Work Text:
Normally, Jasmine Fenton was the most responsible around. It was the case with her family, it was the case in High School and even in college, albeit to a lesser trend. Yet despite this, her friend Tiana convinced her to play the infamous Left-Right Game on their way to Amity Park, even though it is a total waste of gas and money. Not to mention, time investment.
"Tiana, don't you want to see your family?" Jazz asked as took a left turn. "I know you and your dad have your differences, but what about your sister? Didn't your mom return to Amity?"
Tiana waved her off. "I do not plan to see dad. Mom and Paulina have to catch up, so I don't mind wasting time. Now I have a question for you. How come you agreed to this game? You, as a Fenton, should know ghosts are real, so maybe paranormal stuff is real as well?"
"Well, my parents hinted at some possibilities..." Jazz admitted. 'Not to mention what Danny had told me.' "But I doubt something as silly s this game is real." Then, everything became insanely bright for a short while. As the light dimmed, the sky was purple, the plants gray, and the light screamed danger. "Shit, I jinxed it."
Tiana looked around, "If you curse, it must be serious. What now?"
"Maybe we can get out if we play the game again?" Jazz proposed.
"In that case, turn right."
Danny dropped his pen when his Fenton Watch started to ring. "An alarm?" Checking it, he saw it was an emergency signal from Jazz. "Not trackable but I still get a signal that she is alive... Backrooms!" He turned ghost and flew off.
The girls continued to drive for another hour, speeding as they fled from a creature. "Note for self, if something looks human in here, speed away!"
"Goof thing the streets here are rather empty." Tiana added. "What a creep. Literally."
Jazz then drove slower, before stopping.
"Jazz?" Tiana wondered. "Drive!"
"Bad idea..." Jazz pointed to a figure hovering in the air, over the crossing they were intending on passing. The figure was black and white, wore a cape and was buff. "Shit, it is him..."
Tiana took a closer look. "Looks like a ghost. One your family fought?" Jazz nod. The car stopped, allowing Jazz to get a closer look at the ghost. "What, Danny?"
"That is your brother?" Tiana asked shocked. "Wait, Phantom's called Danny, too. My mistake. Yeah, he looks like Phantom."
Whoever he was, the ghost flew lower. "Mortals, I can hear you. In a way, I am Phantom, in a way, I am not. I'm from an alternative timeline." he explained, his low voice giving the young women chills. "But now, I am stuck here and you are stuck with me."
"What is this place?" Tiana muttered.
The ghost shrugged. "This is known by many names. The Other World, the Unworld – which my prison master called it – The Unreal is another name." he explained. "In essence, it is the opposite of your world." He huffed. "Turns out the Ghost Zone isn't the opposite."
"What is your name?" Tiana then asked.
"Tiana, don't-"
Tiana shushed her. "Jazz, I know Phantom's your brother. So he must be Danny of an alternative timeline."
He huffed. "Partly, but I won't call myself Danny."
"Then I call you Dante." Tiana decided, crossing her arms. "How long have you been here? Have you tried to leave?"
"Time doesn't seem to exist here, but it feels like I spend only days here." 'Dante' said. "There are rips in reality, not unlike portals, but they always close when I approach them. This place reacts weirdly to Ecto."
Jazz sighed. "So, we will be stuck here."
"Eh?" Tiana looked to Jazz. "We aren't ghosts, Jazz."
"But we are Amity Parker's, we are ecto contaminated. Especially me." Jazz pointed out. "Not to mention, from what Dante said, it sounds like these rifts are air born. We can't fly."
"Ah, even in this timeline, you are the smartest one around." Dante mused. "This place drains me..." His feet touched the ground and his form shrunk.
Jasmine looked at Dante. She never thought she would see this ghost in such a weak state. "I wonder if the Unworld has these effects on us, too, considering how contaminated we are..."
A portal opened and an Observant popped out. "It would, so let us get you out of here."
"What about our car?" Tiana asked, her arms crossed.
The Observant mumbled, "Humans..." They snapped their fingers and a portal appeared in front of the car. "Jasmine Fenton, your brother is looking for you." They looked to Dante. "You stay here."
Dante growled. "Figured."
The girls got into the car and Jasmine instantly drove though the portal. They were on a country road near Amity Park. Tiana commented, "Poor Dante, he's stuck there."
"Oh, believe me he deserves it." Jasmine said, "If even half of the things Danny told me about that timeline, the killed a lot of people."
"Does that mean your brother is a mass murderer in an alternative timeline?" Tiana inquired.
"Dante is a fusion of Danny and Plasmius." Jazz told her. "It is complicated."
"What about ghosts isn't complicated?" Tiana replied. She looked to the city welcome sign. "Remember our Ghost 101 class in Senior year?"
Jazz shuddered. "So much false information."
