Work Text:
today is the day. today is the day daeyoung finally had the courage to confess his feelings to the hottest baseball player of his school club, oh sion.
his long life time crush since he first stepped in this high school. the moment he lays his eyes on him, daeyoung’s heartbeat starts pounding.
with the encouragement of his very supportive friends, he finally had the bravery to confess before anyone else got his crush.
the thing is there were never any rumours about sion’s dating life. whenever he asked people around they would say ‘he’s heartless’ ‘he’s not interested in anyone’. THE oh sion who got bunch of confessions even from the girls school next to them yet none of these people caught his attention?
daeyoung would never forget the first time they interacted with each other. they were classmates for three years straight yet that was the only time they ever had a proper conversation.
“hey, is this seat taken?”
“no, go ahead.”
and the rest of the conversation continued.
daeyoung would not let his chance slip away this time.
💌
the bell rang suggesting it’s the end of the class. daeyoung had planned ahead for this. he’s going to wait for everybody to leave and slip in the letter in sion’s locker.
as he waited around 10 minutes, everybody was gone. he packed up his things and took a deep breath as he stood in front of sion’s locker.
he slipped in the letter and walked out instantly to avoid any people who might have looked at him suspiciously.
“this won’t hurt right?” he muttered to himself.
the next morning daeyoung arrived at his class with chaos erupting.
he scanned the room and oh no wonder. sion was reading the letter.
“sion got a love letter owww.”
their classmates were teasing him and daeyoung was trying to read his expression but what happened next never prepared him.
sion walked to the dustbin and threw it away.
“what the fuck.”
daeyoung felt like he just witnessed a murder in front of his pure eyes.
since his class won’t start until 8, he dashed out to the nearest toilet.
he sat in the cubicle for five minutes trying to recollect himself and not to cry like a little boy.
is he that heartless? daeyoung thinks.
when he calmed down a bit he stood up and pretended to flush the toilet.
as he got out from the toilet, sion walked in.
daeyoung didn’t know what he was thinking but he asked him.
“why did you throw it away?”
sion looked at him through the mirror and chuckled.
“so it really is you.”
daeyoung turned to look at him and raised his eyebrow. “how did you know that?”
“i kinda figured out your handwriting. we were seat mates, remember?” sion was being too casual about it and daeyoung was about to lose his mind.
“i’m not going to give up.”
sion shook his head and sighed.
“keep the spirit.”
daeyoung swore he’s going to make him fall in love with him.
💌
after the letter incident, daeyoung planned his next move to catch his attention.
no matter how busy he got, he never gave up planning for the perfect confession.
here’s his plan, since valentine is approaching, daeyoung’s gonna bake a whole batch of cookies!
he won’t let this go into the trash this time.
daeyoung walked around the school with a heart shaped box in his hand. whenever he passed by, the heart shaped box wouldn’t go unnoticed by other students.
and when he felt like he should just give up, he saw him.
“sion!” he shouted from distance.
daeyoung jogged his way up to him and abruptly stopped in front of him in an awkward stance.
“here. happy valentine sion.”
daeyoung handed out the box to him without looking up to see sion’s reaction. he could feel the temperature of his body rising.
daeyoung slowly tilted his head to see his lovely crush reaction and-
THUD.
the box fell out of his hands.
daeyoung instantly raised his head and furrowed his eyebrows.
“hey! i made that!”
he scanned sion’s face looking for any clues about what he was thinking about and he just stared back with dead expression.
“no.”
sion left him behind with the cookies from the heart shaped box scattered around his shoes.
“what the fuck.”
💌
“maybe i should just give up.”
daeyoung frustratedly munching on the cookies he made while complaining about his failed attempt on confessing to yushi.
“come on. maybe he’s just shy?”
“you’re not helping yushi.” daeyoung with his puffed cheeks swallowing the cookies without proper munching.
“what if- we ask his brother?”
“ryo?”
yushi nodded. “maybe we could get something useful from him.”
they eagerly waited for the younger’s class to finish.
behind the closed door, daeyoung could see ryo focusing on what presented on the board.
“yushi this is a bad idea. i’m gonna embarrass myself.”
“you already did. everyone knows you’ve been chasing sion.” yushi looked at him in disbelief.
“damn that bad?” daeyoung lowered his head in embarrassment.
yushi and daeyoung turned their heads when the class’ door opened. students walked past them unbothered.
ryo finally stepped out.
“hey ryo!” yushi called out.
“oh yushi.” ryo smiled at him.
yushi and ryo were from the same dancing club so they kind of knew each other.
