Work Text:
Eddie wakes up and he is warmer than usual. When he opens his eyes and sees Buck curled against him with his arms wrapped around him. He brushes the curls off of Buck's forehead and runs his hand through Buck's hair. Buck sighs in his sleep and snuggles closer. “That feels good. Keep doing that.” He mumbles.
“I would, but if I keep doing it you won't want to wake up, and we have to get up.” Eddie says, trying to move out of Buck's grip.
“No stay. You are warm.” Buck says grabbing for Eddie.
“I can't, we have to get up now.” Eddie says.
Buck reaches out and grabs Eddie's hand. “Come on, we don't have to work today. We can cuddle a little longer.” Buck says.
“We might not have to work, but Chris has to go to school.” Eddie says, gently pulling his hand out of Buck's grip.
“We could always let him skip.” Buck says.
“Buck we are not letting Chris skip school, because you want to stay in bed and cuddle. He will be on Christmas break in a couple days anyway, so he doesn't need a day off. Plus we need to go to the store and get some more lights for the outside of the house.” Eddie says.
“Can we also get decorations for the front yard? I have always wanted to decorate a yard for Christmas. I never could when I was growing up, because my parents didn't want to.” Buck says.
“Yes, we can get some other decorations too, but we aren't going overboard.” Eddie says.
Buck wastes no time in getting out of bed. “You should have started with that.” He says, joining Eddie over at the dresser to get his clothes out for the day.
They both finish getting dressed for the day. Eddie is hooking his watch when he feels Buck wrap his arms around his waist and hook his chin over his shoulder. He kisses Eddie's neck. “I love you so much.” He says
Eddie turns to face Buck. “I love you too. I can't believe it has been three months since we got married.” He says, pulling Buck into a kiss.
Buck pulls Eddie closer, deepening the kiss. He slides his hands to Eddie's ass and squeezes it causing Eddie to gasp, and he uses that as his opportunity to shove his tongue in Eddie's mouth. Eddie wraps his arms around Buck's shoulder and plays with the short hairs at the nape of his neck as Buck explores his mouth. Buck breaks the kiss and leans his head down and kisses Eddie's neck. Eddie tilts his head to the side. “We should probably stop. We are going to be late.” Eddie gasps out.
“Do you really want me to stop?” Buck asks, kissing Eddie's neck again.
Eddie swallows hard. “We are going to be late.” He says again.
“That didn't answer my question.” Buck nips at Eddie's neck. “Do you want me to stop?” He says.
“No, but we have to. We can continue this later.” Eddie says kissing Buck lightly one more time before leaving the bedroom to get Chris up for school
While Eddie is waking Chris up, Buck goes into the kitchen to get things around for breakfast. He starts the coffee maker and gets a bowl and cereal out for Chris, and the bagels for him and Eddie. The coffee is just finishing up when Buck hears Eddie come into the kitchen. He pours a cup of coffee for both of them. Eddie gets the creamer out of the fridge and sets it on the counter. Buck hands Eddie a cup of coffee, and then he pours some caramel oat milk creamer in his own coffee.
Buck pops a bagel in the toaster for Eddie. Soon they hear Chris’ crutches coming towards the kitchen. He smiles when he sees them. “Good morning dad. Good morning Buck.” He says.
“Good morning Superman.” They both say.
When Eddie's bagel pops up Buck hands it to Eddie along with the cream cheese. He also gives Chris the milk for his cereal before putting his own bagel in the toaster. When it is ready he takes it over to the table and sits down beside Eddie, and puts cream cheese on it.
After they are done with breakfast they put the dishes in the dishwasher, and grab their stuff and head out the door. They all get into Buck's jeep. Buck drops Chris off at school first.
“Goodbye dad. Goodbye Buck.” Chris says.
“Goodbye Chris, have a good day at school.” Eddie says.
“Goodbye Chris. Have a good day.” Buck says .
After they drop Chris off they head to the store to pick up the extra outside lights they need. When they get to the store Buck parks the jeep and they get out. Buck grabs Eddie’s hand and interlaces their fingers. They walk into the store and grab a cart. Buck lets go of Eddie's hand as Eddie pushes the cart.
They go to where the Christmas decorations are. After looking for a bit they find the lights they are looking for. They put a couple of boxes in the cart. “Now can we look at some other decorations?” Buck asks.
