Shot At The Sun With A Gun

Summary:

It was another day in the Psyche.

The Heart and The Mind were in the kitchen. The Mind was preparing a meal while The Heart was searching for snacks.

The both of them had no idea on what was going to happen.

Or: The Juno Incident but I wrote it.

Notes:

HI.

So this is my first fanfic (hiding my previous history of fanfics that I am not proud of). At least first posted as I have at least 8 others waiting in my docs.

I had been thinking and writing this for a while. Sorry if this sucks. My excuse is 1: I have written most of this at school while actively being overstimulated because of my classmates, and 2: I had no plans while coming into this so at least 90% of it was improvised as I wrote.

I am nervous about posting this here, but I hope you guys enjoy!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Inside the Psyche of The Whole were three beings, The Heart, The Mind and The Soul.

It wasn’t meant to be this way. The three of them were supposed to be one being. Whole.

Yet they weren’t.

It was the same thing every day.

The Heart and The Mind, a part of the same person yet completely different to each other.

The Mind, always so logical and cold. He never sees the value that emotions can bring.

The Heart, always so emotional and violent. He never understands why he needs to get control of his feelings.

Two sides of the same coin. One emotional, one logical. One rational, one irrational.

It was the same thing with them every day. Fight, fight, fight until they couldn’t anymore. Snide remarks, passionate yelling until one of them is on the floor covered in bruises.

Do they not understand that this will one day kill them both?

It was the neverending loop they were in. Both aware yet unable to find it in themself to truly stop.

It was an ordinary day for the trio. The Soul was in his room, just laying on his bed and staring at the ceiling while The Heart and The Mind were in the kitchen. It was a disaster waiting to happen.

The Heart was there to get a snack while The Mind was there to make an actual meal.

The Heart went through the cupboards, trying to find something to binge eat to entertain himself before the numb boredom seeps in again. Eventually he found a bag of lays chips. Salted, not his favourite but would do.

The Mind had been putting oil onto the pan. He was making scrambled eggs, a bowl of egg yolk and egg white scrambled together sat beside the pan. He glanced at The Heart’s direction. “Are you going to eat the whole bag?”

The Moon tensed, he hated that tone the other half had, like he was better than him. “Does it matter?”

“I never said it did.”

“Yeah, but you implied it!” He yelled. “What is wrong with me having a snack?”

The Mind rolled his eyes. “Don’t be so defensive, Heart. It’s your choice.” Typical of the emotional half to have such a reaction to nothing.

“I am NOT being defensive!” The Heart snapped. He placed the bag of chips onto the kitchen counter. “You always act like you’re so better than me while you’re not!”

The Sun side sighed, he could already tell this was going to turn into either an argument or a fight. He turned down the heat of the stove and moved the pan away. He’d rather not have the house being burnt down due to The Heart’s immaturity.

“I am better than you, Artemis. Unlike you I can handle a small comment without turning emotional.”

The Heart’s wings flared. Why does this stupid robot not understand that being emotional was not something he can just change?! He is the emotional side for Harmonia’s sake! The Mind wasn’t better for simply being more “logical” or whatever. “Just stop! You’re not better than me! What is your fucking problem with me? All I was trying to do was get a snack.”

The argument started due to something meaningless. Like most arguments did in the psyche. A disagreement about something small suddenly escalating into something bigger.

The Mind sighed. It was irritating having to deal with The Heart's emotional outburst. “The problem is you, Heart. You are violent, too emotionally charged, and unable to just let things go. You are destroying all three of us with your self destructive nature. You aren’t helping therefore you are deadweight,” he snapped.

“So now you’re saying that I am useless,” The Heart replied.

The Mind shrugged, a smirk across his face. “If the shoe fits. And I’d say the shoe fits nicely.”

The Heart’s hands clench into fists. “You don’t get to just decide that!” He was so pissed off. “You fucker! I’ll beat the shit out of you!” He screamed.

“That’s just proving my point!” The Mind raised his voice louder to attempt to get the other half to listen. However it seemed that he was too far gone. “You’re just proving that you’re a violent danger to all of us. Someone just makes you a bit upset and suddenly you are ready to harm them. Bruising me won’t do anything except prove my point.”

“You started this! You just keep insulting me over and over again, provoking me! And then hide behind Soul when you get consequences punched in your face! You are a coward! A coward, Mind!”

“A coward? I get things done. You cry to yourself at night, and pretend to be a victim. Hate to break it to you, but you aren’t.”

“Shut up! Shut up!” The Heart yelled, taking a step forward.

The Mind took a step back in response. The Moon seemed to be at his limit, judging by his expression. He was prepared for the other to attack him. His body tense, ready to fight back if needed.

That was what the Heart was prepared to do, then he paused. Why should he just beat The Mind up? He will just run over to The Soul, show off his bruises and tell him how unstable he was. He would tell him that The Heart was the one that started the fight, that he was all to blame. Conveniently forgetting to mention the insulting remarks and smug words. Then The Heart would be punished for just reacting.

The Heart reached into his pocket. He could end this, he could end this right now. Sure the loop would start and then they’d have to do all of this over again, but…

Well, this loop was probably not going to work anyway. What was wrong with pre-maturely ending it?

So without hesitation, he grasped onto the metal object, something he had that not even his thirds knew about, and pulled it out into the open. Revealing a small pistol.

The Mind freezes. He had… admittedly not expected that.

The Heart was always so foolish and irrational, but to think he’d try to kill him? Absurd.

He raised his arms. He could turn this into a positive. If the emotional half shoots, then that would alert The Soul, and in turn alert him to the problem that is The Heart.

