Work Text:

Angel stood in the middle of his bedroom, the floor was littered with discarded clothes of every shape, size, and color. Pants scattered recklessly, dresses too short for a fancy dinner, and somehow a sock that managed to get stuck to the ceiling, was evidence enough of a struggle.

“How do I have all these clothes and still nothing to wear?!” Angel asked to no one but himself in frustration. Quick flashes of clothes being flung across the room gave the allusion of a battlefield in the midst of a war.

Maybe it was his mind racing, or his nerves or the alcohol he drank to calm himself but it had completely slipped his mind to pick out an outfit before hand.

“It’s just a date…” he muttered, yanking a sweater over his head before realizing it was inside out. Off it went again. “With Husk, what could go wrong…” Angel laughed bitterly, looking to his left at the clock on his nightstand accusingly: 6:48. He need to be down in the lobby by 7.

Angel took a moment to look around, truly look around at what he had, then he saw it. A simple black dress shoved in the back of the closet. It was perfect for the occasion though a little bit plain. To make it more stylized, Angel hurriedly threw on a waist belt made up of tiny heart that jingled every time he moved and thick black leather platform shoes decorated with silver rhinestoned hearts, hopping on one foot when he couldn’t get the shoes on quick enough. Classy white gloves and makeup was haphazardly thrown into his bag without a second thought.

As he sped out the door, only barely remembering to grab his purse, all he could think about was how extremely late he was. Angel would probably get a light scolding later from Husk about punctuality.

But as Angel made his way down one of the staircase, he looked over to see his gambler of a partner doing the same. Husk must have felt the staring as he slowly looked up to see his pink haired partner doing the same thing as him.

Their paces slowed as the made they way towards each other both seemingly aware of the moment they’ve caught themselves in. Once in the middle lobby, they stopped, standing just a few feet apart, looking as if wanting to say something.

“I didn’t know what to wear..” Both men blurted out in unison. For a moment, all they could do was stare at each other in surprise. Then, without warning, they burst out laughing. It was awkward and loving, but in the best way.

“I got these for you, Legs” Husk finally catching his breath long enough to speak. Angel couldn’t tell if it was from the laughing or the cat’s nerves but the shaking of the tightly gripped flowers was obviously, though Angel would never ruin Husk’s illusion.

Angel reached out for them, brushing his hands against Husk’s as he picked up the flowers to admire them. Roses, but each and every one of them was a different shade of pink or red.

Angel’s heart could do nothing but flutter in the moment. The feeling of being loved and understood was overwhelming like a weighted blanket for his soul, and without thinking he leaned in, gently cradling Husk’s warm fuzzy face before kissing him. He noticed how Husk’s breath hitched, stiffening, before melting into the kiss. The warm buzz of love surrounded them and the world faded for a moment. Just them floating in the quiet intimacy of their embrace.

Angel finally pulled away, giggling at how some of his lipgloss was left behind on Husk’s lips.

He used his big thumb to wipe it away, stopping for a second to memorize what his partner look like in this moment before asking, “Ready to go baby?”

Husk chuckled deeply, before taking Angel’s hand to lead him out the door, without another word, clearly left speechless by the kiss.