“can we ask you something?”
yushi nudged daeyoung to speak up.
before he could open his mouth, ryo teased.
“ah the chaser. hi daeyoung-hyung.”
“right- wait no. whatever. i just wanna ask. daeyoung stuttered.
“sure.”
“does your brother happen to like anyone?” daeyoung voices slowed down.
“he does actually.” ryo casually said.
“ow.” daeyoung and yushi said in unison.
“does that mean i don’t have any chance?” daeyoung sounded desperate because he is! he’s desperate for that boy he’s been crushing on for too long.
“are you gonna give up?” ryo questioned him back without answering.
the air suddenly went quiet.
daeyoung shook his head.
“then you do. goodbye guys.” ryo waved at them lazily and walked away leaving only them in the hallway.
“what does that even mean…”
“he does have the same attitude.” yushi claimed.
“it’s in the genes.”
daeyoung and yushi bursted out laughing.
💌
sion were laying on his stomach doom scrolling his phone when he heard a knock.
“come in.”
ryo appeared behind the door.
“are you gonna be like this forever?”
sion looked at him with confusion.
“be like what?”
“a coward.” ryo continued.
sion was a bit offended by his words. he knew well what his younger brother was trying to say but he was not a coward. he just- okay he is a coward.
“stop rejecting him and be honest with yourself.” ryo definitely disappointed in him but what can he do when he is just scared to be in love?
“you never know though. what if someone bets on him to confess to me?” sion sat up explaining the possibilities of the impossibilities.
“the one who would do that is you, hyung.” ryo shook his head disappointingly.
sion was left alone in his room trying to figure out his thoughts. he may have something for daeyoung…? he just found him attractive or so he thought.
“whatever.” sion grumbled at himself.
💌
this time daeyoung’s self esteem was drowning so he thought of giving up but then yushi gave him an idea.
“text him.”
so that’s exactly what he's gonna do right now.
yushi was sitting next to him waiting impatiently for him to send the damn text.
“daeyoung-ah just send it!”
“okay, okay.”
daeyoung pressed send.
daeng
hey sion, it’s me daeyoung. i like you so much. i hope you’ll reconsider my feelings. have a good day sionnie.
after waiting for the whole day no notification was received. daeyoung wanted to smack yushi for this.
“i told you! he hates me.”
“try texting him again.”
“you do it.” daeyoung passed his phone to yushi.
he was pacing around his room until yushi made a shocking noise.
“ow.”
“what is it?” daeyoung went to him and grabbed his phone back.
“your text was undelivered now. i fear he just blocked you…” yushi patted his back to comfort him.
“fuck my life.”
💌
daeyoung woke up with a motive today. he will confess his feelings! again.
he wished his efforts on confessing his love could be applied to his study but that’s a different story.
finally the school festival that students were eagerly waiting for was happening. daeyoung, as a musical club member, of course got to perform something.
here’s the plan. he would perform the song he wrote hoping for sion to be there and see him. then he would find him after the festival finished so he could be face to face with him without that many people crowding.
as daeyoung stepped on the stage, his first instinct was to search for him. he scanned through the crowd and laid his eyes on him. he saw sion with his usual crowd teasing him when they saw daeyoung on the stage.
he reached for the standing microphone and greeted the crowd.
“hello, i’m kim daeyoung! today i will be performing ‘cheat code’ by me! let’s sing it together!” he raised his voice to lift up the mood.
the band began playing and daeyoung started singing the song.
the crowd was cheering and singing with him and he smiled widely as he enjoyed himself on the stage.
daeyoung locked his eyes with sion multiple times for it to go unnoticed.
the performance ended eventually. most of the students clapped and cheered for him. he thought it would be a failure but actually no.
he met up with his friends congratulating him for his performance. they hung out for awhile until daeyoung realised the crowd had become smaller.
daeyoung wandering around trying to find the love of his life and no sight of him in the area.
“he probably went back.” daeyoung exhaled and felt bummed out by his failed attempt at confessing.
he looked up to see the sky shining with stars and the full moon lighting up the world. the perfect weather and timing for everything.
as daeyoung turned around he was taken back by sion who stood in front of him.
“are you gonna confess your love again?” sion spoke out looking very uninterested.
“technically yea.”
it went quiet for awhile then sion spoke again.
“say it.”
daeyoung made eye contact with him and swallowed nervously because why would he want him to confess? is this a threat? daeyoung thinks.
“i like you, sion.”
for the first time sion smiled at him.
“i’ll think about it.”
“what?!” daeyoung’s voice went high pitched.
before daeyoung could properly react sion already leaving him behind.
