HAP BIRDAY Z

Summary:

Z’s world is quiet.
Way too quiet.

Work Text:

Tick.. Tock.. Tick.. Tock..

As much as Z wanted a break from the crazy shit that happens in his game, he didn't mean he wanted absolutely nothing to happen. He wasn't even being bothered by Reject or Moe, which was extremely uncommon for them. It was so quiet..

..Too quiet, what the fuck are they up to???

He got up from the couch he was laying on, stretching his entire body in the process, and walked outside of his house. To his surprise, there actually wasn't insane shit going on, which made Z even more concerned as to what the fuck was happening.

Did the entities in his world suddenly vanish? Was he alone? He wouldn't ever admit it, but the thought of Reject and Moe being gone for good put a pit in his stomach. He'd even, begrudgingly, consider them his friends.

He walked around for a while, finally being able to explore the world around him, searching for the two that pissed him off the most. Life was boring without them, they made things actually interesting here. Without their chaos, the world felt... still. Wrong. Too normal for a world that practically ran on bullshit and noise.

"Reject? Moe? Where the hell are you guys??" Z yelled. The fact that he could hear his own thoughts made his skin crawl. The pit in his stomach grew. He wasn't used to the silence — he wasn't even sure he liked it, honestly.

He kicked at the ground a bit, annoyed at how empty the place felt. Every rustle of leaves made him spin around like he was expecting to see Reject suddenly appear behind him or Moe drop from a tree.

Nothing. Just the forest breathing in that eerie, suffocating stillness.

..Until he spotted an odd multi-colored blob in his peripheral vision.

His head swung around, looking through the trees of the forest he found himself in, seeing Moe hiding out in the leaves. He sighed a breath he didn't even know he was holding in.

"Moe, where's Reject? He's never gone for this long," Z asked her, her honking in response, with him somehow understanding her.

"C'mon, Moe, don't hide it from me. I just— wanna make sure he's not destroying shit."

..Well he's not really lying, he's simply just omitting the part where he admits he's worried about the entity. He knows without a doubt that he'd never live that down.

More honking that he's able to decipher for some weird reason. Her tone was weirdly excited, like she was sitting on some grand secret and vibrating with the effort not to explode with it. She was never the best at secrets.

"A surprise??? What, am I going to go back to my house and see it destroyed—"

..Oh fuck, that's probably what's happening, isn't it?

He immediately started booking it back to his house, maybe he could spare what's left of it by the time he gets there. God, why did he ever decide leaving the house alone was a good idea?? He knew damn well that every time he stepped outside for longer than thirty seconds, something catastrophic happened. This was practically his fault at this point.

Seeing the outside of it, it wasn't destructed. He was able to feel a bit of relief at that, but he was terrified of what he'd see inside. If he walked in and the house was even slightly different, he'd lose his mind.

As he walked to enter the home, fear building up in his body, he felt a splash of something before the world went dark for him. What the fuck, did someone just throw a Potion of Blindness at him?!

"Okay, Z, calm down, this is all just a prank.." He whispered to himself to ease his nerves, keeping his back on the door to make sure no one can get to him from behind. For all he knew, Reject was about to try jumpscaring him by screaming into his face or some shit like that because he’s a dick who can’t comprehend when things are funny or terrifying.

As the blinding wore off, he saw...

The entire house decorated, Moe wearing a party hat and blowing a party horn, and Reject just kinda standing there. No head, no hat, no mouth, no horn, makes sense.

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" Reject yelled as Moe honked, confetti suddenly falling from the ceiling. Z's face filled with just pure bewilderment.

The room was absurdly festive, with streamers dangling from the rafters, banners with horribly misspelled messages like "HAP BIRDAY Z," which he chuckled at in his head, and a cake that looked like Moe made it by slamming her face into the frosting repeatedly. Honestly, not the worst cake he'd seen from her.

Moe and Reject kept celebrating, saying happy birthday repeatedly and even lighting candles on the cake, having a great time, as Z processed what was happening.

They planned a surprise birthday party for him. How.. weirdly sweet of Reject specifically, he could see Moe doing this. Reject didn't normally do "nice" things like this. Most of the time he was kicking Z down, actually.

..One problem, though.

"It's not my birthday."

Everything halted. All noises stopped, the candles suddenly burnt out, even the leftover confetti in the air just hovered in place. Z didn't even bother questioning it, at this point.

"Goddamnit, I could have sworn it was today!" Reject yelled in frustration, his abstract body tense with anger. Moe just seemed sad at the party ending so soon, her party horn deflating with a pathetic little wheeze.

The two just started cleaning up, Reject muttering how the party was ruined with Moe making sad honks about wanting the party to last longer.

Z simply sighed, leaving the house. Not his problem, he didn't set up the party! He wasn't dealing with Reject's dramatic meltdown. Not again. He didn’t wanna deal with whatever the fuck Reject was gonna do next. Fuck that.

..Wait, was that hissi—
