Smoke break

Summary:

“Smoke?” The hero taps the villain on the shoulder, holding up a cigarette, gesturing for him to take it. Why? He doesn’t know. This situation can’t get any weirder than it already has so fuck it.

“No thanks, I quite like my lungs” he responds smugly, not looking back at the hero. An aggressive eye roll was sent chaos's way all the same.
_______

Mysterion and Chaos have a lil chat without bashing each others faces in for once

Notes:

Featuring a slightly not-mentally-sound Kenny who has no idea/is in denial to the fact that he probably needs therapy. So if you enjoy Kenny’s internal suffering then you might like this.

12.01.26: Sorry I keep faffing around, changing and adding stuff to this. The lioness does not concern herself with drafts. And pls can someone telll me how to add photos to this because I’ve tried adding my character design sheets to this but it don’t work

Context:
Everyone thinks that Butters is dead in this universe.

Sorry for spelling/grammar errors and changing tenses. I have no creative writing skills outside of school, full authority from the writer to cringe ur lil hearts out.

Work Text:

Mysterion yawns to himself as strolls across the rooftops of the city. The icy cold air condenses his breath into steam. Despite the nature of this job, he can take time to appreciate the stillness of his surroundings, finding no greater peace than watching as his breath dances elegantly against the moonlight.

The hooded man pauses to stance of the very edge of a building, clearly unconcerned for his safety, he glances down at his watch which read 2pm. He lets out a long sigh.

Tonight had been very quiet, the only sounds that could be heard were the motions of the harsh breeze and the crackle of stones underneath his hard boots. It was needless to say that the hero was board as fuck. He needed to have something to slam his fists into. Kenny may not seem like it— well actually in this get up he totally does.. but that’s beside the point, he had a lot of pent up stress and rage okay? Give him a break. It’s times like this when he’s alone with his own thoughts and no one to listen to which makes him itch for the cool burn of a cigarette.

He slumps down on the edge of the roof, his legs dangling down, casually man spreading as if he was lounging on some park bench and not a 5 story building.

He huffs as he rummages through the fanny pack strapped to his chest, pushing aside loose zip ties and the small first aid kit that Wendy insisted everyone should carry— even though he has never once used it and quite frankly, won’t ever.

He finally finds what he’s searching for. He opens the fresh pack of Marlboro, bringing one to his lips and attempts to light it in between his fingers. Something small and thin like this is rather difficult to hold with these gloves. At least it’s not as hard as it used to be. The unnecessary struggle reminds him of the days when he used to wear a pair of old green gardening gloves he had found in the garage within a box that looked like it hadn’t been opened in 10 years. They weren’t the coolest but they did the job. The rubber coating on the fingers and palms actually proved effective at gripping to pipes and walls. Plus he didn't need to pay for them.

Nothing wrong with saving money when you can— that’s a lesson he learnt way too early on in his life.

He growls to himself as he flicks the lighter with his thumb a number of times but to no avail, glaring at the inanimate object like it insulted his entire bloodline as he clasps the roll in between his teeth and cups his unoccupied hand to shield it from the wind. To Mysterions dismay, his hand does absolutely nothing to stop the flicker from being snuffed out by the wind. He loudly grumbles, lifting his head up towards the sky in frustration. Looks like he’s just going to find lower ground.

                             {….}

After scaling down a water pipe the man trudged along. In search for a good place of refuge in which could accommodate his needs for a smoke. The street is pretty much deserted, spare from the odd passer-by and raccoon rustling through a dumpster in a nearby ally way, this isn’t a surprise considering the time, though he still sticks to the embrace of the shadows from force of habit.

Eventually he takes refuge standing on top of a wall of a that stood behind an old building, doing a good job concealing him from the main street. The whole places neglect is evident from the weeds that emerge from almost every nook and cranny as well as the collage of graffiti that scaled almost ever inch of the brick wall. All that aside- it was rather a decent spot, its fortunate placement on top of a hill provided anyone on top of it an enchanting view of the city skyline.

Perfect. The hero takes a deep breath of cold air, revelling in the satisfaction of his new discovery. It’s peaceful

“The fuck are you doing up there?” says a voice

Never mind.

He flinches like a startled cat, snapping his neck left, right and behind in an effort to scout the culprit. He was very much irritated by the sudden interruption of his peace.

