“You’re really telling me that we came to the beach and you forgot to pack a suit?”
Emily huffed, rolled her eyes at Morgan, and shrugged. “Obviously, I didn’t think I would need one. It’s not like we planned a vacation.” She flipped her hand. “Besides, isn’t this a private beach?”
Morgan’s bright smile lit the small room they were in. “Garcia got us a little private pass for the next twelve hours.”
Emily’s brow cranked up. “She can do that?”
JJ’s hand slapped the top of her shoulder, brows wiggling. “She can do anything.”
She heard heavy steps on the porch of the small beach home they were working the case from. “A private beach. Really?” Emily had been to a couple of private beaches in her time. They were hard to get into unless you knew the owner, so she was surprised Penelope could swing it.
Morgan nodded his head. “Yep.”
Tilting her head, memories of her time on private beaches flashed. “Pretty sure I don’t even need one for a private beach.”
The steps paused just behind her, and she watched Morgan’s face light with surprise and shift to her right.
“Need what?”
Emily glanced over her shoulder.
Hotch stood still, intrigued by her sentence and clearly asked because everyone was looking at him, too. His dark eyes flicked around, then landed on her.
Heat spread up her neck. She wasn’t sure what to say to her boss that wasn’t entirely embarrassing. “Nothing.”
“Exactly.” Morgan gently smacked her arm, teasing her.
JJ rolled her eyes and grabbed her hand. “Come on. We are going shopping.”
Reid’s face, from just behind Morgan, scrunched. “Was she serious?”
Emily chuckled as she followed JJ toward the door.
Again, Hotch attempted to find an answer, eyes following her. “Serious about what?”
Instead of responding, Emily shot him a wink and stepped out of the open door.
Behind her, she heard Morgan scoff. “That girl is still such a mystery.”
And to her surprise, Hotch agreed. “Yes, she is.”
JJ hauled her forward, tightened her grip on her hand, and bumped their shoulders. Emily met her eyes as they skipped down the steps towards the car.
They laughed.