“goodnight daeyoung-ah.” sion lazily waved his hand while walking to the opposite direction.
“no way.”
💌
after the festival, daeyoung was never sane about it. yushi has been hearing the same thing from the day it happened until now and daeyoung seems to not see the end of it.
“what if it’s a prank? someone puts a bet and pay him?” daeyoung was overthinking it sometimes because after multiple times he confessed and he suddenly said he’ll think about it? strange.
“daeyoung there is no what if.” yushi desperately wanted him to stop now because he lowkey wanted to choke daeyoung to death or drown him in the near river.
their debate was interrupted when the teacher announced a group project.
the whole classroom was filled with whines and groans.
the teacher announced that she already paired people up so they have no choice to say anything about it.
“sion and daeyoung.”
daeyoung and sion looked at each other. sion wore a calm face as he usually does while daeyoung was blushing like crazy.
“you’re so embarrassing daeng…” yushi whispered as he shook his head at his friend’s ridiculous behaviour.
the bell rang and all the students parted their ways. some of them were discussing the project and some of them just went back.
both of them decided to stop by the library to resurface their ideas on the project.
daeyoung couldn’t contain his excitement as they walked beside each other close enough for him to feel sion’s brushing with his.
as they settled down on the window table, sion pulled out his notes so does daeyoung.
the entire time daeyoung was over the moon sitting in front of sion who's a lot more focused than he was.
“aren’t you gonna jot down anything?” sion said without looking up to him.
“i did jotting down though.” daeyoung sounded defensive.
“you’ve been staring and i don’t see your hand working on it.” sion finally lifted his head. as if a cinematic wind just passed by, sion’s hair falls back perfectly as he discarded through it.
“i like you so much.” daeyoung blurted out.
they both fell into silence.
“i’m sorry. let’s get back to-“
before daeyoung could finish his sentence, sion leaned forward to reach his notebook. sion’s hand brushed against his when he took the pen from his hand.
he scribbled something down then pushed it back to him.
‘give me some time, i like you too.’
daeyoung abruptly lifted his head to say something but sion already packing up his things.
“see you tomorrow daeyoung.”
daeyoung’s world felt full of confetti and rainbows. he smiled ear to ear by himself staring at the note.
“he’s gonna be the death of me.”
💌
it’s finally the baseball season. and it’s finally sion’s season to shine.
as an ace pitcher, he’s been waiting for this for almost an entire year and he would not fumble this up.
the team was preparing for themselves in the locker room, then the coach ushered them to hurry and get to the field.
sion was scanning on the bench trying to find someone. there was no sight of him on the bench and somehow sion felt a bit disappointed.
“are you searching for your lover boy?” one of his teammates nudged him.
“i’m not.” sion lied.
fortunately when he was getting ready to deliver the ball, he heard him. the loudest cheer on the field. sion could only glanced up and smiled at him.
oh he so gonna win the game today.
at long last the game was over and sion’s team brought back a championship trophy. the coach congratulated the team and they fell into a group hug.
sion excused himself when he saw ryo approaching him with two other people. daeyoung and yushi.
“congratulations sion-hyung!” ryo engulfed him in a tight hug.
they hugged for awhile before letting go.
“congrats on your win sion.” daeyoung stepped forward, hesitating whether to just stand there or give him a congratulatory hug.
eventually sion pulled him in for a hug. ryo and yushi were taken back by his bold act.
sion pulled away wearing a big grin on his face.
“would you like to be my boyfriend?” sion asked with eyes full of hope. finally ryo cannot call him a coward anymore.
daeyoung frantically nodded at the question.
“yes! hell, what kind of question is that? yes i do like you so much oh sion and i want to be yours.” daeyoung launched himself at sion suffocating him with a hug. sion swore he could feel how hot daeyoung’s body was as if it was him who just finished a game.
without realising, their surroundings were cooing at them. ryo and yushi were on their phone recording everything and daeyoung rushed to pull away out of embarrassment.
sion who was overjoyed about it and had zero embarrassment, suddenly grabbed daeyoung closer and signaled to them.
“he’s mine everybody.”
daeyoung hid his face at the crook of sion’s neck. despite being bigger than him, he tried to make himself smaller.
some people were cooing and some were gagging in a playful way.
“thank you for being a loser and not giving up on me.” sion stared at daeyoung’s face trying to memorize everything.
“hey…i’m not a loser?” daeyoung was offended by his statement but laughed it off after that.
“even better as a loser than a coward.” ryo shoots back at him.
the four of them burst out into laughter at the joke.
maybe the multiple rejection was actually worth the wait.
