Work Header

Centuries with you

Summary:

A low humming sound could be heard across Oakhurst, not that many were there to hear it, a buzz of magic fluttered through the air after centuries of abandonment, and a slight chill nothing extreme but just cold enough for goose bumps to form on the arms, not that many of the residents here needed to keep warm. And finally the grating sound of voices thudding and echoing waking the pair from their almost endless slumber.

Or An Avott starting vamps au where they are soooo in love

Chapter Text

A low humming sound could be heard across Oakhurst, not that many were there to hear it, a buzz of magic fluttered through the air after centuries of abandonment, and a slight chill nothing extreme but just cold enough for goose bumps to form on the arms, not that many of the residents here needed to keep warm. And finally the grating sound of voices thudding and echoing waking the pair from their almost endless slumber.

600 years ago now Avid and Scott had been put to rest by the town, the town they ruled over together hand in hand, the town that they shared so many fond memories over during the peak of their eternal life, yet also the town that seemed less than happy with their ruling. A spell had been chanted and their bodies had been disposed of into the crypt into a coffin and sealed with a spell. Though the pair couldn’t be too mad, while power hungry and slightly overzealous they weren't stupid they knew they would get their comeuppence one day, and spending 600 hundred years cuddled up to the love of your life really isn’t the worst way to spend it.

Yet now for some reason that curse had been broken, and the couple awoke from their slumber, eyes still hazy from sleep and bodies still not caught up with the sudden consciousness. Avid could feel the familiar chill of his lovers body, even after a 600 year snooze he could never forget that, he felt an almost manic giggle try to escape his throat at the thought of being awake again, but his throat was sore from years of neglect and all that came out was a pathetic sort of wheeze. And while Avid felt the familiar chill of his lover, so did Scott the chill paired with the weight he felt on his chest, a feeling so familiar, a feeling he would never forget. He wanted to laugh at the wheeze Avid let out but he knew it would result in the same outcome if he tried.

The pair just laid there in silence for an extended period of time, letting their bodies catch up with the sudden awakeness, letting their eyes finally open and adjust to the world around them. And almost in sync the pair's eyes opened, their first look at the world in 600 was each other, almost poetic it was, the world changing so much overtime yet the first thing they saw was the one constant in their lives. Yet even after all this time they still looked at each other as if they were the most beautiful thing on this godforsaken planet.

“You’re so pretty” Avid muttered out no louder than a whisper not trusting his vocal chords not to fail him again. He looked up at Scott in utter awe as if it was his first time ever seeing him, and as if he fell in love all over again. A grin was spread across his face like Scott was the only thing that mattered. When Scott looked at Avid he was pretty sure a man could drop dead behind him and the man would be none the wiser, he then lifted up his arms slowly and sluggishly and grasped Avid's face in his palms and planted a soft kiss on his lips.

“Hello to you too, My Wilted Flower” That erupted a giggle from Avid, this time a proper giggle, even after centuries together Avid could help but giggle and flounder at any and all attention from Scott.

“Hiii” Avid replied with a grin. But almost instantly the moment was ruined by the sound of loud grating voices piercing through their heads, the same voices that woke them up from their supposed eternal slumber. At the sound Avid curled further into Scott in a fruitless attempt to block the voices, and Scott's grip tightened on Avid's shirt.

After many centuries the sound of more than each other's voice was too much, far too much, the thought of reintegrating themselves into society after so long was a terrifying thought. There was no knowing how much the world outside had changed, no knowing what was left behind. The only familiarity being each other, the one constant, the one thing that could never change, that they wouldn't let change. As a life without each other wasn’t a life worth living.

Ever since the day Scott turned Avid both their lives changed, changed for the better, a lonely man tainted by illness and paranoia and an aristocrat who seemed to have it all. United in love. An unlikely pair, but a pair that fit together oh so well, a pair that would never be seen apart.

“Avid, my love, I think we may have to get up from the crypt. It seems something is up, and I think it would be a good idea to look around. See what we've missed after all these years” Scott said, stroking a hand through Avid's hair. Gently coaxing Avid up and reaching up to remove the lid of the crypt.

Avid slowly got up, however his eyes never left Scott infatuated with every part of him, a sleepy lopsided grin spread across his face. “Anything for you.” He said as he watched Scott leave the coffin and offer him his hand. Eagerly, Avid grabbed it ready to brave the world with the man he loved most in the world.

