Work Text:

Yoshiki was so, so warm. That, of course, was something Hikaru was acutely aware of long beforehand. Whenever they'd be hanging out, he could see and feel Yoshiki's dazzling, warm soul that almost seemed to shine brighter whenever they were having fun together.

He was watching a sleeping Yoshiki's chest rise and fall steadily from the futon the other had placed for him. They were having a sleepover at Yoshiki's place as they usually did. Hikaru wasn't able to fall asleep, so he had just decided to watch Yoshiki sleep instead, which was much more entertaining and interesting than sleeping. Sleeping was nice, but it wasn't fun enough to do it every day like humans did. He wondered why they did it so much when they could be doing lots of fun stuff.

Hikaru was getting cold. He shifted a little on the futon, but then had absolutely no hesitation in climbing on Yoshiki's bed and curling up right next to the sleeping boy. Immediately, he could feel the warmth of Yoshiki's soul. He scooted closer to him, wanting to bathe in its comforting embrace, to greedily soak it all up. Surprisingly, Yoshiki was still asleep, and Hikaru saw that as an invitation. He swung an arm over his waist and rested his cheek against his chest. So warm… Hikaru felt like his insides were melting. Yoshiki's soul was shining so brightly, he was almost incandescent with it. It felt like the gentlest, comfiest hug to ever exist.

He wanted his soul, of course he did. Even now, his instincts were just telling him to swallow Yoshiki whole. But, for some reason, he really didn't want to do that. So instead, he just allowed himself to bask in its light for a little longer. It wasn't nearly as good as how having Yoshiki's soul all to himself would feel, but it was enough to appease him for now.

The next morning, Yoshiki's eyes fluttered open, and he brought a hand up to his face to rub one of them. There was a strange warmth settled on top of him. He glanced down in confusion, only to see a familiar head of fluffy white hair. Instantly, the confusion was replaced by a sweet warmth. He chuckled fondly, lowering the hand rubbing his eye to instead stroke Hikaru's hair.

This wasn't the first time that he had left a futon for Hikaru and woken up to him cuddling him, but he wasn't going to complain. He never would. In fact, he'd wake up to this scene every single day if he could.

Yoshiki glanced up at his open window, letting out a small sigh as he saw two finches perched on a tree branch outside, nuzzling against each other. A black one and a white one.

He had homework to get to, but getting up could wait.
