Work Text:
Pencil sighed as the still shaken up Book happened to be standing behind Match, to which she blinked her gaze over to Needle, cutting the silence with something sharper than Needle’s point.
“So? Whose side are you gonna take?”
Needle was still frozen up, taking in Pencil’s words, her sight flicking in between Book, and Match, taking a step forward taking Pencil’s hand, to which Pencil only gripped tighter, Match’s look showed one of sadness yet betrayal, taking a step forward.
“So you're just gonna take her side? just like that?”
Needle turned towards Match, following in her betrayed words, Pencil spat back.
“I'm the one who helped Needle when you weren't there, don't start blaming me now for something that's not my fault!”
Needle was invisibly fighting in between running towards Match with a change of heart, or walking away with Pencil, those thoughts being quickly disrupted with a sharp feeling of Pencil getting pushed beside her, Match yelling.
“WHEN I WASN'T THERE? WERE BLAMING ME NOW?!!”
the yelling was loud enough for Needle to start covering her ears, or what could even be considered them, uncovering them after hearing Book’s voice.
“She has a poin-”
“Shut up, Book, you're the one who started this.”
Pencil had sternly cut off Book, causing Book to back down, watching as she turned back towards, Needle slowly backed out watching Pencil turn to face Match, to which Match didn't back down to, but she could see the fear and slight guilt in her expression.
the only thing heard was Pencil’s heavy footsteps away from the situation, off to who knows where, leaving Book defenseless, and Match isolated, Needle started slowly backing up, trying to leave before it got out of hand.
and which she successfully did, but not without a certain Match following her, stopping her by grabbing her hand, Needle slowly turned her body around to the gesture, Match spoke, fear evident in her voice.
“Can you go talk to Pencil for me? i don’t.. feel like doing it, right now.”
Needle stared down Match for a second, not quite yet processing what was happening, before realizing what Match said, walking over to where, at least she thought Pencil was, it would be easy to spot in the geometric plain field with the sky that made your eyes hurt.
either it was just her, or everything was duller than it used to be.
she really didn't want to talk to Pencil, for her sake, but what about Match’s? she won't mind if told just a little lie, right?
Needle slowly inches away from where she could see Pencil, before just walking to where the others were previously, being greeted with the sight of Ruby and Book sitting, and talking, not very surprising, but where was Match? she kinda had to talk to her right now, so, she asked.
“Uh.. where's, Match?”
Book looked over and shrugged, being slightly calmed down now that Pencil was gone, Needle decided it wouldn't hurt to talk to them, she wasn't even quite sure if they were just sitting side by side with each other like some sort of silent therapy, or talking, either way, Needle didn't really care.
Book sighed, starting to speak.
“i dont even know where this all came from.. was it because I joined in on the conversation? Is this all my fault?..”
Book looked over to Ruby with a guilty look, to which Needle responded before Ruby had the chance to.
“No, Book, this isn't your fault, hopefully Pencil will calm down soon.”
Book looked back at Needle with an empathetic expression, watching as the book’s gaze averts to the ground, another moment of weirdly comfortable silence, till Ruby asked a question.
“Soo.. Needle, how'd the chit-chat with.. Pencil go..?”
Needle started stammering quietly, she didn't talk to Pencil, but she could just lie, so she answered.
“Pencil.. said she didn't want to talk right now.”
in which, it probably wasnt a full lie, Pencil wouldve probably said that even if she did talk to her, Ruby shrugged, looking back at the ground, while Book looked disappointed, Needle didn't pay it much mind, getting up, and leaving to go find Match.
