I can sense someone’s feelings. Not much, but I know that there is someone there. Not a human either, because the feelings are too strong to be coming from a human. I look over at Alice, she found me 2 years ago, and since then have I just blindly followed her. She seemed harmless enough when we met the first time, but now I know that she is not. When she is angry, she is really angry, and scary.
- Let us stop here tonight.
- No… Alice, why do we not continue to run a little bit longer. It does not feel right stopping here.
Alice seems confused, and I know that she can not sense what I am sensing right now. The thing is that she can see into the future. A future that has something in store for me and Alice, and that scares me. I am not scared usually but I am right now.
- You do not see anything unusual in the future?
- Why are you even asking that question? Of course not. Nothing unusual at all.
- Are you sure?
- Are you really going to ask me again?
I do not answer that question because I am looking into the forest. I caught the sight of something purple. There should not be anything purple in the forest. Not at all. It looked like a dress too, and there are not any humans close by, because otherwise I would know that. I would smell their blood long away, and Alice would have made me go another way.
Not that I understand why, I have full control over myself, I would never attack a human that has not done anything wrong. I think that she is a little bit too careful with me. Scared of losing me maybe, not that she ever will. She is the other part of my soul, and I would not be able to keep going if I did not have her close… At my side.
- Did you see that?...
- Yes… I saw that about 15 minutes ago too. I think it has to be another vampire, because otherwise there would not be anything like that. She or he, but I am guessing it is a girl, because that looks like a dress, is able to follow us without problem, and we are going too fast for a human to be able to follow us.
- Do you think she is following us?
- Maybe. I really hope not.
- Could it be someone that you knew before, someone that Maria has sent out to get you, and kill you?
- I do not think so Alice. She seems so small. She can not be more than a child.
- You think someone has made an immortal child, and just ignored the consequences.
- No, the child is older than that, she seems to have enough control not to kill everyone, she has followed us for maybe 5 days now. I have felt her presents for at least 5 days. She may have been following us for longer, without me noticing.
- Why did you not tell me! Jasper, what if she is sent by someone to kill us!
- She does not feel like harming us, she is a little scared, and she knows that we are talking about her right now. Let us continue until we are closer to the ocean, there we maybe can swim until she does not find our scents anymore.
- Good idea.
I run faster than most people would say is acceptable, especially while being so close to a human city. Not that there are any vampire cities, that would be cool to see but I know very well that there is not a singular city that is only inhabited by vampires.
Alice is lighter, and smaller than me, so she has it easier to run. Meaning that I am actually slowing her down. It is not usual that I am the one that slows someone down, it is usually the person besides me that slows me down.
We decide to stop after running for a whole day, mostly because Alice has started to get interested in the girl, and I also want to know who she is.
- Hi.
I almost let out a yelp when I hear a child’s voice beside me. I turn around fast, I still have my reflexes left from when I worked with Maria.
- Who are you.
- I am Mallorie. Mallorie Dabria Deville.
I can hear Alice snort, and I am close to doing the same thing. You do not present yourself using your whole name, you are supposed to say your first and last name.
- Who are you?
- I am Jasper, and this is Alice.
- Where are you going?
I can feel that Alice is nervous, so I decide not to tell the young girl where we are going. Then I look closer at the girl… Mallorie’s feelings. She seems innocent but I am not sure about it when I look deeper. She seems weird. She feels like she has something behind what she is feeling. Something behind her words.
- I know where to find food. Well, as long as you do not eat humans. I know where to find fish, big delicious fish.
Alice almost starts laughing as Mallorie says that. Drinking fishblood. I even have some things I can’t do, and one of those things is drinking fishblood. That just sounds disgusting.
- We hunted yesterday, so we do not need to feed in a few days, but if you want to go away and hunt that is alright. We are going to stay here for the night, if some humans happen to come by, do not kill them.
- Why would I kill humans? I am not like my makers. They killed humans for food, well human blood tastes disgusting, so that is good. Do you not think that humans taste disgusting?
I can’t help but feel weirded out. Why does she not like human blood, it tasted good. The problem is that I can feel the human I killed feelings, and that hurts me.
- I am going to feed now. I will be back in maybe an hour, or that depends on how deep I am diving, but say an hour.
I can’t help but stare… That girl is crazy…