“Oh my goodness, down here fuck ass” the voice jabs again. He looks down. A familiar face stares up at him. Professor chaos, donning goggles on his head that pushed the hair out of his face- making it stick up slightly apart from the few tufts which spilled underneath that rested against his forehead. He had alway though those goggles must be uncomfortable to wear over that eye patch though he never had the energy to comment on it. He was never going to be in the mood to participate in a back and forth concerning this  guys questionable fashion choices.

Upon realising who he was looking at he tenses, freezing like a dear in headlights. Though strangely enough, the blonde who stood below him did not share the same sentiment, lazily reclining with his arms crossed against the wall not at all surprised or startled by the hero’s presence in the slightest. He shows no sign of hostility, staring vehemently at the scenery before them. Mysterion decides to keep his guard up all the same, if you could describe this guy with one word,  it would definitely be ‘unpredictable’. The guy is a fucking pain in the ass to say the least.

“Don’t get your panties in a twist, I’m not gonna fight ya- and might I add I was here first” the blonde says stubbornly.

What in the ever living fuck? Out of all the people in this god damn city, he just happens to run into chaos. Really? This has to be a joke. And why is Chaos acting so casually about it? Now that he’s thinking about it- he’s never once seen the blonde act this normal in his life.

Mysterion relaxes slightly though he doesn’t know why, he should totally be putting cuffs on this guy right now. So why isn’t he? . He gives up on his inquiry and crouches into a frog pose on top of the wall. Staring down at the villain intently, unsure of what to say or do. God this a fucking awkward.

They both are silent as the slight breeze sweeps into their ears. Mysterion can’t help but stare down impatiently at the villain, expecting him to do something. He doesn’t. In fact he’s giving as much attention to the hero as one would give a peice of trash in the sidewalk.

“What’s your deal?” Mysterion grunted in his typical husky voice (that’s totally not put on for show or anything) though it sounded more like some sort of command than a question coming from his mouth. He takes himself aback in surprise. Did he really just ask that and not ‘why the fuck are you standing and doing nothing in a random back alley at 2am?’ In his defence, it was a genuine question. Especially now. Watching this weirdly docile and but textbook creepy behaviour makes him rethink chaos’s overall intentions surrounding his typically schemes of villainy.

A blank expression falls across the aforementioned face as he stares up at the vigilante perched on top of the wall like an alley cat, despite the villains height, he still has to crane his neck in order to make eye contact “The same reason as everyone else I suppose.” He doesn’t seem to mind the unprompted question “Because I enjoy it”, he chirped, leaning his tall frame against the graffiti covered wall, unbothered by the cheap paint chipping off and tarnishing his pristine white lab coat. “What- being batshit crazy and causing chaos is entertaining to you?” The hero scoffed.

“I like inventing, it’s my passion. And besides, I prefer the term ‘being a absolute menace to society’ over anything, thank you very much”

“…”

“What?- Do you not have any hobbies, edgelord?” Chaos said, smirking slyly. Mysterion just sat there, dumbfounded, was it really that simple? Surely not “Seriously?” The villains raised his eyebrows in surprise. Mysterion spluttered “uhh- w- of course I- Yeah!” He said, grimacing coldly, though his face grew hotter. “Like what?” Chaos replied. His tone making it difficult to identify whether he was spouting mockery or genuine curiosity. “Being a hero- obviously” the malefactor continued to grin as Mysterion cringed at his own words, wanting to recoil into himself in embarrassment.

He chuckled as the moonlight bounced off the mischievous twinkle in his bright blue eyes that were borderline creepy if he stared at you for too long. He cooed in a forced nasally voice “I don’t think broodin’ and actin’ all edgy n’ mysterious is a hobby, emo boy” he yanks himself up and places a gloved hand on his hip, extending the other in order to reach up and pinch the moody vigilantes cheek, very much aware of the scowl forming underneath the mask. The hero tried his best not to react to the comment nor the touch, he was thankful that his hood and mask concealed his face. He dreaded to think of the shade of pink that was probably flushed across his face. “It is too! hobbies are supposed to be fun, right?, I find considerable joy in the fact that I can easily beat your ass without even trying” Mysterion spouted back quickly, batting chaos’s hand away.

