Work Text:

“Alright, the kids are both asleep and we need a new set of bed time stories, because I’ve read them every single book on the shelf and- Angela?”

His wife wasn’t listening. Quite the opposite.

It was the third time this week that Angela was standing in the living room, arms crossed staring out the window. And slowly but surely, Wesley became worried.

“Angela?”, he asked again, coming up behind her and following her gaze onto the brightly decorated neighborhood, not seeing anything eye-catching though. “What are you doing?”

“I’m wondering why our house doesn’t look like that.”, she stated absently minded.

“Like what? Like…”

Wesley’s gaze fell onto the house diagonally opposite to theirs, so excessively wrapped in bright and colorful fairy lights, that Wesley considered calling it in as an epilepsy hazard.

“Like that? Like the Nelson’s?”, he asked, because Angela seriously couldn’t mean that- but she nodded. She really nodded.

“Because Christmas lights are expensive and we don’t want to give the squirrels in the backyard a seizure, do we?”

Wesley didn’t know what exactly he said to cause the reaction but Angela slowly turned her head towards him like a robot. “Well, it’s not like we’re short on money.”, she reminded him like he wasn’t aware but Wesley shook his head.

“No, we’re not but- that doesn’t mean that we should waste it on fairy lights. Also, it‘s the second of December and-”

“But it isn’t a waste though! And what do we have the trust fund for?“, she said, looking at him like it is a valid argument.

“We have the trust fund for our kids.”

“You’re no fun.”

“You know, the more you say that, the less it hurts.”, he sighed, slipping into his shoes.

“I’m gone for three hours. And if I come back tonight to find an unreasonable amount of money to have disappeared from our bank account, there will be no more favors ever.”

It wasn’t meant as a threat and Angela definitely didn’t take it as one, as she merely stood there, looking out the window. A bright grin on her face.

“Now that you told me not to do it, I kinda wanna do it even more.”

“Angela. I love you, but don’t you dare.”, Wesley pleaded as he moved in to press a gentle kiss to her cheek, his wife’s gaze following his.

“Let’s say… I’ll do nothing I will regret.”, she smirked and Wesley sighed, heading for the door.

“Love you.”

“Love you too!”, Angela grinned and watched as Wesley left. He'd may or may not regret leaving the house to her that evening...
