Air Conditioning

Summary:

Saitama doesn’t need to go on some extravagant vacation to enjoy his summer, so as long as he has you and a functioning air conditioner.

Notes:

HELLO EVERYONE! And so we’ve come to the end of this fluffy week! I’m eager for this one-shot because one, it’s Saitama (AND I GOT TO SEE MAKOTO FURUKAWA IN HIS GLORY), and two, this one-shot’s premise was what inspired me to do a full week in dedication to “All We Need!” Thank you all so much for joining me with the fluffiness and I hope to see you next week when things start to get WARM!

I hope you enjoy!

Work Text:

Curtains were kept shut over a glass sliding door to keep the sunlight out. A cup of ice filled with a chilled beverage of choice. The air conditioner used at the lowest temperature and at the highest speed.

These little nuances meant that summer was here at last.

While many rejoiced over their vacations, some were looking to get out of the city (or even the country), others were excited about going to the beach.

Though, from how you knew Saitama to be however, summer meant mosquitoes and sweating profusely in his hero outfit, as the fabric wasn't the most ventilated. If anything, he wished to stay inside and enjoy the cool rush of air from his air conditioner. Though, as per his duties as a hero--and those glorious summer sales--he still ventured outside, either rushing to battle with Genos or casually strolling to the supermarket with you.

It only made returning home all the more rewarding.

Today wasn't much different from the summer days before.

Another villain poking their head out to wreak havoc. Another punch from Saitama to knock them back down from where they came.

It was nearing the late afternoon by now. Genos had gone to the Hero Association to give a full report on their encounter, in addition to attending to other engagements as part of his S-Class ranking.

With his hero suit drenched with sweat, Saitama thought to pass by a vending machine and grab drinks for you, him, and Genos on the way home. Though, right when he was about to slip his yen coins into the slot, he realized that he had tucked away a supermarket flyer in his wallet. Apparently, there was going to be an amazing summer sale going on today at that store, with special discounts on cold drinks.

Saitama knew where he was going to spend his money in that moment.

When he returned home, he had two bags full of drinks, frozen treats, and other goods for the three of you to enjoy. Upon arrival however, he noticed the apartment was dark and cool, with the curtains closed over the sliding door that lead to his little balcony. With the hum of the air conditioner, the chilled breeze that rushed by him felt so wonderful.

He let out a happy sigh as he announced, "I'm home."

Saitama took another step inside and it was then that he realized that the futon was already out, with you sprawled on top of it as you napped. The corners of his lips raised in a small smile while he carefully set down his groceries before approaching you with quiet footsteps. Beside the futon was a glass half-full of ice and your favorite drink. He could feel his chest feel rather tight while watching how serene and at ease you looked as you slept.

It was a reminder of how he would do anything to protect that peaceful expression on your face.

With the air conditioner keeping his tiny apartment at a comfortably cool temperature, Saitama went to put away the groceries, taking the time to quickly down one of his drinks. With a small, refreshed sigh, he reached for his front zipper as he went to the bathroom. Usually on a day like this, he would take his time with an indulgent bath, but today, he decided on a quick rinse as he wanted to do something far more enjoyable.

Now changed into his striped pajamas, Saitama hurriedly tip-toed over to the futon. As to not wake you, he laid down by your side in a slow, careful manner. Though it was clear that you were asleep, he was surprised when you seemed to sub-consciously scoot towards him, as though you were aware that he was finally back home.

He smiled.

Saitama then brought you closer to his chest in a tender embrace. As the air conditioner continued to quietly away, he didn't mind--in fact, he savored--your body heat before he slowly drifted to sleep, enjoying the summer afternoon with you.
