“You haven't recommended a romance.”
“Oh – I didn’t know you were interested.” Romance is agonizingly broad as a genre – how the hell is she supposed to know what Minhee would even like? She paints herself bold every day, lips berry-bled and nails coated to match. Her every word is veiled in sticky tartness. Cloying, minxish. But she’s also keen – wickedly so. Would she want speculative romance? Erotic? Contemporary?
Jisu can’t decide – so she starts with the basics.
“I mean, you can try the classics. Pride and Prejudice, Wuthering Heights, or –”
“Not those.” Minhee’s timbre means trouble – sweet and sour. Cherries on her tongue and in her tone.
“Um. Okay. What about Jane Eyre? Or –”
“I want one without men.” Minhee’s gaze drops low, pulls insistently on Jisu’s lips parting in shock. Minhee smiles viciously. “What, have you never read a romance without a man, Jisu?”
