called effulgence, you & you & you & i

Summary:

Is love the stated word?
Or is it drawing the cloak from your shoulders and kissing the heel of your foot when you return to a place called “home”?

Work Text:

It troubles you how I write in the margins– quickly, decisively. You harbour within yourself a simmering resentment for the hand from which the die was cast.

A Desert Fox forms a sphere of warmth beneath our many quilts and blankets. You laugh when they cry, and when they fight, your own mouth fights to choose between humour and despair.

After the rain you slip in the mud and swear profusely. You make yourself late to a meeting with your next client, penning a warning for me and secreting it under the front door.

Ozone on your tongue and lightning on your face. When you ask to kiss me, you struggle with a fear of failure and a burning determination.

If I had not entered your life, you would not be here. You would not be anywhere, would you?

You are convinced you are a spider blooming with avarice. Placing your legs like stakes, you pin down the desires of others and exchange them for your own.

Justice will wait, General. It will wait and it will wait and it will wait, the same way that grief remains an unopened lotus in the annals of your head.

The Kamera will immortalise you in ways the winding Scarlet Sands cannot. It knows the stone of you, tracing the contours of the man you every day shall be.

There is a time betwixt perfect sunset and evening when a pinhole in a wall becomes a lens. In the same way, your heart.

Is love the stated word? Or is it drawing the cloak from your shoulders and kissing the heel of your foot when you return to a place called “home”?

Let it be you who casts the first stone to sunder the Withering. Now take that same stone and warm it in the palms of our hands.

Your ears twist this way and that, catching words that should not be said. Even when you do not forget, you forgive, Chief Officer.

When you nail a pointed warning about mushrooms to the face of the next poor fool, hold onto that rage. You have a way of yoking your anger, to deliver you to Grace.

You weave and sew and crochet. Touching your tongue to the corner of your lips, you smile as you mend others’ mistakes.

For you, affection is a comet. It sings and bursts through a stunning, earth-shattering sky.
