Work Text:

“How long are you going to make him wait?”

Tony looked up from where he’d been writing in the sand to find Wong sitting near him, currently in human form. Wong was one of the few—other than the few other non-selkie companions—currently in human skin. The rest of Stephen’s herd were spread along the beach and in the water in seal form.

Stephen had insisted Tony join the herd activity and Tony suspected he had maybe another thirty minutes on the beach until Stephen came to shove him into the water.

His gaze flickered over the seals, until he spotted Stephen in the shallows. Something fond and warm twisted in his chest.

He jerked his gaze away and back to Wong. “Make who wait for what?”

Wong rolled his eyes. “Stephen.” He said Stephen’s name like it was obvious. Which, to be fair, it was. “For marriage.”

Tony held back a groan. “Seriously, Wong? You don’t even like me.” He shouldn’t be trying to encourage Stephen’s determination to marry Tony. “I’m well aware you disapprove of his choice of me.”

Wong didn’t deny it. “Maybe. But I cannot deny you make him happy.” He eyed Tony. “And we’re all rather certain you want to marry him. If we didn’t think that was true, you wouldn’t be here at an herd activity.”

Tony looked away. The fact that he was here, and not just alone with Stephen on his private beach, meant the Ancient One, at the very least, had accepted Stephen’s choice of Tony. More, she expected it to become permanent.

Stephen, Tony knew, was entirely pleased.

In fact, the only thing Stephen seemed displeased about was the fact Tony hadn’t just whisked them off to a marriage bureau, yet.

“He keeps saying he’ll give me his coat once we marry,” Tony said, quietly and Wong froze. “He shouldn’t trust me that much.”

“But he’s choosing to, anyway,” Wong finally said. “Do you plan to be unworthy of it?”

“Of course not,” Tony protested. “That doesn’t mean he’s not an idiot.”

Wong snorted. “I won’t deny that,” he acknowledged, finally. “He’s always been a bit of an idiot about love. And apparently he’s a bit of an idiot about you. So maybe put him out of his misery.”

Tony rolled his eyes. “Looking to help me plan a wedding?”

“If it stops Stephen from moping?” Wong asked. “Absolutely.”
