Adam was wide-eyed as he scanned all of the kittens in their cages. Lawrence had finally agreed to adopt a cat after months of Adam begging, so it wasn’t a surprise when Adam ran so fast into the shelter that Lawrence was left far behind.
First he saw a white kitten, which immediately appealed to him. Big blue eyes, adorable little face, this was the one! But then his attention was pulled to another kitten. This one was black, big yellow eyes staring up at Adam as it pawed at the glass.
This repeated several times, Adam’s attention being drawn by kitten after kitten until Lawrence finally caught up.
“Did you decide on one?” Lawrence asked, noticing Adam staring at a specific cat. Adam slowly shook his head. He wanted to adopt all of them! How was he supposed to choose?
“They’re all so cute! I can’t choose one over the others.” Adam had a small pout on his face at this point. He didn’t want to choose! And then, out of nowhere, a small squeak came from the only cage he hadn’t checked. Lawrence was already crouched down looking at it, smiling to himself. Adam walked over, crouching next to Lawrence and peering through the glass.
It was a small, orange kitten. It had green eyes and fluffy fur, which was already adorable enough, but when it stretched, it revealed its hind right paw was missing. Just like Lawrence! Adam gasped, grinning as he realized which kitten he was going to choose.
“It’s like you! C’mon, Larry, we gotta get that one!” Adam quickly clung to Lawrence’s arm, gently shaking him. Lawrence sighed. A three-legged cat would be a bigger responsibility than a fully abled one, but…
“Alright. We’ll get that one.”
