Work Text:

As he approached the golden gates, d3rLord3’s heart was racing. Whatever was behind this, the thing those people were trying to summon, the same thing that’s been following him, he knew it’d change his life forever, he just didn’t know how.

The sight that greeted him beyond the gates was something one could simply not describe. It was everything and it was nothing, his brain suddenly overloaded with knowledge that wasn’t his own. There was one thing that made his thoughts stutter though, a break in the cascading waves of information, a person.

Not just any person, Avery. His name was AveryTheMayo. He’d be on this world one day, d3rLord3 knew that was inevitable, but something about this slimy man had d3r springing into action. His mind told him it was hopeless, he knew there was no saving this man, but he needed to try. Avery made him want to try.

He started running. To anyone else, the direction would seem aimless, but he knew it’d lead back, he knew a lot now. He was scared. Scared of it, scared of this knowledge. Scared for a man, he’d never meet, who made his thoughts clear. Just a brief pause, as he thinks of those green eyes.

Green eyes which will land on that thing if he can’t think of something that isn’t everything. D3rLord can’t let this happen to him. With his heart in his throat he began writing, desperate for Avery to listen.

Whatever you do at the crossroads, don’t turn left.

Don’t be fooled. It’s listening

You can’t outsmart it

It’s listening tom e

It’s watching me

It isn’t from this world

At the crossroads don’t turn left

At the crossroads DONT turn left

At the crossroads don’t turn left

ATt the crossroads dont durn left

At the crossroads don’t turn left

At the crossroads don’t turn left

At the crossroads don’t turn left

As the book landed in the chest, d3rLord3 rushed to throw up, the pain and burden of knowledge finally overtaking him. Shakily, he moved to log off of minecraft, already knowing what his next steps had to be. Fighting the urge to succumb to his mind, d3rLord3 grabbed his keys and his laptop and made his way to his car. He was going to be driving for a while.

He knew Avery lived nearby, so to put off history, d3r had to make distance. As he drove, he lost track of time, fading between what's now, what was, and what will be. His only respite was when Avery crossed his thoughts. Something about him, maybe his innocence or his goofy smile, it just lingered on d3rLor3’s mind. Even if only momentarily, it was everything, no HE was everything. He was all d3r had right now, and that’s why this laptop needed to be far away.

After an unknown amount of time, he was finally there. The storage locker where his story ends and Avery’s will begin. Stepping up to the building, his mind was the clearest it’d been since looking beyond those gates. Each step felt like he was personally digging the grave of the man he cared so deeply for. Ignoring the worker, d3rLord3 went straight for the unit, his unit; the one that Avery would ultimately open.

Slowly, d3r entered the code, fingers shaking as he removed the lock. He took a long, deep breath before gently opening the door, hinges squeaking in a familiar way. He knew after leaving this laptop, it wouldn’t be long before it all comes crashing down again, the vast ocean of knowledge suffocating him, filling him until he’s one with it all. But for a moment, he is at peace, and knowing Avery has just a bit more time is enough to make him not so scared anymore.
