Suffering

Summary:

Sherlock is home alone with his teenage daughter and Cybil is not having a good day at all because her body is not having a good time on this current day.

Work Text:

John has been going all around London, running errands while Sherlock has been at home alone with their daughter. Cybil has not been feeling great for the past couple of days and as of today, she found out why she has not been well. It is Cybil’s time of the month. She hates this time of the month. It causes her a lot of pain, fear and a bit of overstimulation. As Sherlock walked down the hallway of their home, he heard crying coming from Cybil’s bedroom. He quietly but quickly rushed over there and gave the door a couple of knocks.

“Cybil? Are you okay there? Can I come in to check on you and talk with you for a few minutes, please?” Sherlock asked a few questions at once. It took a few seconds to get an answer, but Cybil granted him permission to come on in. When he opened the door to his daughter’s room, he saw Cybil on her bed. She had been crying and trying not to move a muscle.

“Why does it have to be like this, Papa? Why do I have to be in a lot of pain and bleed so much? I hate it!” Cybil suddenly asked him and exclaimed. Sherlock felt so bad for her.

“It just is a biological thing that happens for some girls and women. I wish I truly could give you a straight answer.” Sherlock replied. Cybil slowly sat up on her bed and looked at him, still with tears streaming down both of her cheeks.

“Sometimes, I feel like cutting out my own uterus because it hurts that much. Plus, I hate seeing so much blood coming out of my vagina every single month. It is so gross and makes me feel weird. Physically and mentally, it messes with me, and I cannot stand it.” Cybil told him, spilling out her emotions to him.

“Well, it would not be a good idea to cut that part of your body out, but I do understand how you feel.” Sherlock told his daughter. Cybil let out a sigh.

“Men are so lucky. They do not have to deal with this every month like I have to. I really wish sometimes I could wake up one morning and I have become a guy. Not that I am saying I hate being a girl or anything like that but having a period just makes me feel that way, too.” Cybil said to him. Sherlock sat down on the bed next to his child.

“You know, I never really have seen a woman go through this before until well, you started to have one. Still, I have heard and read the stories from other women who have them and I am really sorry that you have to go through this like you are because it makes you feel so much pain and discomfort in and for your body. And I am always here for you when you need me.” He told her.

“Thanks, Papa. I know it is not the whole month it lasts but still, it is a lot longer than I wish it would. Thank god I stocked up on pads and stuff so Dad does not have to pick any up while he is out. By the way, do you know when he will be home? I bet it is so embarrassing when either of you have or need to pick those up for me when being in public.” Cybil said and asked out of curiosity.

“Nah. It does not bother me personally because if it helps you then I am glad to get them. For your dad, I doubt it bothers him, too. Remember, he is a doctor. Probably has seen a lot of worst things when it comes to blood and things like that. Neither of us feel weird about getting them for you at the shops. You are our kid, and we want to make sure that you have what you need to make you feel better.” Sherlock said back to her.

“Thank you both. I can get them on my own but sometimes, I just do not feel good enough to go out when I have this.” Cybil spoke.

“We both understand that Cybil. And we do not mind. We love you.” Sherlock spoke back. Cybil smiled for the first time since her Papa has been in the bedroom with her.

“I love you both, too.” Cybil responded then got an idea.

“Could you stay up here with me for a little bit longer? Please?” Cybil asked, begging her Papa to stay in her room with her. Sherlock smiled.

“Of course.” Sherlock answered and got comfortable on the bed while hanging out with his daughter.

######

About an hour later, John returned to the home from being out. As he went into the living room, he saw that Sherlock was not in there.

“Hmmm? Did him and Cybil go out or something and forgot to let me know?” John thought to himself then began to look around the house just to make sure that they were home or not, which can also be a bit worrying for him. As he reached the hallway and walked down it, he noticed that the door to Cybil’s bedroom was slightly cracked open. John rushed over and carefully opened it. When it was open, what he saw was his husband, laying on his daughter’s bed with her. Both of them were napping together.

Cybil was curled up against her father for comfort while Sherlock had an arm around her to keep her in place.

“Awe.” John said quietly to himself then quietly took out his phone and snapped a picture of the two of them before finally heading back downstairs. When Cybil woke up, she noticed that her Papa was not in bed with her anymore and got out of it as she heard both of her parents’ voices coming from downstairs. As she went down the steps, the three of them suddenly made eye contact.

“Good afternoon, sleepyhead!” John greeted her.

“Good afternoon, Dad. Sorry, I fell asleep with Papa. I was not feeling great and such a mess emotionally, so I wanted some company in my room for a bit. I hope that was okay.” Cybil explained and greeted him back.

“You are perfectly fine, dear. How are you feeling? Papa told me that your time of the month started.” John asked.

“Well, honestly, I am still a bit of a mess physically and mentally because of it but I am a lot better than I was before because of Papa, which I really needed. I am glad he checked on me.” Cybil replied.

“I am glad you feel a little bit better.” Sherlock spoke up.

“Me too. I just wish I was just used to it, but I do not think I will ever get used to it, though. maybe, I will but for now, I am just not liking it too much.” Cybil said to both of them.

“And that is okay to feel that way. We are here for you.” John told her.

“Thank you, Dad. Papa said the same thing. Also…you are not embarrassed when you have to buy me pads and stuff, do you? Papa said he did not, but I was curious about your answer on this.” Cybil asked.

“It does not embarrass me at all. And I do not mind picking them up for you when you need them. I am glad to get them for you because they help you.” John explained.

“I am glad both of you are comfortable with that because I am comfortable with it, too.” Cybil spoke back. Sherlock and John were happy to see their daughter feeling better after the past couple of days. Feeling unwell messes with Cybil so much. And her parents are always going to try to make her feel better or at least give her comfort when she wants or needs it.

I guess having periods is not going to be too bad for me after all. I just wish they were painful and less messy, but I think I am truly going to be fine with having them.” Cybil thought to herself. With that, she walked over to her parents and sat on the couch next to her Papa and spent time with them before the three of them had dinner in the kitchen as a family.
