The Plan

Summary:

It was just like Wong, to tell Tony to marry Stephen and then get all exasperated when Tony decides he's ready to marry Stephen. But hey, at least he's willing to help.

Notes:

Prompt: Okay I thought the selkie one was finished but now I feel like we need to see a glimpse of the proposal? Or maybe the wedding night when Stephen tries to give his pelt to Tony. (I‘ll happily request more selkie parts in the future if you say you potential have more of in it store :3) - Anon

Author's Note: There have been a few series that I have officially closed, but this isn’t one of them. I’m willing to continue playing in this universe. At some point the end of an ‘arc’ might happen, but should that happen, I’m more than willing to keep playing with other elements in the AU! (And in such cases, feel free to request options for something you want to see.)

Work Text:

“You’re not going to propose?” Wong asked, sounding skeptical. “You’re just dragging him to the marriage bureau? How romantic.”

Tony snorted. “Honestly, I think a proposal would offend him. In fact, I think Stephen thinks he’s already proposed.” He really hadn’t.

Wong arched an eyebrow, but didn’t disagree. “But the marriage bureau?”

“Stephen’s getting itchy.” Not so itchy he’d make any sort of ultimatum or anything, but itchy regardless. “We’ve been dating four months. Stephen’s been hinting for three.” It probably wasn’t reasonable or rational. But Tony knew he did love Stephen, and maybe this was fast, but Tony did want it and Stephen was longing for it. Tony’s biggest hesitation was Stephen’s desire to give Tony his coat. Tony didn’t deserve that, but…

Well, they’d discuss that when the time came.

“Anyway,” Tony continued. “You were the one who suggested I not keep him waiting.”

Wong just stared at him, brow furrowed. “How much do you care about planning your wedding?”

Tony arched an eyebrow. “I’m going to a marriage bureau,” he said. “I think it’s pretty clear I don’t care about anything other than marrying him as quickly as possible.”

Wong’s brow furrowed thoughtfully. “Give me two weeks.”

It took Tony a moment to realize what he meant. “I was joking about you helping with the wedding, you know that, right?”

Wong just waved a hand dismissively. “You’re right. Stephen would be delighted with a marriage bureau wedding.” So what was the problem? “But he…” Wong paused. “He’ll never say anything, but Mordo…”

Tony froze. Stephen had talked once, in the dark of the night, about the darkest parts of what Mordo had done to him. How Tony had saved him.

“I don’t know if he told you, but before that curse, Stephen had planned to never give his coat away. Mordo’s curse was a punishment twice-fold. Forcing him to either never shift again or to do something he’d sworn to never do.”

Tony hadn’t quite realized that, not when Stephen had declared the second time they’d met that his coat would end up in Tony’s hands again. It was a rather abrupt change of mind.

“But he wants this,” Wong continued. “Wants you. Planning a simple wedding will be the ultimate sign I will support his happiness, now that he’s found it.”

Well… “All right,” he agreed. Marriage bureau plan officially on hold. “Let’s plan a wedding.”
