Chapter Text
It was early afternoon, the rain softly tapping against the living room windows. Bobby had been on shift since late last night, and Athena had missed him. She always slept better when he was right beside her in their bed.
She walked up and down their living room, gently rocking a dozing Zuri in her arms. The four-month-old baby was almost asleep against her shoulder after giving her mother a hard time for the past hour. The four-month sleep regression was no joke, something both Bobby and Athena were only just realizing, now that their once-perfect sleeper had suddenly stopped sleeping through the night.
The sound of keys in the front door made Athena sigh softly. The baby would never go back to sleep if she realized her father was home after his twelve hour shift.
Bobby slipped off his shoes at the door before he moved down into the living room. A smile spread across his face at the sight of his two favorite girls, sunlight spilling through the window like a halo around them.
“Hi, baby.” He said softly, his eyes trained on Athena’s tired face. He could tell Zuri hadn’t made it easy for her today. In two strides, he reached them where they stood in front of the couch, smiling at his wife and kissing her lips. Between them, he heard Zuri let out a happy coo, her smile wide as she lifted her head from her mothers shoulder.
“She is always so happy to see you.” Athena said softly, her hand drifting up and down Zuri’s back. She loved watching the bond between them, Bobby was such a good dad and their daughter loved him so much.
“I am also happy to see you both.” Bobby pressed a kiss to Zuri’s cheek before Athena passed her to his arms.
“Maybe you can get her to sleep, I have been trying for an hour and she’s not having it.” Athena said without any heat in her voice. Sometimes their daughter just preferred her father, and she had learned not to take it personally.
“I am going to try. Maybe we can all take a nap?” He suggested hopefully, pressing another kiss into his daughter's curls. They all were tired and could use some sleep. Zuri nestled against his shoulder, her eyes already drooping.
“I am not saying no to that.” Athena replied, stifling a yawn. And failing. Bobby chuckled, gently steering her toward their bedroom.
A shared family nap sounded like the perfect idea.