Now on your average Thursday night, well- now Friday morning since it was long past midnight, chaos would’ve totally said some out of pocket insult and begin to go ham on him with those freaky mutant weapons of his that he seemed to just inconspicuously pull out of his ass at any given moment, but strangely enough, that didn’t happen. Instead he just leaned back with a measly “yeah right”.

Mysterion hesitated, he shouldn’t voice what he’s about to say

“You know- you could do something good” he starts “That power of yours could help this city”

Chaos turns his head to stare at him but he isn’t surprised by the statement, as if he’s heard it before. A childish- almost innocent looking glimmer appears in his eyes but it’s gone before the hero can even register that it was there.

“And why would a waste my efforts on a place that’s done nothing but let me down?” He asks flatly “They can build as many skyscrapers as they want, but that still won’t stop it from being the shitty, little redneck town that it was and still is” he continues, in a monotone that could rival Craig- if you could believe it.

“I’m a child influenced by the shitty adults that were somehow allowed to run this place. I’m a consequence of those who sit back and watch it happen” he says gesturing down to himself as if he had made perfect sense.

Mysterion blinks, not quite sure how to respond to that cryptic message “You’re acting strange”

Chaos rolled his eyes lazily “oh I’m sorry if me standing here doin’ nuthin is such a novelty to you.”

“No- that’s not what I meant, it’s just normally by now you’d be doing some over-the-top insane shit. This isn’t behaviour I usually see from you.” The hero spouts, trying to keep the peace as the villains uncovered eye fixes on him intently.

“Ehh, call it a day off, I guess” he chuckled “Everyone’s gotta have a lil break every now and then.” He winks. “Maybe you should try it some time”

“Crime doesn’t rest”

“and neither do you apparently, do you even go to sleep Count Dracula? I just know you got hella eye bags under there”

Mysterion decides not to indulge in any further bickering and stayed silent, following chaos eyes towards the moon which was ever so slowly making its descent. Both were silent. Not an awkward silence though, it’s peaceful, a weird sense of familiarity between them. The hero reached his gloved hand into his fanny pack that was securely wrapped around his waist, extracting his small pack of cheap cigarettes and a neon green lighter.

“Pussy” the vigilante grunts quietly as he peals off his mask just enough to place the cigarette in between own lips instead, holding up the lighter and clicking it a few times whilst using his other hand the shield it from the gentle breeze.

After a few seconds, it manages to catch alight and the hero’s shoulders relax as he inhales slowly. Finally.

“Call me all you want but you’re forgetting that I only got one shot at this, like everyone else.” chaos says. Mysterion is confused “What.. do you mean?” He replies, cigarette still sitting in between the corner of his lips.

“What I mean is that you treat your limitless amount of lives like you’re in some sort of fucked up video game, Super Mario, you get me?” the villain sighed

The hero freezes

He yanks the cigarette out of his mouth, securing it between his middle and index finger while he clenched his fists defensively.

“You remember?” He says quietly, unsure whether the villain was messing with him or not.

No one has ever remembered his deaths. Not Mysterions, not Kenny’s, especially not Kenny’s. Ever. And oh, it drove him wild, an endless race where he always ends at the starting line no matter how far or fast he runs. Death seemed to have a constant firm grip around him, never fully embracing him but never letting go either like a desperate ex. Mysterions train of thought was broken when chaos speaks again.

“God, no” he snorts. “Then how do you know?” The vigilante says cautiously. The villain turns his gaze back towards Mysterion once again without moving his head this time. “Well you’ve told me several times before, ain’t ya fella?”, really? “And you believed it?” He grunts back in disbelief, this was all new territory to him. Whenever Kenny would mention one of his deaths he’d either receive weird looks of pity like he was a psychiatric patient in a padded room or he’d be laughed at. This guy was weird. “I mean, I don’t think you’d have a reason to lie about it if that’s what you’re implyin’, it would explain quite a lot to be honest. Like how you always manage to escape at the last minute like fucking Houdini and do reckless shit even I would never dream of doing and that’s sayin’ somethin’”. Kenny doesn’t respond, he’s barely listening, his mind going at a mile a minute, too overwhelmed by the revelation to come out with a response. He can feel his stomach flutter as he grins like an idiot to himself, just having to hope that chaos wouldn’t notice.

