Chapter Text
The campus bustled with people hurrying to their final class of the semester, voices carrying through crowded corridors. Izuku rushed past people, class having started 5 minutes ago. He entered with a stumble, quickly sitting down at his seat. Fortunately, their chemistry professor was late, so he got away with it this time.
Katsuki glared at him as he walked in late, rolling his eyes as he scoffed, “Why the hell are you late, again? We have a practical today, nerd.” Izuku reluctantly sat next to him.
“Yeah, well, does it matter? Professor isn’t even here. Also, I was studying for my final psychology, not that you care,” Izuku uttered, pulling out his notebook from his obnoxiously sunshine coloured bag. He doodled in the corner of the pages as he read his chemistry notes for the eightieth time. Just as Katsuki was about to retaliate with some snarky comment, Professor Snipe hurriedly entered, throwing apologies as he put his briefcase down on his text. Izuku observed the professor as he sat at his computer, unlocking it and putting instructions on the projected screen.
Professor Snipe had paired everyone with a partner, based on many different skill-sets each student obtained. This led to Izuku and Katsuki being paired together to work on their “teamwork” and so Izuku could help the scarlet eyed teen pass Chem.
Instructions:
Get with your lab partner
Create/ experiment with combustion
Worth 20% of final grade
Wear safety glasses and gloves
Izuku wrote the instructions on a page in his notebook, and everyone went off in their pairs. After grabbing a few vials and a Bunsen burner, he set the down on the desk. Izuku fumbled with the gas tap, connecting it to the Bunsen burner and it on the safety flame. He put the vial over the flame in its stand. “So first we-” Izuku started, before getting cut off by Katsuki. “Just shut up for once in your life, or do I need to tape your mouth shut?” Katsuki snapped, putting a vial over the Bunsen burner and turning the roaring blue flame on.
“Kacchan that isn't what we are supposed to be doing!” Izuku sputtered, reaching over to turn the flame back down. Katsuki groaned, rolling his eyes at the freckled boy’s protests. Quickly, the blond grabbed a random glass bottle and poured it into the vial. which was over the flame. Without thinking, Izuku went to grab the vial off the flame, burning his hand in the process, unable to grab it.
“The hell, what are you doing-” Katsuki grumbled, eyes widening as he watched Izuku burn himself. Before he could react, the vial exploded, glass shattering everywhere. Glass sliced through the air, cutting Katsuki’s arm and Izuku’s temple.
“Shit! Gah, what the fuck just happened!” Katsuki yelled, his arms had instinctively shielded his face, eyes peeking out from his arms to see Professor Snipe and the rest of the class glaring at him and the damned nerd a few steps away.
“Bakugo, Midoriya, step out of the class now.” Snipe yelled across the room. Izuku hurried outside of the room, Katsuki begrudgingly following behind. Once they got outside, Izuku turned to Katsuki.
“Are you insane, why the fuck did you put LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) in the vial! What were you thinking?” Izuku snarled, viridian eyes narrowing in frustration. He never snapped for no reason, but on the rare occasion he did, it would be because he was seething.
“I wasn’t thinking because you were being a brat and pissing me off!” Katsuki retorted, leaning back against the wall, holding the cut on his arm.
“Yeah, totally, I was being a brat by breathing too loud cause you told me to shut up!” Izuku spat, ignoring the blood trickling down the side of his head.
Katsuki went to snap back but Professor Snipe trudged into the hallway.
“First. That’s automatically 20% off your final grade. That was unsafe and could’ve seriously injured someone, and worse case it could have exploded the room. Second. Go to the infirmary and get them cuts checked out. Seems bad.” Snipe reprimanded, then glanced at Izuku and Katsuki’s injury with slight concern.
“It was his fault!” Izuku blurted out, pointing at Katsuki.
“You’re the one who distracted me!” Katsuki’s gaze shot daggers at him. As the teens bickered, Snipe groaned and walked back into the classroom. They walked to the infirmary while shooting snide comments at each other. Izuku pushed the door open to the infirmary, going dizzy for a second and stumbling. Katsuki grabbed the back of his shirt so the viridian eyed nerd wouldn’t fall.
Recovery girl waddled towards the odd pair. “What happened to you two? Midoriya, I understand. But I’ve not seen you around here. Your name?” She pointed towards Katsuki.
“Uh, Bakugo Katsuki.” He grumbled, rolling his eyes.
“Got it. Sit down, both of you.” She barked, grabbing antiseptic and two bandages. Recovery girl assessed Izuku first due to the obvious head injury, cleaning it with antiseptic. She plastered a bandage over the cleaned wound and patted it down.
“That's you done.” She turned to Katsuki and took his arm, pulling his sleeve up and dabbing antiseptic on the wound. The explosive teen hissed. “That stings like a bitch-” he groaned. Izuku rolled his eyes at the dramatics, standing up to leave before a wave of dizziness hit him like a ton of bricks.
“Sit down, Midoriya. You’re here for observation for 10 minutes so we know you won’t pass out.” Recovery girl huffed as she bandaged Katsuki’s arm. “You can leave though.” She walked to her computer, typing up the reports on their profiles.
“Whatever.” Katsuki muttered as he stormed out.
