Work Text:
Leaned back in his office chair without a care in the world and a bottle of Rosé, Lukey was carefully studying a book, while taking small sips here and there.
He heard padded feet hit the floor, claws clicking against his deep slate flooring. He pretended not to notice, leaning even further into his book to hide the smile he's so bad at containing.
"Hi."
Pili's head popped up, looking up at him over the book he held in his hands. Lukey's smile only grew, having no use for hiding it anymore.
"Hey, Pili."
He discarded the book somewhere to the side, his full attention now on Pili. Pili only giggled when he met his eyes.
"Can you take off your armour? I need to uhm... Check you for corruption again. Make sure you're still clean."
"Really? No ulterior motives I hope, right Mr. Dtowncat?"
Pili chuckles again, grinning as he turns away as if embarrassed.
"No... Just- just take the armour off, man! I need to check!"
Lukey stands up, unbuckling the straps connected to his chestplate.
"Fine, fine. But you better not murder me, alright?"
Slowly, tantalisingly so, he undoths the armour, standing bare before Pili.
"Well? See any purple, doctor?"
Pili shifts around, walking behind him, poking him in some places, Lukey's eyes following him the whole time.
"You're okay! That's good. You can put your armour back on now..."
"Nah, but what if I didn't?"
"You'd die."
"Well not as long as you're here, right?"
Pili blushes a dark magenta, he looks both surprised and proud.
"Yes, Lukey. You're safe as long as I'm here."
"Naww, you're so sweet, Pili."
Lukey takes a swing of his bottle of Rosé, falling back into his chair.
"You fancy a drink?"
Pili sits back down too, his smile all fangs and canines.
"Sure."
Lukey braced himself on the table, before fully just crawling over the table to Pili, settling down on his knees with the Rosé in hand.
"Open your mouth."
"You know you can also just give me the bottle, right?"
"Nah, but this is more fun this way."
"Fine..."
Pili opens his mouth, anticipating the Rosé before it comes. Lukey steadies himself on his shoulder, before waterfalling the bottle down Pili's throat. Lukey's eyes follow the Rosé going down, eyeing his throat as he swallows and licks his lips, some of the Rosé slipping past his mouth and staining his fur a light pink.
"Hell yeah!! Chug! Chug! Chug! Whheeyyy!!"
Giggling, Lukey's head tips over and lands in the crook of Pili's shoulder, the hand that was holding up the now empty Rosé bottle falling limply to his side.
Pili just sighed, doubting how he could love this goober of a man.
"C'mon, you're gonna fall over and split open your skull if you stay up there."
Pili gingerly grabs Lukey by the waist, before picking him up and placing him in his lap. Lukey squirmed a bit before sitting up straight again and slowly leaned his forehead against Pili's, staring into his eyes, and Pili's breath caught in his throat. The torches in the room were all snuffed out, keeping the room dark and moody, only the candle Lukey keeps on his table lighting up the room, it backlit Lukey's face beautifully, cascading into soft shadows across his cheeks and brows, illuminating him like an angel before the gates of heaven. It- He was mesmerising.
"Yer great, you know that, Pili?"
Pili swallowed, this was too much for his poor heart to handle.
"If- if you say so, LukeyTV."
Lukey's soft laugh after makes it that much harder for Pili to hold back from keeping Lukey all to himself forever right then and there.
"I do say so. Yur really cool, Pili... I'm sorry Pangi doesn't think so too. I don't want to pick between you two. You're both really important to me. He's so stupid sometimes..."
"Yeah?"
While talking Lukey's gaze had shifted down, but when Pili spoke again he met his eyes, his full attention on him. A shiver ran down Pili's spine.
"You're like totally in love with me, right?"
"Uh- Wuh- What?"
"Could you never make me choose between you two? I'd be really sad. Thanks."
"Uhm, sure. Anything you want."
Lukey smirked, a funny look crossed his eyes.
"Anything?"
"Anything."
Lukey paused to eye him even more intensely, before muttering the next words in the breathiest whisper he's heard.
"Kill me, Pili."
Pili's heart stopped for the briefest and longest of moments, his breath stuttered.
"I- I can't do that, Lukey. You know I'm a pacifist."
Lukey's deep brown eyes bore into him, taking in every little reaction he has. Pili feels like he's just bacteria in a petridish to Lukey.
Then Lukey smiles, and his eyes soften, and his face wrinkles, and maybe Lukey is the bacteria that Pili's obsessing over, because Pili could only just look at him like this and still die happy. (Maybe even live happy.)
"Not so funny now, is it?"
"Huh?"
"Well, you asked me if I would kill you, so I'm giving you a taste of your own medicine. So, how's it feel, Pili Dtowncat?"
"Bad."
"Naww... Wait, that's so sweet, you like actually don't want me to die!"
"Uh- yeah? Of course I don't! I'd never want you to die, Lukey."
"So you'd want me to live forever?"
A bad feeling stirrs up in Pili's gut. No, no, he would never want that.
"No."
"Oh, alright."
Their talking stills for a moment, silence reigns as they stay still, eye to eye. Then Lukey finds something funny again, chuckling to himself as he stares Pili in the eyes.
"Did you know your eyes are burple?"
"Heh, did you know yours are brown?"
Lukey looked owlishly up at him, blinking so slow you might've thought he was half way asleep.
Then... With such a quiet voice, raw and small, Lukey whispered him a question.
"Do you really have to die, Pili?"
And Pili felt his throat close up. How could he possibly ever answer him, tell him the truth when Lukey looked at him like this, spoke so softly to him? For maybe the first time in his life, Pili was glad that he never died, if only because that's what led him to Lukey right now.
And maybe the universe thought to give him a break for his efforts, because before he could even stammer out any kind of response Lukey had already fallen asleep, jaw slack and drooling in a position that'll surely hurt when he wakes up again.
Pili smiled weakly, already thinking of places to lay Lukey down that are more comfortable than in this chair.
Gods, he's so whipped.
