Summary
Henry falls back on to the closed toilet seat, blinking down at the test in disbelief. His heart is beating so hard against his chest that it physically aches. His mouth is dry, teeth grinding together painfully. For some reason, he has to read the result on the test three times before it starts to settle.
And he remembers that night in the dorm bathroom, throwing up and crying and wondering how the hell he was going to do this on his own. He remembers the long nights, dealing with back pain so intense that it brought tears to his eyes, feeling her kick for the first time and having no one to share it with, going through what he now realizes was a bit of a traumatizing birth, all on his own.
It was the hardest thing he’s ever had to do.