Someone believes him, for the first time in his life(s) someone believes him. It was either that chaos was extremely naive or extremely stupid. But either way, this guy was certainly the smartest fool he knew.

“Does it hurt?” The blonde asks again snapping the vigilante back into reality.

He looks down at the villain and is faced with a sight he thought would only ever exist in his imagination. Chaos stares up at him in anticipation, eyes fixed on his, his eyebrows furrowing slightly with curiosity and maybe concern.

Mysterion laughs, leaning back placing his arms behind him for support. His laugh is low and gruff, etched with a slight rattle stemming from his smoking habit. Chaos is taken aback, there was no way mysterion- the most scariest and grumpiest hero in this city was showing an emotion other than irritation and displeasure. Should he get a doctor? Wait- no why would he do something nice like that? Ew.

“What?” Chaos snaps defensively, mysterion continues to chuckle “Of course it does you fucking dumbass” he says finally “You seriously think that getting torn in half, suffocated, impaled, crushed and whatever is relaxing?” Chaos frowns up at the hero, crossing his arms “Obviously not, I just thought that- well- you’d kinda get used to it”. The hero finally stops laughing, letting out a big sigh.“Yeah, I suppose I have” he says “but that doesn’t stop it from hurting like a fucking bitch”.

“Then why do you do risky shit all the time when you know that it will hurt?” He seems to be very curious tonight. How annoying.

“Because why not? I’m gonna come back anyway so what’s the fucking point of being afraid” the hero berates.

“That’s fucking stupid” the professor retorts

The hero slowly turns his head, now very much pissed off at this point “Excuse me?” He says in a monotone voice.

“I wouldn’t put so much faith in your immortality, arn’t you afraid that you might not come back?, or that there’s a limit to how many deaths your body can handle or whatever?”

“No” yes

Kenny doesn’t think about the potential possibilities often. Otherwise would’ve definitely been emitted to a psychiatric facility by now, but when he does, it’s normally during one of the slow ones.

Thats when he has time to feel every single agonising sensation charge through his body.

And when everything fades to black, he always sees the same thing.

Deaths face stares at him through the void as it extends one cloaked arm out, reaching for his face. Kenny attempts to move but he’s glued to the spot, he gets this sinking feeling like he’s trapped in quicksand. He’s not in his Mysterion costume anymore, the second personality that he uses as a shield is stripped away along with its fabric vessel. His Mysterion persona allows him to be recognised for his good deeds, he has control when he’s Mysterion.

But here, wherever ‘here’ is, Hell? No. Hell is considerably more pleasant compared to this.

Here, Kenny has no control

He tries to scream; to beg, anything, but when he does there’s nothing stopping the black fog that’s surrounding him from slipping down his throat, replacing the oxygen in his lungs and muffling his fear and panic in the process.

All he can do is stare back helplessly as a he drowns in the void; watching as deaths fleshless hand inches closer and closer. He recoils in disgust at the foul stench of expired food and rotting corpses filling his nostrils as he starts to feel the world spin on its axis. The sensation makes his body tremble like a terrified child on a merry-go-round.

It gets closer. The hand is mer centimetre away from his face. The boys watches in terror as his heart races so fast he can hear it beat in his own ears.

Thu-thump… Thu-thump

He peaks through the gaps in its bony fingers and sees the reapers rickety jaw move up and down as if to speak, though no words come from it.

Thu-thump… Thu-thump

Strangled whispers creep into his ears though nobody is there, they chant in unison with his quickened heartbeat, desperate sounding and haunting, pleading in a forgotten language that he could not understand even if he tried.

Thu-thump… Thu-thump

A cold sensation that trickles its way down his spine makes him wince as if someone had just poured ice down his shirt.

Thu-thump… Thu-thump

Before the tips of its long fingers can invade the flesh of his cheeks his whole head is jerked back by someone, or something. Kenny doesn’t know anymore, he’d rather not think about it. The power of the unknown force causes him to look up into the nothingness his neck making a slight cracking sound before he looses his balance and falls into the nothing. Down, down, down.

It is by then in which he finally yanks himself awake, pulse racing and breathing as if he had just ran a mile. His mattress drenched by cold sweat.

Thu-thump… Thu-thump

But that’s rare.

Most of the time, he perishes on impact or be it shortly after.

