Work Text:
He missed the warmth of the sun, he missed how the rays of light reflected on Egg's feather, how long has it been since Egg last saw the sun? He should have freed him from the end sooner, maybe if he did Minute would still be here and not nowhere to be found. Maybe, Egg wasn't coming for him either, not after leaving him in the end.
He missed roaming around without having to constantly be on alert, to always be paranoid and going days without sleep. He missed Boosfer and Jaden now, Wemmbu couldn't believe what he was thinking but as annoying as they might be, he trusted them at least a little to feel mostly safe around them. He was never a hundred percent sure.
Wemmbu genuinely didn't know how much he wished for another, better, happier, brighter future.
He also missed his brothers. He missed being with Flame even if the other betrayed him, even if the older one didn't give twice a thought before fighting him after being allied for the most part of two weeks. Wemmbu also missed Parrot, he missed the strategic and sharp mind of the other, he missed annoying him, he missed the moments the two of them shared while they preened each other's wings. Even if the bird destroyed and exposed the identity he tried hard to build and protect.
He also missed Spoke, the two of them had one too many similarities with each other but they weren't quite on the same page he thought, from Wemmbu's perspective, the two of them were on neutral terms. He guessed not after all, Spoke had helped Parrot build the enderpearl that got him in the trap in the first place.
He wasn't angry anymore,he didn't have the energy, he was too tired for that. He was giving up slowly, a little each day passed and Lettuce came. He didn't have a way to tell the time but he was sure a week had passed. His desperation grew everyday with this damn muzzle on. Every day that nobody came for him, even though he knew they wouldn't. He couldn't even resent them. Nobody cared anymore, not after all the crazy shit he pulled. The worst thing is that he caused most of this because he was driven by his own ego.
The only thing keeping him sane was holding onto the pain he felt.
And now he laid in this rotten cell, where he would spend the rest of his days. Maybe not, maybe at some point Lettuce would take mercy on him and get him out of his misery. The cell was awfully small, it didn't really go well with his claustrophobia, but he learned how to control himself, his breath, so he didn't panic. After all, nobody was here to help him with that.
When he was first stuck here, Lettuce just stood outside of his prison cell and watched him almost pass out from a panic attack, the red panda only laughed and mocked him outside of his cell.
On one few occasions the verbal violence turned physical but it wasn't common. Like he was trying to keep Wemmbu alive.
It didn't help the chains that limited his movements and weighed down his arms and drained his energy, at the other end of these chains was the stone hard floor. The floor that was now stained with his own blood after fighting Lettuce and getting captured, and getting his injuries poorly taken care of.
At first he had a few commodities here, before he bit down on Lettuce's hand, hard enough to leave a scar and before he got this damned muzzle on.
Usually the red panda just came and asked questions, random ones. He would threaten him, mock him, press him about things he genuinely didn't know and then he was gone leaving him in the dark. Alone and with only his thoughts and body pains to distract him.
Some nights the law leader felt nice and left a torch outside until he came back to make his life worse in the morning.
Except this time it wasn't just Lettuce's pair of footsteps, there were two more accompanying them, he could also hear another faint pair of footsteps after the first three.
Just as he expected the law leader opened the door, nearly blinding him with the torch in his hand in the process. He looked down, not even daring to look at the red panda. Now that they were here the cell sure felt a whole lot smaller, he needed to calm down. His breathing steadied.
"This my friends, is my new dog!" There he was again, dehumanizing him, leveling him with a mere pet. Humiliating him, showing him off to whoever was accompanying Lettuce.
"Bro what the!", "No fucking way, dude!" Two annoyingly familiar voices exclaimed. He finally looked up to meet the familiar, now surprised gazes of Parrot and Flame. The two people who teamed to bring him down, now watching him be treated like a dog, a pet and trophy for Lettuce to show off. Just like he was doing now.
He stared at the two, anger clear on their faces. Had they just come here to finish the job? Were they angry he survived? Why did Lettuce even bring them here? Where was the person who the fourth pair of footsteps belonged to? Had he just imagined the last pair?
"The great Wemmbu finally got his sentence, no?" The spawn hero spoke, mocking Wemmbu. Lettuce laughed at the comment.
He quickly got the memo once the law leader came closer making him tense and let out a groan. He pulled Wemmbu's hair, lifting his face up and showing him off to the two visitors.
The fiery demon and the bird hybrid stared at him with unreadable expressions. He saw the two exchange glances but he wasn't sure what they meant.
