Summary
One larger tent sits in front of the fire, likely housing the commander of this small group of dragoons. Two soldiers stand guard outside, the others somewhere out of sight. John is thinking of a way to sneak inside when a scream pierces through the air, and Laurens feels his blood turn from hot to deathly cold.
The sounds of the camp drown around him. The birds tweeting, the bustle of men moving back and forth throughout the camp, the breeze picking up stray leaves and scattering them around the woods. All of it may as well be silence, because Laurens hears a voice coming from within the tent.
It’s pained, yelps and whimpers coming like clockwork. Laurens shudders when he hears it, the sound of someone calling for him.
The sound of Alexander crying out his name.

Instead of being reported dead at Schuylkill, Hamilton is taken as prisoner by British dragoons. Refusing to leave his friend's life up to fate, Laurens leaves camp on a mission to bring him back.