When it does come down do it though, he’d typically do anything possible to speed things along. If he has to rip the knife impaling his abdomen to instead plunge it into his own chest to avoid having to face the nightmare that haunts his peace of mind, then that’s just what he’ll do. The thought of those hollow sockets, crooked jaw and daunting whispers made him want to rip his own eyes out.

Thats is why he would avoid large bodies of water at all costs. The vigilante knew how to swim perfectly fine but death always finds a way. When you drown, there is too much time to think but not enough to act

The thought of it reminds him that maybe one day, those hands will get a hold of him before he has a chance to wake up. Or maybe that’s exactly what he wants… at least then he won’t have to live in this endless cycle anymore. Kenny wasn’t sure of anything anymore.

“Hey, zombie. You with me?” A voice says, reaching up and waving a gloved hand in front of the hero’s face, snapping Mysterion out of his trance once again. “Goodness, and ya think I’m the one actin’ weird today?” He asked. Taking a step back, squinting his eyes as if you was trying to pierce through to the back of Kenny’s head by shear power of will, observing the man in front of him as if he was bacteria under a microscope. “You’re brooding more than your standard amount today” he informs, flatly “and you havin’t tried to arrest me yet. What’s up with that?”.

He hated to admit it but what the fuck is up with him right now? He’s having a friendly chat with the most wanted illegal weapon’s dealer in the city, he’s literally being handed his own victory. What’s wrong with him?

The hooded man raises his cigarette placing it back to his lips, they both watch the glow of the stub flicker against the moonlight as he inhales. There’s something odly calming watching the smoke sway around them as he exhales. His companion seems to think so too, watching intently as it wafts up into the air and is swallowed by nothing.

The hero glances down at the villain who’s once again leaned back against the wall but still craning his neck to observe him.

Mysterion smiles, the cigarettes stump planted firmly between his corner of his mouth. “Smoke break” his say plainly through the other side of his closed lips. Like those two words explained everything.

An over-the-top gasp escapes Chaos’s mouth. “Was that a smile I just saw? I didn’t know you could do that” he says in exaggerated disbelief, snickering as soon as the all too familiar frown reappears.

The villain turns his head back toward the moon, chuckling “I thought you said crime never rests” he says cheekily as he begins to scale the wall, which is easy for him to do thanks to his tall stature. He uses a few bricks that stick out slightly as leverage to heave himself up like he was a rock climber.

“Just taking some advice” he replies as the villain finally wriggles himself up, planting himself a couple of inches away from Mysterion.

And for some reason the hero makes no attempt to retreat or to move away, even though the proximity made his heart skip a beat.

He sees chaos grin under his tufts of hair, the shine in his eyes making themselves know beneath is eyelashes.

Kenny hates the way the sight makes his stomach flutter ever so slightly. He turns his head back toward the city skyline, forcing down whatever emotions the butterflies are sprouting from. His hero persona must maintain its cold and unfeeling attitude at all times. They fall silent, the only sounds that could be heard were distant rumbling of cars driving by below them and the growls and hisses of cats fighting somewhere.

Despite their painfully obvious differences, they’ve always had some sort of strange understanding of one another. Neither of them need to speak to get how the other feeling, it was an oddly comforting dynamic. Though it’s often not that hard to tell what someone is feeling whilst they’re being electrocuted or their face is being smothered by the others fists. But still.

Maybe it’s because the way that chaos carried himself and understood him was uncomfortably familiar, he reminded Kenny of the one person he knew he could never see again. A person he wanted to stop thinking about. Someone who was no longer there but never fully left. Ever so present within dormant memories that had been begrudgingly shoved to the very back of his mind, miserably happy ones that were to painful to recall but even more so to complete erase.

“I guess we better keep what ever this is between us  huh?” Chaos suggests, kicking his legs limply like a small child. Kenny has to turn away in order to demand his heart to return to its usual tempo. Maybe the cold is making him sick. Yeah, that has to be it.

“Good plan” he says slowly, and it was. Needless to say that he was most definitely not in the mood to hear Kyle chew his ear off while Stan nods his head in agreement, fearing that the lecture will somehow be transferred onto the both of them if he doesn’t. Even though, knowing Kyle, it more than likely will anyway.

He hears movement next to him and turns his head back toward chaos.

