Work Text:
You’re in your bedroom, getting ready to go to sleep, when the little golden bell by the entrance to your Piltover apartment dings, indicating there is someone at your door. Seeing as it’s already quite late there is really only one person it could be. And surely enough when you go to open the door, you find Jayce standing in front of you. He seems tired, overworked probably, and yet when he sees you his eyes light up and the corner of his mouth pulls up in a soft smile. Before you even get the chance to say anything his arms are around you, embracing you in a tight hug, his face buried in the crook of your neck.
“Hey, are you okay?” Is the first thing you ask, returning his hug though a little worried. It’s not unlike him to show up at your doorstep unannounced at these hours, you had told him he was always welcome, and with how little time you got to spend together, seeing as he was usually busy in the lab, and you with work on the council, you were glad for every extra moment you got.
He lifts his head and loosens his grip on you.
“Yeah, sorry I didn’t mean to scare you I…” he lets out a sigh before he steps in and closes the door behind him. Even though you hadn’t officially moved in together, your place was just as much his, with how much of his free time he spent here.
“Its just been a rough day”
“Should we go sit on the couch? I could make us some tea?” You say, taking his hand in yours and giving him a reassuring smile.
Not long after, you’re sitting on the sofa, Jayce’s head in your lap, two hot mugs of tea on the table. He sighs and closes his eyes as you stroke your fingers through his hair, your other hand holding his.
“Do you want to tell me about your day?”
“Viktor and I had a fight” he says, eyes open now, staring out the wide window, overlooking the city, his thumb stroking the back of your hand absent mindedly,
“Oh” you say in a concerned and surprised tone “was it serious?”
He sighs again, pulling up your hand to his chest now “I didn’t think so. It was this morning, we disagreed on how far we want to take our hextech experiments and it kind of escalated… I’m worried about him. He doesn’t like that, says he doesn’t need my pity.”
You nod, understanding. Viktor could be that way, and Jayce could be a little overly caring sometimes, the two things don’t always go well together. You run your hand through his hair again.
“Give him some time to cool off, this isn’t the first time you two have gotten into a fight, and you know you can never stay mad at each other for long”
Jayce hums in reply, knowing you were right. Objectively the fight hadn’t even been that bad, but Viktor could hold a grudge and once he was in a bad mood it could be hard to get him out of it, and yes, Jayce had the tendency to take things to heart, he couldn’t stand it when someone was upset with him and he was easily hurt.
“We have fought before, yes but… no, and we care about each other a lot, which is exactly why we know what not to say to upset the other, but today we did, we upset each other, and now he’s mad and I’m hurt.” He pauses and huffs a sigh, you hate seeing him this way. In an attempt to provide further comfort, you place both your hands on either side of his face, cupping it, before placing a light kiss on his forehead. Jayce turns his head slightly to look up at you, his eyes soft and loving but tired.
“Maybe you’re both just a bit overworked lately, I mean you have all these deadlines to meet and you spend all day cooped up in that lab, working away. That has to be taking a toll on both of your nerves, plus as much as much as you may love each other it can’t be good to spend all day, every day together, in such an environment. Try remembering what you’re doing all this for, but don’t forget to have fun too.” You say, smiling down at him, he returns your smile, along with a nod, placing his own hand on yours which is still cupping his face, he leans into your touch, turning his head slightly to kiss the inside of your hand.
“You’re right. You’re always right, it’s why I always come to you for advice” He chuckles softly and the sound warms your heart, your happy you could help a bit and you see some of the tension he arrived here with, easing from his body.
“Well I’m glad you came here. Cause I could help but also because I’ve missed you” you say.
He sits up on the couch, facing you. You immediately miss the feeling of his head in your lap, his closeness, but he soon takes both your hands in his meeting your gaze again.
“I’m sorry I’ve been so busy” he says and you shake your head, about to tell him that he shouldn’t be, that of course you understand, that the work he and Viktor were doing was important, but he speaks before you get the chance to say any of this.
“No, I am sorry because I miss you too, every day I miss you.” He pulls your hand up to his mouth again, placing single kisses on each of your fingertips,.
One thing about Jayce Talis was that when he loved you, he’d make sure you knew it, he’d show you in every way he knew how and he’d make sure you never forget it either. He had that look in his eyes now every time they flickered up at you as his trail of soft, attentive kisses moved from your fingers to your wrist; that look, as if you were the only person ever worth his time, as if he’d give you the world if you’d only ask.
After a year of being in a relationship with him, you still felt butterflies when he looked at you like that.
“Let me make it up to you” He says, in a low tone, bringing your hand down and holding it in his. It’s a question, even if he didn’t phrase it like one. He’s waiting on a reply, a sign that you want him to, that you want him too.
“You don’t have to-”
“I want to.”
How could you ever deny him anything when he looked at you that way, when you’ve missed him so. You smile and shift a little closer to him, bringing a hand up to cup his face, before leaning in closer, your faces mere inches apart. “You don’t have anything to make up for. I’m just glad you’re here now” You whisper, your own eyes fixed on his and gosh are they beautiful. Is he.
His gaze only briefly flickers from your eyes to your lips before he closes the small distance and kisses you softly. One hand on your waist now he pulls you in closer, though the kiss is tender, gentle, it’s full of emotion, a response to your statement, he’s glad to be here too, he’s missed you as much as you him. You move your hand from his cheek into his hair and you can’t help but smile into the kiss, which is now growing more passionate, you know it’s his weakness, he hates it when anyone else touches his hair but he practically melts any time your fingers graze his scalp. He pulls away but only to bury his face in the crook of your neck, his arms tightening around you as he inhales a deep breath.
“Why are you smelling me?” You chuckle
“Because you smell good” he mumbles against your skin, placing a kiss to where his lips are on your neck.
“You don’t ever get that?” He asks, now leaving a few more kisses on your skin, you can feel his warm breath when he speaks and it tickles just a bit but it also makes your stomach flutter. You’re still sitting next to each other on the couch, halfway at least, leaning against the backrest with Jayce leaning over you.
“Like sometimes…” he speaks between kisses, now moving across your neck, over your collar bones, making you drop your head back on the couch and your eyes close.
“Sometimes I feel like I just can’t get enough of you, like I have to fill my lungs with your scent, have to be close to you, even when I already am.”
You smile because, yes you absolutely do get it.
“Like no matter how close you are you’re not close enough-”
You suck in a breath when Jayce sucks on your skin, that spot on your neck he knows to be particularly sensitive. “Exactly” he says and you can hear the smile in his voice.
“Can I take this off?” He tugs lightly at the hem of your shirt and you nod, sitting up a bit more to make it easier for him. He pulls the T-shirt up over your head and lets out a breath of admiration once it’s off, taking a moment to just look at you.
“I will never get tired of looking at you” he says, eyes going back to yours. When you smile at him he moves in again now gently guiding you onto your back, you bite your lip looking up at him.
“You can do more than just look, you know.”
You know that you won't always be able to make Jayce forget all his worries so easily, and you do at times worry yourself that he might be growing away from you with the steady developement of Hextech, he is above all a man married to his work. But you do know that you will be there for him as long as he will let you, and you will let him in for as long as he will have you.For now, foe the time being you decide that you will live in the moment, and in this very moment there is nowhere you would rather be than here with him.
