Chapter Text
Once upon a time long long ago, the Madrigals lived in a beautiful home.
And Alma Madrigal oversaw them all.
They were well off and well respected but they were also well known for being willing to help anyone.
And they did.
And one stormy night, an old beggar woman came to Casita, and offered the Madrigals a single rose in exchange for shelter from the bitter cold.
Of course Alma let her in.
But Dolores...the second oldest Madrigal grandchild didn't trust her.
And she made it known.
But Alma told her to stop being selfish, that they were Madrigals and they helped everyone.
Her brother Camilo told her that she was being ridiculous, how much damage could an old woman do.
Well...
Late that night, Dolores couldn't sleep.
Her guts were screaming at her that she should stop that woman but she didn't know what that woman was doing.
So she left her room.
Only to see the woman robbing them.
Dolores screamed to alert the others and attacked the woman.
But the moment she did the woman's ugliness melted away to reveal an enchantress.
The rest of the familia came running out.
And the woman cast a spell on Dolores, turning her into a hideous beast.
A spell was cast on the rest of the Madrigals and the enchantress left.
As the years passed, the Madrigals were forgotten by the world for the enchantress had erased all memory of them from the minds of the people they loved.
But Pedro, the patriarch of the familia that had died long before Dolores was born, died a martyr's death for his familia, granted a ray of hope in the form of turning that rose into an enchanted rose.
If Dolores could love another and earn their love in return by the time the last petal fell, the spell would be broken.
And if not, she would be doomed to remain a beast for all time.
As the years past, she fell into despair and lost all hope.
For who could ever learn to love a beast?
