Work Text:

Prian awoke in the middle of the night, a light whistle tearing him out of his dreams. Looking around the room to find the source of the noise, he spotted a strange, white little bird, shining in the soft light of the stars. The animal looked as if it were made of crystal.

Prian gestured to wake Earwen, but realised she no longer was besides him. The bird then took flight, leaving through a window left ajar.

The fire-haired Elf grabbed his vest and quickly slid on his boots before running outside to follow the bird, but made a shocked stop as soon as he stepped past the door. Small white dots were falling down, as if the stars themselves were descending from the sky. Prian reached out with his hand to try to catch the little spots. They felt cold to the touch, and melted instantly to the contact of his warm skin. Snowflakes, he realised. As he’d been cooped up most of his life guarding the Ipnysh Sanctuary, he had never seen such a phenomenon before.

The little crystal bird whistled again to draw back his attention. It flew away from Memoria, the flap of its wings ringing like merry windchimes. Prian stepped forth to follow it, a funny crunching sound accompanying each of his strides. When he looked back, he realised he was leaving footprints behind.

When he left the city, he found the Green Lord, the gigantic tree in the middle of the lake of Gweonid, completely whitened, its leaves covered in a thin layer of snow, gently glistening in the night light. The lake itself was of a much lighter colour than usual, and a slender figure was gracefully dancing on its surface, long blue hair waving in her wake. Prian resumed his running to join her.

When his foot reached the surface of the lake, he slipped and started sliding forward. Prian righted himself up skillfully, huffing a little as the spook wore off his nerves. He flicked his bright red hair back, and looked up at the beautiful Elven maiden in front of him.

Earwen’s giggle was music to his ears. She seemed to be gliding over the ice as if it were her normal way of moving. She took his hands in hers, and showed him how to skate on the icy lake. Her skin felt just as cold as the little snowflakes, and Prian wondered if she had to cool down her body in order to use that ice magic instead of liquid water.

They remained like this for a while, chasing after each other sliding on the icy lake beneath the Green Lord, now turned white in the middle of the night only for the two of them to see.
