   Summary

   Elain Archeron wants to disappear. This life she leads is a lie. She wants to forget and be forgotten. She wants to leave everything behind and lose herself all over again, on her terms this time.

   But she can't, and she knows it. There is nowhere for her to go where she won't be found. No one she knows who can help her.

   So, she stays.

   Eris Vanserra has everything he ever could have wanted. His father is dead. His mother is safe. His brothers leave him the fuck alone, his Court is flourishing under his rule, and his hounds are permitted inside the House.

   But he's bored. He misses it - the scheming and the lying and the thrill of being caught. No amount of illicit affairs with councillors' wives or politicking can scratch that itch.

   So, he quietly gets on with what he's supposed to like he always has and always will.

   The two of them have an argument on a balcony in the Forest House at a party. Everything started there, really.