Chaos cracks his knuckles and begins to push himself onto his feet so that he’s standing on the wall they were both on.

“Well it’s been fun, mystery man but you should probably head back on patrol or whatever you normally do before you get into some deep shit with your other superhero buddies” chaos crouches, spreading his fingers and placing them on the cold bricks. A subtle crackling can be heard as the flickering of energetic blue light is emitted from them. The hero can’t help but stare in awe at the display, admiring the enchanting glow. He’s always been inconspicuously impressed by the villains abilities, but you will never catch him admitting that statement out loud. The blondes whole body turns rigid, looking like a tiger ready to pounce onto its unsuspecting prey.

“Hold up!” What the fuck are you doing Kenny?

“Do you think-“ oh my god Kenny shut your fucking mouth right now, the fuck are you doing?  “- we can do this again?” he spits out finally

Fucking weak dude the hero seriously considers kicking himself in the balls from frustration. Argh just because he reminds you  of- doesn’t mean you should be going all buddy buddy with this electricity wielding manic. God hes reached a new low, and he thought he’d already hit rock bottom.

Chaos head snaps round, wearing an expression of bewilderment which is apparently rare since this guy seems to know a lot of things nowadays (a fact that makes the hero want to eye roll with extreme aggression and sass). But the look is quickly replaced by a smug grin.

“If the time arises” he says simply. He flashes the hero an annoyingly charming smile before there’s a sudden flash of light and sharp cracks and snaps of electricity. Leaving the vigilante blinking rapidly, trying his best to refocus is eyes. When his vision finally comes to all he sees before him are wisps of smoke that the villain left in his wake.

Well that was a very anticlimactic exist for him is all that can come to him at that moment.

The hero remains in the same spot for a while, being left with only the sound of the distant hum and flicker of broken street lamps that the city council still haven’t concerned themselves with repairing. He pounces off the wall like a cat and lands with a soft crunch as the soles of his boots hit the snow.

Everything is still as he pulls his mask back over his mouth and nose so the entirety of his face is now concealed. He takes a moment to glance down at the cigarette between his fingers.

“Oh jeez Kenny, didn’t ya see the poster in health class that says smokins’ really bad for your tummy? I don’t want you to get sick, Ken!”

He lets the roll fall to the ground, landing soundlessly on the gravel. Kenny stares at it, watching the vague flicker and glow of the end as it desperately tries to combat the inevitable to stay alive like the ember of a forgotten memory. His breathing quickens, his fingers clench into fists as he begins to angrily stomp to bring an end to the pathetic sight. His eyes are met with a hot and heavy prickle, making his vision fall into a meaningless blur as he finally ends the pointless endeavour by twisting the sole of his now unlaced combat boots. The frayed ends of the strings become soggy from the snow that’s now been turned to slush.

”Ken, your shoes are untied again! I can double knot them for ya if yuh like, then ya won’t need to worry about trippin or fallin!”

Stop it

He reaches his trembling hand up, slipping it under his hood to run his gloved fingers through his messy; dirty blonde hair, squeezing his eyes shut as he releases a shaky breath in an attempt to calm himself down. Where was the dark and emotionless persona he wore like a second skin?, one he had developed years ago. What the fuck is wrong with me?

{….}

As he swiftly sprints and leaps across roof tops it dawns on him that there was the smallest chance that they could’ve been spotted.

He honestly wanted to punch himself in the nose for being so fucking careless. He was so out of character tonight. He doesn’t do this, Mysterion is infamous for his firm opposition towards stopping for interviews and lack of any clear images of him online, factors that make him more intriguing to eager fans compared to the rest of his colleagues.

The media would have an absolute field day.

Oh well.

It was 2am after all, who the fuck is up at this hour?. He shrugs it off, letting out a big sigh as he feels the icy air caress the uncovered parts of his face.

Once safely returned to the base, he passes the desolate common area and control rooms, slinking his way down the long hallway leading to his room, tiptoeing past all of his colleagues quarters, particularly Kyle’s for obvious reasons. Kenny isn’t exactly keen on receiving a firm wack to the back of the fucking cranium. Again.

He manages to open the door without a noise and stumbles through, taking care to shut it carefully behind him. Just now has he realised how exhausted he was. He slumps onto the bed with about as much grace as a constipated raccoon, just about managing to yank off his boots and clothes.

