Chapter Text
College sucks. Like..Sucks worse than the time when the world was ending, and Will and the Party were almost dying to Vecna 24/7, speaking from experience. He’s busy all the time, and being roommates with Mike, while it started out sounding like a dream, was a Nightmare. Mike isn’t a Bad roommate, not in the slightest. He and Will are like two peas in a pod; they could finish each other's sentences, no problem.
No, Mike is a wonderful roommate, and Will can’t handle it. He had hoped after saving the world and convincing himself his best friend was straight, that the feelings would go away on their own.
They didn’t.
Mike was just as kind and attentive as he was when they were kids. Maybe even more so now. He notices when Will is having a bad day and brings him his favorite food or drink with a VHS tape of one of the Star Wars movies and sits with him to watch it. He cleans up after himself and (occasionally) even makes dinner. Mike has gotten even more perfect since they were kids.
Will was pretty convinced the universe was trying to kill him for the hundredth time. How embarrassing, He spent years of his life fighting monsters, even gaining powers…and he dies to a silly crush on his Straight best friend?? So Will decides to move on. Really move on. And like the universe decided to be on his side today, He sees a cute guy at a cafe near campus. He was just going to get a tea and study for his Fall Finals when he locked eyes with this guy. Tall. Dark brown hair that fell perfectly to frame his face. Green, downturned puppy dog eyes. A Letterman Jacket on that seemed just a bit too tight with A black tee and Boot-cut Jeans to finish the look. He looked…good. The man looked Will over once, his gaze lingering on the David Bowie shirt before he looked back up with a smile. They both look away and go back to their individual tasks, but within minutes, they catch each other looking again.
Eventually, the other man gets tired of playing eye tag, standing, and walking over to Will’s table.
“Hey.” He smiles, looking back down at Will’s David Bowie shirt. “You into Bowie?” *He questions. Will nods, smiling softly. “Yeah, yeah, I do…uhm..You?” The other man nods. “Yeah. yeah, yeah, yeah..I love Bowie, he’s one of my favorite Artists..” They sit in silence for another minute before he speaks again.
“I heard this thing..about..Bowie.” He looks up, clearing his throat and ignoring the rising blush on his cheeks, “That he has this friend…Dorothy..Do you know her..?” Everything goes silent.
Friend of Dorothy….Friend of Dorothy.
Oh!
Friend of Dorothy! Will smiles wider. “Yeah! Dorothy…I know her. I’m…” He sighs and looks straight at the other Man. “Yeah, I’m a friend of hers, too.” They stay looking at one another for a while after that before the other man nods with a smile.
“Cool.”
Will smiles and nods,
“Cool.”

The two talked for nearly two hours after that, getting to know one another. Will finds out that the man’s name is Chase. He plays football for their university, and he’s actually the Quarterback. He likes photography and has the same music taste as Will. “Same as Mike.” Will’s brain supplies. How Helpful. They get along really well, hitting it off immediately. They end up planning a date for Friday night, at a Bowling alley downtown. Everything is going great…until Mike shows up. Will doesn’t think anything of it. Mike knows Will is gay, so seeing him talking with a guy shouldn’t be a problem; he’d probably be happy for him.
He wasn’t.
Mike had walked into the coffee shop after finishing planning a D&D campaign for the party this Friday. He knew Will liked to come here to study, so he decided to come look for him, only to come face to face with Will and…Some guy. Who the hell was this dude, and since when was he a friend of Wills? Mike frowns and waits for Will to notice him, only smiling again when Will does and waves at him.
Mike walks over and stands next to Will, close as always. Too close, according to…well, anyone with eyes. Mike never cared, though. Will was his best friend; sure, their friendship was a little weird, and they were closer than most friends should be, but he never paid it any mind. Mike smiles at the guy, strained and impatient, before turning to Will. “Hey, sorry it took me so long to get here. That campaign was rough to plan out. But now we are all set up for Friday–”
Will freezes up. Friday. The Party’s weekly D&D day..Shit. “Mike, yeah, about that…I don’t think I can make it. I’m sorry, I want to, but I have plans with Chase here, and I don’t wanna cancel. But I’ll be there for the next one, okay?” Will smiles at him hopefully.
Mike stares before nodding, “Yeah..Okay. That’s fine…Anyway, we should head back to the dorm, make dinner.” Mike says expectantly, and Will frowns a bit as well. “Yeah.. I’ll head that way in a bit, just gonna talk with Chase a bit more. He offered to walk me home anyway. I’ll just see you later, yeah?” Will asks with a small, awkward smile. Mike just nods, looking over at Chase with a frown. “Yeah, that’s fine. Just get him home safe.” Mike emphasizes before sending Will one last small smile. He turns around and walks out.
Will turns to Chase with a sheepish smile, rubbing his neck. “Sorry, He worries a lot. We grew up together, and we had a lot happen, so it’s just habit. What were we talking about?” Wil smiles a bit warmer, and Chase smiles too. They pack up and walk out of the Cafe, talking together as they slowly make their way to Will’s dorm. Once they reach it, they stop outside the door, sitting quietly. “You’re a really nice guy…Chase.”
Chase smiles and nods. “So are you, Will. I’m excited for our…Date. It is a date, right? I don’t know if I was super clear in my intentions or anything, but I do want to go on a date with yo–”
Will laughs, nodding. “It’s a date. And I’m excited too. Should we just meet at the bowling alley or-”
“I’ll pick you up.” Chase cuts in with a smile. “...if that’s cool with you, of course.”
Will nods and smiles, “I’d like that. I should head inside now, though. Knowing Mike, he’s probably staring out the peephole, waiting.” Just then, they hear a quiet “shit...” and footsteps pattering away. Will and Chase laugh softly before calming down.
“Goodnight, Chase.” Will says, leaning up and kissing the other man on the cheek before walking up to his door and going inside.
“Goodnight..Will.” Chase says quietly, hand on his cheek where Will kissed.