He just hoped what laid outside wasn’t too horrible.

Chapter Text

Scott and Avid walked out of the Crypt hand in hand bracing themselves for whatever may lay above, however it gave the pair comfort knowing they were still in their house, their castle, they would luckily have that buffer, that one familiarity once they ascend from the crypt. And with that thought the pair continued on their ascent.

When they finally exited they were greeted with the harsh light of the sun, while it didn’t currently burn, it wasn’t particularly pleasant on the skin, and also especially on the eyes, due to vampires eyes being so sensitive being in the sun was really not a very enjoyable experience, but as a level one vampire it was bearable. After their eyes adjusted they were met with an awful, distressing sight.

Their home. Their castle. In ruins.

Practically nothing remained, the walls barely stretched a few feet off the ground, the ceiling was non-existent, and all of the furniture was gone. Well almost all of the furniture, the only thing that remained was the rather large dining table that sat in the center of the main room, the pair guessed it was probably too heavy for the one that decided to ransack their home. The pair just stood there in silence for a good few minutes, the home they had lived in together for centuries, destroyed.

Avid looked up to Scott whose face was stoic as ever but deep beneath everything Avid knew Scott was hurting, especially after living here for so long, longer than Avid had. Avid squeezed Scott's hand gently to try and get him back to earth.

“Ill be sure to kill whoever did this to our castle” Scott spoke with as much poise as he always did, as he turned to face Avid and lifted a hand to Avid's cheek. “And I do hope you will help me with that, my dear.” This caused a giggle to blossom in Avid's throat and a grin to spread across his face. “I thought you would never ask!!”

“Come my love. We must explore. Though, I must admit seeing our home in this state does not give me hope for what we may mind outside.” Scott said while re-intertwining his hand with Avid and leading the smaller male outside towards the bridge. “Lead the way!”

“Oh! Come on!! Can’t we have nice things!!” Scott yelled while staring at the destroyed bridge. “They even got to the bridge! What the hell!!” Avid chimed on while walking closer to the wreck inspecting the damage. “This doesn’t look like regular corrosion. This looks like it was done with gunpowder. I can’t believe they tried to purposefully trap us inside!! We didn’t even do anything that bad!” Avid huffs while continuing to inspect the damage. “I know!! You kill a couple thousand people and all of a sudden you’re the bad guy!”

As Avid walked further along the bridge, a faint cracking sound could be heard, until it wasn't faint anymore and part of the bridge crumbled with a sickening crack. “AVID!!” Scott shouted seconds too late as Avid fell with the rubble from the bridge with a loud squeak. And the one squeak turned to many as Avid, now in bat form, flew sheepishly towards Scott, wobbling slightly from lack of practice, being asleep for 600 years does that to you.

Avid was a rather small, lesser short nosed fruit bat, who could very easily pass for a regular bat if it wasn’t for the glaring purple eyes that reflected any and all light, so grated if it was pitch black or the person was blind he’d be fine.

Avid landed on Scott nestling in his upturned collar, his face resting on Scott's shoulder as he squeaked out an apology. “No need to apologise dear, but do be more careful. You are constantly taunting death. Plus we should be the ones administering death, not almost dying ourselves” Scott relayed to the bat currently curled on his shoulders, and the bat replied with another series of squeaks. “Yes my love, we can look around for our next meal, and I do think it would be beneficial for me to bat as well. It would be rather embarrassing if I fell off the bridge.” Scott smirked and was greeted with a wing to the face. “I’m sorry your highness but you're gonna have to get off of me if i’m also gonna bat” Avid let out a sad squeak but slowly got off of Scott's shoulders, making sure to take as much time as possible just to annoy the man.

One exasperated sigh later and a flurry of bats, Scott, an albino giant golden crowned flying fox who stood out in any crowd of bats especially with his slight blue hue, was hovering in the air with Avid. “Sometimes I question why I married you.” “Cause you love meeeee!!” Avid replied flying circles around Scott, his energy relentless. “Unfortunately I do” Scott said fondly, bumping his and Avid's noses together with a fond click, and Avid responded with the same sound.

“Come on, husband who loves me very much, let's explore!” Avid said cheerily as he sped off. Scott chuckled fondly and followed after Avid.