He growled frustratingly as a struggled to peal off his thermal under layer which clung to his skin like a wet leaf. Once he was down to just his boxers, he could finally stop resisting sleep as he snuggles into his pillows and sheets. His heavy eyelids close and he quickly dozes off, the surreal fantasies of his dreams distract him from the things he had been forced to accept.

{….}

“-NNY, KENNY!”

Why would he ever need an alarm clock when Kenny already has his dear, dear friend Kyle to rudely wrench him away from his peaceful slumber already?

BANG BANG “KENNETH!”

Oh shit. He just got government named, Kyle means business.

Kenny grumbles, his eye remain firmly sealed as he hears his very much pissed off friend bang on his door like a cop with warrant. Maybe if Kenny doesn’t respond, he’ll go away.

He did not go away

The knocker barges through the door, realising he wasn’t going to get a response from the sleepy Kenneth. The look in his eyes is almost a fiery as the colour of his hair which lay in neatly maintained curls on the top of his head. No matter what day it is, Kyle was always going to wake at the butt crack of dawn.

“KENNY, KENNY WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?!!” The red head says as he stomps over to the reclined blonde, grabbing his shoulder and shaking him as if he would start glowing like one of those cheap glow sticks you get at raves. Kenny grumbles in response.

“Go awaaaayyyyy” he says with the same demeanour as a child who refuses to go to school. “Let me get my beauty sleep” he grunts lazily.

“Not until you explain what the fuck I’m looking at right now” huh?

“You’re looking at your very sexy, hard-working friend who just wants to get some fucking sleep, I was patrolling all night” he grunts, shaking Kyle’s hands and flipping himself onto his stomach, burying his face into his plush pillows. The red-heads persistence gets annoying at times. “Oh were you now?” Kyle crys.

“Dude, come on, this is serious” said a more calmer voice. That was Stan, his slightly less dramatic friend. It takes a lot more than Kyle for him to sound that concerned. Okay this might be serious, looks like he’ll have to catch some more zees later.

He grumbles as he rolls back over. Slowly opening his eyes and sitting up slowly, the cold air hitting his shirtless torso. It take his eyes a while to adjust to the harsh glow of the overhead lighting. Once his vision his clear he sees Kyle seathing and fully clothed next to him, in the doorway is Stan, stil in his pyjamas, leaning against the doorframe with his arms crossed. Wearing an expression of concern. Okay what the fuck is happening.

“Whattup” Kenny asks nonchalantly, rubbing his brows in an attempt to soothe the headache that was brought forth by the lighting that should be considered a crime and Kyle’s incessant whining.

Kyle scowls as he says “that’s what I’m asking you!”

“What are you on about Kyle?” Now he really was confused.

His friends glance over at each other, clearly knowing something he didn’t.

“He hasn’t seen it yet” Stan grunts finally.

“Seen what?”

“THIS!” The redhead cry’s, exasperated, shoving his phone towards him so that it’s almost touching Kenny’s nose.

On the phone screan is a poorly pixilated photo, however anyone with a single eye can make out what it depicts.

In front of him is a photo of him and Chaos sitting on the wall. If that’s not worse enough, the angle that it was taken makes them seem tantalising close that they could be touching. Above the image a bold title reads

‘MYSTERIONS NEW VILLIAN LOVER?’

Kenny’s eyes widen, almost enough to pop out his sockets (which had happened before and let him tell you, it’s not a pleasant feeling, -100 out of 10 would not recommend). In his slumber, he’d completely forgotten what went down, well, more like what didn’t go down last night.

What. The. Fuck

“It’s everywhere! Every news outlet is talking about it, you damn idiot, what the fuck were you thinking?” Kyle rants as he paces up and down the width of Kenny’s room, taking no effort to avoid stepping on the discarded uniform that was now scattered across the floor. Hands pulling at his curly hair in frustration.

“Yeah man, what were you even doing with him anyway?, Stan asks, his calmness balancing out the annoyance that was radiating from the red head. “On a date or something?” He chuckles in a weak attempt to lighten the mood. Kyle is not amused.

Kenny’s hearing falters, he blocks out the stream of questions coming from his friend’s mouths. Only one sentence comes to him at that moment.

For fucks sake.
