Chapter Text
Dark nights like these were the worst. Yarrow could hardly see anything. He had to stay completely silent, as well, which was not something he was exactly known for.
Everything was silent. Yarrow kept his ears open, eyes wide in case someone attacked.
An ear-piercing screech. Yarrow jumped in surprise. Should he check on the matter? Was Caridea in trouble?
Before he could storm in there and see what that screech was about, a SeaWing ran outside. He was panting, eyes wide as his bioluminescent scales flashed.
Yarrow hurried up to him, his scales shifting to the normal color. “Caridea? What happened? Are you okay?”
Caridea shook his head. Yarrow could tell he was panicked just by the way his tail was slashing around.
“IceWing...” He panted out, “Dead…”
Yarrow’s eyes widened in surprise. The IceWing Caridea was supposed to watch. She was royalty, Yarrow remembered.
“Icecap?” Yarrow asked, “What happened to her? Did someone kill her?”
Caridea glanced around, his talons flexed instinctively. “I don’t know… she just dropped…”
This is bad, Yarrow thought. Very bad. The IceWings will be furious and will probably accuse Caridea of killing Icecap. They already weren’t trustworthy of Yarrow…
“We have to run.” Yarrow whispered. “They’ll never believe us when we say we don’t know who did it! The IceWings already don’t trust us… we have to go!”
Caridea glanced around. He was panicking, and Yarrow could definitely tell. And what Yarrow said couldn’t have helped him calm down at all.
“It’ll be okay,” Yarrow finally said, hoping to comfort him at least a little. “Maybe the queen will believe us.” He offered.
Caridea shook his head. “Who would believe another tribe? We have to… I don’t know…”
Yarrow swallowed. The IceWings will be here any moment now. So, they had to go.
Yarrow quickly took Caridea’s talons into his own, tail intertwining with his. “Let’s go.” Yarrow said quickly.
Caridea didn’t argue, and Yarrow quickly took off with Caridea following behind him.
They’d be alright. Caridea and Yarrow would be safe, so long as they weren’t ever caught.