If he played this right, he could bait The Heart into shooting, and reveal how dangerous he was. The Mind just had to.. make sure a bullet wouldn’t hit him.

The Heart could do this. He.. He could. “I.. I am sick and tired of you always… making fun of me, berating me, and…” His finger moved to the trigger. “I have the high ground now.”

“Oh, do you now?” The Mind spoke with a steady calm. He just needed to bait him into shooting somewhere that wasn’t him. The Heart was far too emotional to see reason now. “You know this isn’t surprising. Of course The Heart would try to murder me,” he mocked.

The Heart had been expecting something else. Maybe for that emotionless piece of shit robot to finally feel something. Just not this.. Calm. “You– You hypocrite! What do you mean ‘of course'–you constantly talk about your plan to get rid of me!”

“‘Get rid of’ is the key word here. And I have been only planning, you’re actually attempting it. There’s a difference.”

“There is no fucking difference!” He screamed.

The Heart’s eyes start welling up with tears. He wiped them away with the sleeves of his shirt, yet more just came.

The gun was shaky in his grip and he tried his best to still it. Difficult considering how his whole body was shaking.

The Mind took a short step forward. “Weak. You’re the one holding the gun yet you're crying like it’s the opposite,” He said judgementally. He wouldn’t admit it to anyone but himself, but his crying made him feel amused.

“I am–I am not weak, you–” The Heart choked through his words and without noticing, his fists clenched. Including the hand that was holding onto the gun, and including the finger that was hovering over the trigger and then–

BANG!

The Heart instinctively shut his eyes and froze. The gunshot rang in his ears.

After waiting for the ringing to disappear, or more accurately for it to become more faint, he opened his eyes. Upon opening his eyes he discovered something. The emotional half hadn’t shot The Mind, he had shot the window behind him.

The Heart hadn’t even heard the glass shatter.

The Mind had his eyes shut, that much could The Heart see through the tears which he wiped away. A few seconds after he did, the logical side’s eyes opened aswell. In his eyes there was visible a bit of surprise, just a hint of fear and..

And victory.

“I–I–”

He stammered. He pulled the trigger again, yet he couldn’t escape the guilt by just shooting The Mind again as there were no more bullets. Did he really just do that? Now dawning on him was the realization of what he had just done.

He dropped the gun.

“I didn’t mean–oh god..!”

Was he really that better than The Mind?

Heavy and frantic footsteps could be heard and The Heart’s blood froze. The Soul is coming.

Of course he was! The gunshot was so loud it would be impossible to hear. Fear clawed at him. Oh god what was the Soul going to say–more like what was he going to do.

The Soul came bursting into the kitchen holding his trident. Overlooking the situation the sight he saw was this: The Heart looking frantic as tears spilled from his eyes. Unable to stand still as his fingers scratched his thumb repeatedly. A gun laid next to him on the floor.

Meanwhile The Mind stood on the other side of the room. His body was tense, yet slightly shaky for a moment, then still as he tried to regain his composure, then slightly shaky again repeatedly. He was trying to hide his shock at the situation, trying to appear as his cool and logical self again despite it all. The floor was filled with shattered glass behind him.

The Soul’s eyes returned to The Heart. He was pissed at what the emotional side tried to do. “What the hell were you doing, Heart?!”

The moon turned his head and stared back at The Soul. He didn’t have to be the emotional side to know that the host was pissed. The trident was beside him and The Heart couldn’t help but dread what was going to happen.

“S–Soul! I swear I didn’t actually want to–”

“Save it!” The Soul slammed his trident into the ground. The Sound shutting The Heart up instantly. “Maybe The Mind was right about you.”

Now what happened next wasn’t exactly a pretty sight. The Soul had slashed his trident against The Heart’s face, causing blood to spill and The Heart to stumble onto the ground. The he stabbed his wings while on the ground.

The Heart was dragged outside. There outside was a deep pit, one that wasn’t there just a few hours ago, yet appeared as a response to what The Soul wanted. There The Heart was tossed into there.

The Heart laid there the rest of the loop. He couldn’t see, his eyes were too damaged to see through. And in a short burst of madness he had figured that his eyes were beyond repair anyway, so with his nails he had scratched and clawed at them until all that remained were two holes filled with scars, blood and nerves.

The Mind had felt a short burst of satisfaction. Finally The Heart was gone and punished. It should’ve happened a while ago due to how violent he was, but better late than never he supposed. However some doubt gnawed at him, what if this wasn’t the best response? What if The Whole without the emotional half wouldn’t be so great as he anticipated? Maybe The Heart didn’t deserve such harsh punishment..

The Mind pushed away those thoughts, they were ridiculous anyway.

The loop had restarted quickly after that incident as The Heart was left to waste away. Yet instead of gaining his eyes back, in place of his eyes remained pits instead of eyeballs. And no matter how many times everything restarted, he was blind in every reset.

The Heart wore a blindfold due to this. He didn’t want to show what had become of him now. Such beautiful eyes turned to nothing due to a single shot. Oh how he missed having vision..

The Soul had apologized and swore that he would never use such a punishment again, however The Moon couldn’t find it in himself to grant forgiveness.

Everything went even further downhill after that day.

Was it even possible to become whole anymore?

Notes:

So that was something. I tried my hardest to both make The Mind and The Heart assholes yet someone your able to sympathize. I hope I am not making them too OOC by writing them this way.

Is the fic too fast paced? I feel like it is.

But hey I am a bit proud of myself for actually finishing some lol.
