“I’m so sorry,” Katara said again. Zuko nodded.
“I’m sorry too. And I’m sorry for what I did in Ba Sing Se. You have to know that.” An intensity had entered his expression, a desperation.
“I think I do now.” She inhaled deeply and the corners of her mouth turned upward, her chin rising as her chest lifted. She was feeling a mixture of things… pride, wonder, compassion… love. Love for the twists and turns of destiny which, while often painful, had a way of settling into correctness, into solid ground. Love for the injured Fire Nation boy who crawled his way out of treacherous hell into the shelter of her little family, who looked at her now with the love of a brother. She took his hands and squeezed.
“Zuko,” she said, “Welcome home.”