Wemmbu was sure he was a pitiful sight, his clothes torn and his crown nowhere to be found, no armour on and a muzzle on his face restricting his words. Badly healed injuries that somehow didn't get infected. His body was a canvas of injuries and bruises that didnt get enough and nutrients to heal up, fuck Lettuce honestly. He tried to glare at them but ultimately failed when Lettuce slapped him, he let out a pained hiss and looked to the ground again. "Behave now, dog."
"Well guys, now let's continue. I'll show you the rest of the base!" Lettuce said as if he didn't just humiliate him in front of the two people he spent a month running from.
The law leader opened the door and exited the cell, Parrot followed. Flame spared him one glance before following too, did the demon feel bad for landing him here? No way right? When he asked for help after their fight he didn't show up.
After he was sure the three went away he forced himself to relax and try to rest, clearly the appearance of those two meant something was about to happen and he wasn't sure if it was good or bad for him. He finally managed to get in a comfortable position to sleep, as well as he could on the cold floor, when the door opened again.
It couldn't be lettuce. He never came back so soon, his breath fastened as he locked eyes with the invisible player on the door... wait invisible player!?
Wemmbu sat straight up fast, making his head hurt. The invisible player in netherite armor just stood there not talking, it was clear they tried to approach Wemmbu but he just flinched and stumbled back until his back hit the wall. A bucket of milk was now on their hand, the invisible player chugged it down to reveal... Spoke!?
The light of the still burning torched glowed and danced against his brother's skin, complementing his rainbow accessories.
"Hey bro, how are we doing!" The voidling said, his voice lacked the cheerfulness he carried everywhere. He must be the reason why the other had given up his smiles. Wemmbu just looked at him dead panned, it's not like he was able to talk.
"Oh shoot, I forgot you couldn't... you know?" Wemmbu just sighed behind the muzzle. This time when the other came closer he didn't flinch or stumble back, he trusted spoke to not hurt him now. Maybe Spoke would kill him? It seemed a no as Spoke began looking over his injuries, after a while he took the chains binding to the ground and got out a shiny key to free him.
He could believe it, it could have been anyone. Spoke was the one to free him from this hell of a prison. His brother, the voidling had come for him, tears gathered in his eyes.
He must have made a sound of confusion because the voidling turned to him and with a soft smile said, "dude, don't you worry. We are getting you out of here."
His brother laughed as Wemmbu's tail wagged a little. He was finally getting out of here! He had missed the outside so much. Tears spilled before he could stop them, Spoke freed him from the chains and lifted one of his hands to caress the chaotic demon's face, brushing away his tear tracks but they continued to fall and stain his cheeks. Spoke reached behind his head to unlock the muzzle, making Wemmbu regain his ability to talk.
This time the demon laughed as he threw himself towards the voidling who yelped and quickly steadied him so he wouldn't move too much and worsen his wounds. Wemmbu buried his head on Spokes' shoulder, "get me out of here." The demon whined hurriedly.
"Bro, im going to! You have to be patient dude!" Spoke huffed, he looked down at his brother on his arms who was definitely going to pass out, "You better not pass out Wemmbu." The voidling stood up and walked through the law base, searching for an exit or their two missing brothers.
Wemmbu took a moment to process his question, and responded softly against his shoulder, "It's just a little sleep.."
"No bro, you need to wait until Parrot checks your injuries!" Spoke almost started running through the base to find Parrot quickly before remembering not to tossle Wemmbu's wounds too much.
"Im just closing my eyes for a second." Wemmbu replied again, hissing when Spoke stopped out of the sudden, he didn't have the energy to lift his head, so he didn't. But he quickly knew why as he heard the voices of the two people who visited him in his cell.
"Wemmbu bro, don't fall asleep yet, we came all this way for you bro." Flames voice came, desperation stained his voice. Parrots' voice came later as he checked Wemmbu's eyes and head, "It doesn't look like he has a concussion, I'll check his injuries once we are out of here." Wembus' questions could wait till later, he was exhausted. His body ached with pure exhaustion.
Wemmbu still in Spokes' arms, finally felt safe after all the time he had spent in that damned cell. His family, his brothers had come for him. Even if they weren't on good terms, if they didn't agree on the same things. They put the differences aside and come for him. He purred softly at the realization and fell asleep in the voidlings arms. He heard the one carrying him laughing at it but it was distant.
Maybe it wouldn't be so bad after all.
