Eddie leans forward slightly, closing the scant distance between them. His hand hovers uncertainly over Buck’s on the sheet for a moment before gently covering it. His touch is warm, solid, anchoring against the cold dread swirling inside Buck. The depth of feeling Buck sees there… it bewilders him.
It contradicts everything his spiraling mind is screaming. Defective. Burden. Unloveable. Why? Why does Eddie look at him like that? Why does he care so much? "I’m staying," Eddie repeats, his voice low, thick with emotion. It’s a vow. A promise carved in blood-spilled grass and panic attacks. He leans forward, his gaze unwavering, catching Buck’s eyes and holding them captive. The words are simple, spoken plainly, yet they crackle with profound significance. "I want to stay up with you."
