Work Text:
The sounds of the clattering and hammering of metal, crackling fire, sizzling water and the clinking of tools had become so familiar that it all sounded like home now. It felt soothing and almost calming, something she could use after the whole saving of Baldur's Gate. It had been almost a year ago, the wounds were healed but it still was fresh in her mind sometimes. Almost a year ago when her and her companions had gone their separate ways. Some went to discover, some to conquer and some decided to settle down. But Octavia had no idea what to do, what did a warlock do without a patron? She had decided to stay in Baldur's Gate a bit longer, to maybe figure out what to do.
But it had been a familiar face that had changed it for her.
"Tavvie, you're miles away again," Dammon called out from his workbench. She looked up at him, a big smile on his face. She caught him like that a lot of the time, stealing glances while he was working. They'd seen each other at the celebration, she'd been so drunk that it required him and Halsin to get her to bed. But the weeks after something had started to change. From running into each other in the Elfsong to him inviting her over for dinner. Somewhere in that she had fallen in love, head over heels. She could help him in his forge and test out his new designs. It was simple, it was nice, it was warm.
"You're doing it again," he laughed while he walked up to her. His arms curling around her waist and his tail wrapping itself around her ankle. He'd been gentle and so patient. Smoothing every wrinkle out of the fabric of her mind, just by being there and caring. Nothing complicated, just them together.
"I was thinking about you if that's any excuse," she replied as his forehead leaned against hers.
"I'll allow it then." His lips found her, pulling her into a kiss as sweet as honey. When they broke apart, she let out a small content sigh.
Her eyes wandered over to one of the windows. The sky was white and small, white flakes fell down from it. She couldn't help but stare as the windowsill became covered in the white dusting. Dammon looked over, also seeing the snow fall down.
"Oh Gods, Tavvie, it's snowing." In an instant she realized that it must have been a while since he saw snow, with Elturel being dragged in Avernus. And did it actually snow there in Elturel? She'd never visited. He laughed, happy and careless. She felt how he gripped her hand, leading her towards the front door. The terrace was started to get covered in white, it almost started looking like a white blanket on the city.
The scars from the battle were all covered by the snow now. The wounds and horrors that had happened covered in the innocent white. Some snowflakes settled on Dammon's hair and were dusted on his shoulder. It almost felt surreal, something so simple that rendered her speechless. Halsin would describe it as the wonders of nature, how balance was being restorted to the city again. The snow cracked underneath her feet when she stepped out a little more, leaving her footprints in the white blanket. She reached out her hand to Dammon who eagerly took it. It almost felt like she was a kid when he twirled her around in the snow. A vibrant laugh coming from deep inside of her, joy that she allowed herself to feel now.
Other people started to stand in the streets as well, kids started to throw the snow at each other. It all felt so real, so alive. The city that had always been home but now it was without the ugly scars from before. They were still there, but covered by something else. Something beautiful.
"Did I ever tell you how lucky I am with you?" she asked. Dammon just smiled, pulling her closer to him. The warmth radiating from his body, his horns slightly resting on her head, it was just love.
"You might have mentioned but I think that I might be luckier to be with the saviour of the Gate," he replied with a laugh.
"I do prefer to call you my Tavvie though. I have to share the saviour but my Tavvie, she's just mine. My sweet love." More snowflakes nestled in their hair, clinging to them. She didn't care, didn't care about the cold. She had all she wanted, right in this moment.
