To be his equal

Summary:

In which Guts leaves (again) and tries to become Griffith's equal after the rescue mission, only to discover something quite upsetting upon his return.

Chapter 1

Chapter Text

Griffith is in the wagon, wearing his mummy attire and helmet. Casca is outside trying to persuade Guts to leave again and become Griffith's equal.

Casca isn't the sharpest tool in the shed, but neither is Guts, so the best he can come up with is that he will follow Griffith's path and hopes for a similar outcome. First, he goes off and has sex with Charlotte; he thinks that part isn't too bad so far. Then they throw him in the torture chamber, and that's when Guts begins to realize that listening to Casca isn't always the best idea.

There is a new torturer, and Guts isn't impressed because his methods differ significantly from those of his predecessor, making Guts afraid that even a year wouldn't be enough to make him Griffith's equal.

He wants to make special requests, but the torturer is a foreigner who won't understand a word Guts says. By the third week, Guts is so fed up that he wants to quit early, but he has no sword; instead, he is chained to the wall around the clock, making it impossible to escape.

When they finally rescue him after a year, Casca is already married to Griffith and expecting their first child. Guts is furious; he tears off Griffith's Behelit and activates it, calling for an Eclipse.

Notes:

They will name the child after Guts, tho, if they survive the Eclipse, but there is a big chance they won't since the Skull Knight is on holiday.

Chapter Text

"Good Evening, Your Highness. My name is Guts. You might remember me from the rescue mission of Griffith, but if not, let me introduce myself. I am Guts, last name unknown, former Captain of the Raiders of the Band of the Hawk, and currently Deputy General of the same Band. I am taking over for Griffith not just in military affairs but also in other matters."

"Like what?"

"Like... the matters of the heart. Griffith, as You know, is currently in poor physical condition, but he will recover eventually. Meanwhile, he still intends to court Your Highness, and as his substitute, I have to take over his duties in the bedroom as well. It may sound unusual..."

"It does sound unusual!"

"Indeed. However, Griffith, the poor thing, is very vulnerable right now, and he mentioned how much it would help his mental state and overall recovery if he could be intimate with Your Highness again."

"But you just said that he can't."

"Oh, he can!"

"Can he?"

"Well, he can't, but I can, as I am his deputy now."

Charlotte furrowed her brows, then looked Guts over from head to toe, and finally decided that he wasn't so bad after all.
