Whenever Roxanne broke out of bloodlust, she’d retreat to Roxy’s Raceway. She would walk or race the length of the raceway until she felt like she could trust herself outside in the pizzaplex.
Her vision was tinted red. She was moving, and she wasn’t sure where. All she knew was the undeniable need for that wonderful smell in the air.
Two hours passed, and Roxy’s claws were still scraping the floor as she ran. She had gotten multiple overheat warnings, but she ignored them. She deserved to shut down. She deserved worse.
The scent of the new daycare attendant’s blood clung to her like death.
However, the sound of Chica’s footsteps snapped her out of it.
“What happened here, Roxy?” Chica asked. She had seen Roxanne like this before, this game of song and dance a common occurrence between the two.
Roxanne didn’t reply, she didn’t even look up, they just kept running themself in the ground.
Roxanne came back to their senses as they were clawing at the daycare’s doors. They looked down at the scratches in horror, then retreated to Roxy Raceway, knowing that Jac would understand.
“I heard the gist of what happened through Sun, you know?” Chica said softly, making Roxanne stiffen and freeze for the first time.
“I’m sorry,” Roxanne mumbled, her ears pinned to her head, almost hidden by her hair.
“Oh, darling,” Chica walked closer to her partner, “I’m not mad. I just want to know what happened.”
Chica’s hands met Roxanne’s, and they finally looked up to meet Chica’s newly turned magenta eyes.
“I-” Roxanne shook her head. “The new daycare attendant, I ran into them.”
“Mhm?” Chica hummed, softly urging Roxanne to continue.
“I- I don’t know what happened,” Roxanne admitted as Chica gently traced the divots in her hands.
“That’s okay,” Chica reassured, “just tell me what you do.”
Roxanne sighed, “I- I ran into them, cornered them. I wasn’t even aware of what I was doing.
“I was being flirty, like usual, and I guess I went too far, and they tried to push me away, but-”
Roxanne didn’t finish.
“Oh, my precious Roxy,” Chica said, clearly reading through the lines. “Would you like a hug?”
Roxanne nodded, and then she was enveloped in the fabric of her girlfriend’s clothes.
“It’s not your fault,” Chica whispered, “we all have different amounts of control. I’m never going to hold this against you.”
“I’m a danger…”
“No, you’re not,” Chica said. “No one here is a danger. Especially you, okay? That’s my partner you’re talking to.”
Roxanne snorted, her voice box crackling softly before shaking her head, “They’ll never trust me.”
“They won’t if you never apologise,” Chica said. “You feel bad, right?”
Roxanne nodded.
“Then apologise,” Chica said, her voice tilting into her “motherly” tone. “Sun would be more than happy to organise something to help you. I can be there with you, too.”
“You will?” Roxanne looked up, they hadn’t even realised how much they had scrunched up until now. Something they did subconsciously when they were scared, to make themself as small as they could.
“What kind of partner would I be if I wasn’t?” Chica asked, a smile on her face.
“You’re the best, Chi.”
“Of course I am. Was there ever any doubt?”