“Yes we can, but remember no going overboard.” Eddie says.
“I won't go overboard. I just want to look at some decorations.” Buck replies.
Buck walks over to look at some of the outside decorations. He can't decide what he wants to get. Some of the stuff is so neat. Buck doesn't think he wants to get any blowups. It seems like everyone gets them. He wants to do something different. Buck sees a couple of decorations he likes. There are different LED light up ones. As well as some wooden ones. Buck even finds a 3-D tree made from lights. He can't decide what he wants to get, because he likes a couple of the light up ones and he definitely likes the 3-D tree. “Eddie, come look at these.” Buck says.
Eddie walks over and Buck shows him the different decorations. “Buck, we don't need all of these.” Eddie says.
“I can't decide what one to get. I like them all. I like the 3-D tree, but I also like a couple of these light up ones. Like these dog ones are so cute, and the reindeer are nice too.” Buck says.
“We can't get all of them. We don't have the room.” Eddie says.
“Can we at least get a couple of them?” Buck asks.
“How many do you mean by a couple? Something tells me that you want more than two of them.” Eddie says.
“Well we have the tree in the front yard we can decorate so I can go without the 3-D tree. Even though I like the reindeer I like the dogs more. I can't decide between the dog with antlers, the one with the sweater, and the dog with the Santa hat. Can we please get all of them?” Buck says giving Eddie a puppy pout.
Eddie knew he was a goner the minute Buck gave him that look. He was never able to tell him no when he gave him that look. “Ok, we can get all three.” Eddie says.
Buck hugs Eddie and gives him a light kiss. “Thank you.” He says, as he puts the three decorations in the cart.
They are heading up to the front when they are stopped by a worker. “I just wanted to say that you guys are still a cute couple. How is your son?” She says.
They both look at her trying to figure out who she is. Then she says, “Oh I am so sorry you probably don't remember me. I was the elf that brought your son out to you the other Christmas at Santa’s house. I told you that you have an adorable son.”
Buck remembers who she is then. He remembers that Christmas and how when she said that he felt warm inside and happy so he didn't correct him. He had never told Eddie about that night, because he didn't want to weird him out. “Yeah, I remember you.” Buck says.
“I just wanted to tell you that. I can tell you two are really in love. I’ll let you get back to your shopping. I need to get back to work anyways.” She says.
After they walk away Eddie asks, “What was she talking about?”
“Do you remember a couple years ago when we took Chris to see Santa?” Buck asks.
“Yeah, and he wanted to go up by himself and then the one elf brought him out to us.” Eddie says.
“Well after you picked Chris up and walked off she told me that we had an adorable son. I didn't know what to say back so I just thanked her and followed after you.” Buck says.
“I don't think I would have known what to say either.” Eddie says.
They make their way up to the register to pay for their items. Once they pay they take everything out to the jeep and get it loaded. Then they head home so they can finish decorating the outside of the house.
When they get home they unload the truck. They set up the three LED light up dogs in the yard. Then they get to work putting the rest of the lights up outside. They already had lights around the porch. Now they wanted to put lights around the windows and along the roof.
Eddie starts hanging the lights around the windows. Buck gets the ladder out and starts hanging the lights from the roof. As he is hanging the lights he feels his foot slip on the ladder. He tries to regain his footing, but he ends up falling. Eddie hears Buck hit the ground and he drops the lights he was hanging and he runs over to him. His heart jumps into his throat. All he can think is please let him be ok. He pulls out his phone and dials 9-1-1 as he checks Buck all over.
“9-1-1 what's your emergency?” The person says and Eddie instantly recognizes it as Maddie. All he can think is of course of all the dispatchers he would have to get Maddie.
Eddie tries to keep his breathing even. He can feel the tears burning his eyes. “I have an adult male 30 years of age. He fell off a ladder and is unconscious.” He says then he gives his address. Eddie knows that if Maddie didn't recognize his voice she would probably know by the address it was him.
“An ambulance is on its way Eddie.” She says.
The ambulance arrives and Eddie thanks Maddie and is about to hang up when she says, “Let me know how he is when you find out.”
“I will Maddie.” Eddie says before hanging up the phone.
