It was a nice and sunny summer day, and all the trees in the park gave enough shade to keep it from getting too hot. There, on two benches, sat two men...
"Come on! Fucking hell."
Takanori had been listening to that same person raging at his phone for the last ten minutes, and was now finally over it. He got up from his bench and marched to the one next to it. He came to a stop in front of the young, black-haired man who held a smartphone in one hand and a singular red rose in the other. "Hey, excuse me!"
The guy looked up at Takanori, but his expression stayed just as irritated. He waited for the other to say something.
"If I wanted to listen to people shout and curse, I would've hung out with my friends. But I came to the park for peace and quiet!"
Now the man seemed to get a bit more apologetic. He put his phone down and sighed. "Sorry. I'm just having a really bad day."
"I can see that." Takanori eyed the guy and the bench, furrowed his brows... He assumed he'd fit well enough. He sat down without invitation.
The raven looked slightly startled. He wasn't used to strangers being so... assertive, but he didn't mind.
"Tell me more about it. Talking helps, you know," Takanori said with a suspiciously sweet smile.
The man seemed doubtful, uncomfortable, maybe even a bit weirded out. But it wouldn't hurt to try, would it? At least it couldn't get any worse. "I was on a first date with this really nice girl last week."
Takanori squinted his eyes. "A date, huh? How did it go?"
"It went well... So well that she wanted to meet again! The second date was supposed to be today."
Takanori was really invested now. Dating drama? Hell yes! He leaned closer without even realizing. "But what happened? You got stood up?"
"No... She said I was doing too much. Is that true?" the guy asked. Now that he mentioned it, Takanori could kind of see why she'd thought that... The raven was dressed in a suit, hair slick with gel and all. And then of course that rose.
Takanori let a small laugh slip. He hadn't meant to, but it was kind of comical how serious the man seemed to have been about it. But then again, was it really a bad thing? "Maybe she just can't appreciate a gentleman. Give that to me." He gestured towards the flower.
The man handed him the rose without questioning anything. He just wanted to get rid of it anyway.
"So... What's the name of this hopeless romantic?"
"Uhh... I'm Yuu."
"Nice to meet you, Yuu. You can call me Taka."
Yuu watched as Takanori played with the rose and poked his finger on the stem's spikes more than once. He couldn't understand how this small, social, confident blond had already made his mood so much better, but he was glad. It was barely after midday and he wouldn't have wanted to spend the whole day sulking.
Now that Yuu took a better look at Taka, he couldn't help but notice how different they were. He had his suit and neat hair while the other was wearing ripped jeans and a white graphic tee. That light hair was combed up into what Yuu could only describe as a bird's nest. And was that smudged makeup around his eyes? Not to mention how tiny he was...
Takanori seemed to lose interest in poking himself as he looked up at Yuu again. "You should forget that girl. Seriously! Let's go for a walk, shall we?" He jumped up from the bench, bowed in front of the other and extended his arm in front of himself.
It was certainly weird for Yuu and a first time he'd met someone like... Well, someone like Taka. But he smiled, put his hand on top of the other's and let himself be helped up.
They walked side by side in comfortable silence at first. Yuu kept thinking about how unusual they must look together, but he liked Taka's company surprisingly much. He had one question that suddenly entered his mind. "...Taka-kun."
Takanori slowed down a bit. He turned his head towards Yuu and had to angle it up a bit. "Yeah?"
"Is Taka your real name or is it shortened? I don't know, from something like Takashi or Yutaka."
The smaller man smirked. He looked back down at his feet and kept walking leisurely. "Close. It's Takanori."
Yuu nodded. He stared at the side of Taka's face, deep in thought... "Nice name."
Takanori suddenly stopped. He turned to the raven with his hands in his pockets, head tilted and a curious smile on his lips. "Are you really this lame? You sure that's not the reason she rejected you?"
Yuu frowned. Was this guy suddenly switching up? "What do you mean? I'm not lame."
"You are. Couldn't find anything else to compliment than my name? I can just imagine going on a date as a girl where the guy is in a suit and all, and then he says he likes my name."
"We're not on a date, are we?"
Takanori only shrugged at that. He began walking again and Yuu followed.
"We could be. You gave me this, after all," the shorter said and lifted the rose in front of his face.
"You took that."
"No, you definitely gave it to me."
Yuu raised his brows. What kind of logic was that? But he didn't argue further; despite his size, that guy was kind of intimidating. Small but mighty, as they say.
They came to a group of cherry blossom trees and stopped there.Well, they had no cherry blossoms at this time of year, but instead had already grown leaves. Yuu thought it was just as beautiful.
Taka crossed his arms and stared at the trees. "Our date would've been more romantic if it was a month ago."
Yuu couldn't tell if the man was serious about everything he was saying. That tone could've well been both joking and dead serious, but he guessed it had to be the former. "Your humor is... one of a kind."
The blond glanced at Yuu, then quickly looked away and back at the trees, as if those leaves were somehow really interesting. "Is everything a joke to you?"
"Uh... Excuse me?"
Now Takanori was the one upset. His stance was almost that of a sulking toddler, and it took him a while to say something. "Maybe I want to go on a date."
"You what?"
"I said that maybe I do want to go on a date with you! I think it's cute that you tried to give that girl a rose on the second date and that you dressed up and put so much effort into it, and maybe I liked that you were really nice to me and that y-"
Takanori's rambling was cut off when Yuu took a step towards him and gently grabbed him by the shoulders. The raven's hands slid to his biceps first, then all the way down until their fingers were intertwined. Yuu felt the coldness of Taka's rings against his palms. He'd only noticed them now, and so he also paid attention to the chipped polish on the blond's nails for the first time. "Are you sure you're not the cute one?" he asked.
Taka's eyes almost sparkled when he stared up at him. He was suddenly very quiet, but with an expression like that and his lips slightly parted, Yuu thought he was so pretty. Even that hair started looking cute...
One of Yuu's hands went to the small of Takanori's back. He pulled the blond closer before leaning down and finally pressing his lips to Taka's...
Taka almost tripped while the raven pushed him towards the tree and against the trunk. He was grabbing at everything from Yuu's neck to his tie and jacket and arms, trying to pull him closer... Their kiss grew more passionate as the taller's tongue invaded Taka's mouth, exploring all of it he could reach. Yuu only took a short break to get some air into his lungs when it was getting hard to breathe.
There was a short silence before the taller spoke. "At least you liked my flower."
Then his mouth was on the blond's again, and Takanori was going weaker in the knees than he'd admit. To anyone, ever.
