“I'm really sorry.” Jay adds, this time more quietly. “When I skate I don't really hit people, and especially not pretty girls.”
“Wait! That's not what I meant– N-not that you're not pretty but– I should just the fuck up.” She shuts her eyes firmly, feeling her face warm up at every word.
The silence feels so heavy between them. Even the maltease’s barking can't reach Jay's hearing. The rustle of the leaves falling to the floor, the distant laughter of a family, everything fades away.
This is so embarrassing.
But then, the girl laughs, and it sounds like a symphony. Her laugh isn't loud, it's delicate like a soft breeze. It sends shivers down Jay’s spine, and makes a wave of warmth spread in her chest.
“It's okay, you don't have to be nervous. I know it was an accident.” She offers Jay a smile, a genuine one where her eyes form crescents.
“I'm Jungwon.” The girl introduces herself. She bends down and takes the skate from the floor. “And this is yours.”