The paramedics check Buck out, and then they load him on a gurney to transport him to the hospital. Eddie follows them as they wheel him over to the ambulance. “Can I ride with him please?” Eddie asks.
“Of course you can sir.” The paramedic says.
Eddie climbs into the back of the ambulance. He sits beside Buck and holds his hand. All he keeps thinking is please let him be ok. I can't lose him.
When they get to the hospital they take Buck back in, and Eddie fills out the paperwork. It takes him a while, because his hand keeps shaking. After he gets the paperwork filled out he takes a seat. His leg is bouncing as he waits for any news. He feels someone put a hand on his shoulder and he jumps a bit. When he turns he sees Bobby sitting beside him. “Bobby, how did you know I was here?” He asks.
“Maddie called me and told me what happened. She figured you wouldn't want to be alone right now.” Bobby says.
“I am so scared, Bobby. What if he isn't ok? What if something happens to him? I can't live with him.” Eddie says, tears pooling in his eyes. He quickly brushes them away.
Bobby squeezes his shoulder. “It is going to be ok Eddie. Buck will be ok. He is a fighter.” He says.
“I should probably call Pepa and see if she can pick Chris up from school.” Eddie says, his hands are still shaking as he tries to call her. He finally manages to.
Pepa: Eddito, hi how are you?
Eddie: Not the best right now.
Pepa: What's wrong?
Eddie: I’m at the hospital right now. Buck fell off a ladder while we were hanging Christmas lights.
Pepa: Is Evancito ok?
Eddie: I don't know yet. The doctors haven't come out to talk to me. I will let you know once I know anything. I was calling to see if you can pick Chris up from school for me.
Pepa: Of course I can. Talk to you later, bye.
Eddie: Talk to you later bye.
Not long after Eddie gets off the phone with Pepa a doctor comes out. “Family for Buckley-Diaz.” He says
Eddie and Bobby walk over to him. “Yes, that is my husband.” Eddie says.
“Ok, we are moving him to a private room. We are thinking about keeping him overnight for observation. It will depend on when he wakes up. The scans don't show any brain injuries. We will know more once he wakes up.” The doctor says.
“When can I see him?” Eddie asks.
“We are moving him to a private room. Once he is settled a nurse will come and get you.
Eddie sits down in one of the chairs beside Bobby. They aren't sitting there long before a nurse comes to get them. She leads them. To Buck's room.
When they get inside Buck is still unconscious. Eddie pulls a chair up beside the bed and takes a seat beside the bed. He grabs Buck's hand and interlaces their fingers. “I need you to wake up mi amor (my love). Please open those baby blues.” Eddie says.
Bobby just sits down on the other chair that isn't right beside the bed. Knowing that Eddie needs him to be there, but also giving him privacy.
It is a little while later when Eddie hears a slight groan from Buck and he blinks his eyes open. He turns his head and looks at Eddie. “Eddie, where am I?” He asks.
“You are in the hospital you fell and hit your head. I am so glad you are ok.” Eddie says brushing the curls off Buck's forehead and leaning in for a kiss.
Buck pulls away. “What are you doing?” He asks.
“I was going to give you a kiss.” Eddie says.
“Why?” Buck asks.
“Because that is generally what I like to do with my husband. Especially when I am relieved to see that he is ok.” Eddie says.
Buck gives him a confused look. “What do you mean husband?” He asks.
“We are married Buck. We have been married for three months.” Eddie says.
“What are you talking about? We're just friends.” Buck asks.
Eddie feels a lump form in his throat, and his eyes burn with unshed tears. “I'll go let them know Buck is up.” Bobby says.
A little bit later Bobby comes back with the doctor. He examines Buck and then asks him a few questions. When he asks Buck for his address Buck gives the address for his loft. Then he asks Buck what year it is. When Buck answers Eddie realizes Buck thinks it is two years ago. Before they got together. After the doctor is done questioning Buck he says, “Mr. Buckley-Diaz it appears you are suffering with a slight case of amnesia.”
Eddie wants to ask the doctor if Buck will get better, but he is too afraid to. He can't bear the thought of Buck not remembering their relationship, and he doesn't want to hear that. Eddie doesn't have to worry about asking though, because Buck does that. “Will I get my memory back?” He asks.
“I can't say for sure. The brain is complex, and every case of amnesia is different. In most cases people get their memory back, but sometimes they don't. We will just have to wait and see.” The doctor says. “Do you have any other questions?” He asks.
