Emu didn’t like to inconvenience people.
She had learned early on that the people in her life were busy, moving toward their own goals, and didn’t have time for her small worries. Her family ran the theme park, her partners were absorbed in their projects… and over time, she had learned to swallow her thoughts before they could become a burden. If it wasn’t important, she didn’t have to say it.
Lightning struck outside, splintering the night with a sudden flash. Emu’s body tensed instinctively. She pressed her pillow harder against her face, trying to smother the scream that threatened to escape. The rumble of thunder rolled through the walls, echoing in her chest.
It’s not important. No one needs to know.

Thunder crashes, guilt creeps in, and Emu convinces herself she can handle it alone… until Nene arrives, calm, steady, and just stubborn enough to make her realize that needing someone isn’t weakness.
