke sick. He had no idea what this all meant but he was so tired of it. Yosuke just wanted to spend his days with Yu, his partner.
It’s a Tuesday, the last one of summer break. Yosuke and Yu are sitting on the sofa in Yu’s room. Yosuke is pushed against the arm of the sofa while Yu is kissing him. Everytime their lips touch it feels like liquid gold. Like he’s being completed just by other’s lips. Neither of them have really established what they are. Yosuke doesn’t mind though, whatever it is is just between them. Yosuke pulls away for a moment “I need a drink of water.” Yu snorts and stops pinning Yosuke. The brunette scurries to drink his water while trying not to choke.
Yosuke feels a familiar gaze on him while he puts down his water bottle. He turns slightly to look at Yu and meets his gaze. It’s that look Yu gives him far too often. The one that makes him feel like a butterfly pinned down, the one that makes his breath falter slightly. Those grey eyes linger over Yosuke’s face and drift down to his neck and then the rest of his body. A small smirk forms on Yu’s lips and he breaks that addictive gaze. As Yosuke’s heart races, so does his mind as he tries to find something to talk about. “Ugh… I can’t believe school starts up again next week.” He says with a groan. Yu smiles “It won’t be so bad.” he says trying to assure his best friend. Yosuke leans back into the sofa and shakes his head “Easy for you to say with your high grades…” he says rolling his eyes. “Though I guess it will be nice to see the girls everyday again.” Yosuke says and a small grin forms on his lips.
The rest of the week flew by way too quickly. I suppose time really does fly when you’re having fun. What’s more fun than hanging out with your best friend almost everyday and occasionally making out? Which is something Yosuke assumes they will do less of with school back in session. Maybe he’s been too careless, he needs to at least try to find a girlfriend. That is what he’s always wanted, right?
The brunette boy woke up to the sound of his alarm blaring and loud as ever. His fist quickly slams down on the top of it and he groans. His eyes open and then squint again as the light of the sun through his window meets his face. “What the hell…” he says as he sits up begrudgingly and slowly makes his way out of bed. Eventually he’s ready for his first day back to school and makes it there relatively on time, for his standards at least. When he enters the school he runs up the stairs to his classroom before the teacher can notice he’s running a little late.
He looks at the seating plan quickly and his face lights up as he sees who he’s sat next to. Swiftly he walks over to a desk in the middle row second to the back and sits down. Immediately he turns his head to his desk mate and his heart flutters seeing that silver hair and familiar face. “Hey man! Seems like we’ll be sitting together this year.” He says with a wide smile as he pats Yu’s shoulder. The other boy’s lips quirk into a small grin “I’m sure the teacher will regret that eventually.” which made Yosuke laugh a little too loudly.
It was the last class of the day as Yosuke was struggling to keep his eyes open and gave up on paying attention a while ago. He jolts once and awhile to try to keep himself awake, this started to catch the attention of the boy next to him. Yosuke heard movement beside him and then felt a touch on his thigh. He jolted slightly and looked over at Yu with wide eyes.
“Dude! What are you doing?” He says as quietly as he can. Yu keeps a collected expression on his face and acts like nothing is happening so as to not draw attention. “Walking you up.” Yu whispers softly close to Yosuke. The brunette’s cheeks turn a bit red and he hastily removes Yu’s hand from his thigh a bit rougher than he meant to. “Just… don’t do that stuff, okay man?” He says and averts his gaze as he turns to watch the teacher. A bubbling feeling started to build in his gut, it was something all too familiar when he thought of Yu and him. Was it shame? Was it disgust? Or was it something close to being in love?
He highly doubted the last possibility.
A soft but drawn out exhale leaves his body as he leans back in his seat and avoids accidentally making eye contact with his best friend. Why was he being like this? Things shouldn’t be weird between them. It’s not his fault that he felt like he was going to vomit at the thought of people seeing them touch each other like that. Surely Yu would understand though, right? He decided that he’d try to talk to the other boy about it after school.
