“You don’t need to know right now,” he said, and I felt myself prickle slightly. He kissed my forehead. “Nothing you said frightened me. I… I care about you so much. More than I should right now. And I… Don’t want to care that it’s too much. I don’t want to care at all.”
I nodded, clinging to him as I clung to his words. “Yes,” I breathed. I kissed a big, floppy ear, then nuzzled into him. I couldn’t bring my body close enough to his. It wasn’t physically possible to be that close. I kissed and nibbled and suckled at his throat. “I w… I want to say it.”
“Say it,” he whispered, as if he were a priest giving me permission to sin.
“I love you,” I whimpered, and I felt a wash of sensation throughout myself. “I love you.”
“I love you, too,” he said, barely audible, a question mark at the end.
And it was beautiful to hear.
“I haven’t paid you yet,” he reminded me.
“You have a tab,” I said. “I promise you, I won’t forget a moment of this.”
He gave a soft, beautiful laugh, and he kissed me on the mouth.
