Work Text:

Shuichi was really struggling to solve his latest case. You see, his problem was that he could understand the culprit’s line of thinking, he could understand what their motive could be. It just didn’t make sense to him. So he knew that he needed help from someone else. Someone who really understood the way that people worked and how they thought. Someone who was an expert in that field.

When he asked his classmates about someone who might be able to help him, none of them really gave him any good answers. They all seemed like they were avoiding something, like there was something they didn’t want to tell him, that was until he asked Kokichi and Miu who both laughed at him before giving him an answer. They said that someone in their class called Korekiyo was an anthropologist but they said he was “a total creepazoid”, what they meant by that.

Shuichi asked his friends if they new anything about this Korekiyo guy and they all gave him similar answers. Kaede said that he was ‘odd’, though it seemed like she was sugar coating things. Maki was very serious about it and said that he should say away from him no matter the cost but Kaito’s warning was worst of all. He said that Kiyo was a creep and freak and a lot of other things, it almost sounded like he was scared of him. So Shuichi left it alone for a while.

But still after a two weeks of not making any progress in the case, Shuichi was growing desperate. He couldn’t really be as bad as what the others said. Maybe they were exaggerating or maybe they were judging a book by its cover but even if they were right, he knew he had to meet Kiyo and ask him for help.

He asked around for where Kiyo was and was pointed in the direction of the school library. As he search around the rows and rows of bookshelves, he suddenly stopped when he saw a tall lone figure standing in the history section. When he saw them, he got a knot in his stomach and a general eerie feeling that hung in the air. If his friends descriptions were right, then this was defiantly Korekiyo.

“Well... I don’t think we’ve really formally met before. My name is Shuichi Saihara. I’m a detective” He explained. Korekiyo turned to face him, his eyes carefully examining the other boy. “My name is Korekiyo Shinguji, but you may call me Kiyo. So, to what do I owe the pleasure of meeting you, detective?” he asked, leaning in closer.

As Shuichi got a closer look at him, he realised he was surprisingly beautiful. Even with the weird leather mask covering half his face, he still had very pretty features. He had narrowed golden eyes like a boa constrictor lined with sharp black eyeliner, smooth clear skin that was as pale as a ghost and his long dark green hair was well groomed and silky. He was far more gorgeous than many girls Shuichi knew.

“Well, are you going to answer me, detective?” He asked. Shuichi snapped back to reality as he was reminded what he came here to do. “Oh, right. You see, I’ve been working on a case recently that I haven’t been able to crack. I think I could really understand the whole thing better if I had someone who knows a lot about humans and how they think” he explained. Kiyo went quiet for a second, thinking over what Shuichi said.

“All right, shall we go somewhere more quiet to discuss the details?” he answered, slotting the book back onto the shelf. “Wait, you really want to help me?” he asked in surprise. He thought it would have taken a lot more convincing.

“Of course, this sounds deeply fascinating to me” he noted, “now shall we exit the library?” Shuichi nodded and began leading Kiyo out into the hallway. “Do you need to check out any books?” he asked, stopping at the front desk. “Oh no, I have enough reading material at home” he reassured and so they walked out.

“So tell me, Shuichi, what exactly does this case entail?” he asked. Shuichi pulled out his notepad as he read over his notes. “Well, a number of girls have been found dead over the past couple of months. They seem to have been murdered by rope asphyxiation and they have no connection to each other” Shuichi explained. “Kehehe, how fascinating!” Korekiyo laughed.