“When can I get out of here?” Buck asks.
“Well everything seems to be ok. So I can get the discharge paperwork started. It usually takes half an hour to go through then you can leave. A nurse will be in to go over everything with you.” He says, before leaving.
Eddie bites his lip to keep from making a sound. He swallows hard and takes a deep breath before speaking. “I am going to step out for a bit to call Pepa, and let her know how you are.” He says. Eddie steps out of Buck's room and walks down the hallway to the bathroom which is thankfully a single stall. He goes inside and shuts the door, locking it. Then he stands with his back against the wall and lets the tears fall. After crying for a bit he wipes his eyes, and takes a few deep breaths to calm himself.
Once he is calmed down he pulls out his phone to call Pepa. He dials her number to call her. The phone rings a few times before she picks up.
Pepa: Hello, how is everything?
Eddie: It is good. He is up.
Pepa: That is good. At least he is ok.
Eddie: Yeah (chokes on a sob)
Pepa: Eddito what is it? Is something wrong?
Eddie: Buck has a slight case of amnesia. He doesn't remember the last two years. So he doesn't remember that we are married. He doesn't even remember we dated. He thinks we are just friends.
Pepa: Oh, I am so sorry. I am sure he will remember soon.
Eddie: What if he doesn't Tia? What do I do then? I love him so much, and I don't want to lose him.
Pepa: You will never lose Evancito. He cares too much about you and Chris.
Eddie: I know that, but what if he never remembers our relationship? What if he never remembers how he feels about me?
Pepa: Then you can help him remember. He fell in love with you once, and he can do it again. It will be ok. I am here for you.
Eddie: Thank you Tia.
Pepa: You are welcome. I will keep Chris tonight for you. That way you can focus on helping Evancito get better.
Eddie: I still need to tell Chris.
Pepa: I will handle it. I will just tell him that Buck got hurt, but he will be ok. That he needs time to heal and you need to focus on that tonight. Then I will explain how he has temporarily forgotten a few things.
Eddie: Thank you so much for everything.
Pepa: You are welcome. Now go back to your husband.
Eddie: I will.
After Eddie leaves the room Buck turns to Bobby and says, “Can you tell me more about our relationship? Like how did Eddie and I get together? When did we get married?”
“Buck, you can ask Eddie all of those questions. He will know how to answer them better than I can.” Bobby says.
“I don't want to upset him more. He already seems upset enough. Please tell me what you know. Maybe it will help me remember.” Buck says.
“Ok, I will tell you what I know. I don't know how or when exactly you got together. You told everyone last year in February around Valentine's Day. Everyone was talking about their plans and you and Eddie just blurted out that you guys were going on a date. Then you guys got married on September 25 of this year 2021. You both said you didn't want to waste anymore time..” Bobby says.
“Do you have any pictures of the wedding? Maybe seeing pictures will help me remember.” Buck says.
“Of course I have pictures.” Bobby says, pulling out his phone to show Buck the pictures. He shows him a picture of him and Eddie holding each other and kissing. Then he shows Buck a picture of them with Maddie and baby.
“Who's baby is that?” Buck asks.
"That is Chimney and Maddie's little girl. She was born in January." Bobby says.
“So I also have a niece I forgot about. How could I have forgotten two years of my life?” Buck asks.
“Listen Buck it will be ok. You are going to get your memory back. You will remember everything.” Bobby says.
“I just feel bad for forgetting in the first place.” Buck says.
“It isn't your fault. We will all be here for you. We will help you remember.” Bobby replies.
Eddie walks back into the room, and he walks over the bed to join Buck and Bobby. He has to stop himself from kissing Buck since Buck doesn't remember they are together, so he probably wouldn't be comfortable with it. Eddie sits down beside Buck. “How are you? How does your head feel?” He asks.
“I'm ok, my head hurts a bit, not too bad. I mainly just want to get out of here.” Buck says.
“We should be able to go home soon. Then you can relax and rest. Pepa is going to watch Chris tonight, so I can focus on you.” Eddie says.
Finally the nurse comes in with the discharge papers. She goes over everything with them. Then she reminds Buck to take it easy for a while. After the discharge papers are taken care of they bring a wheel chair for Buck. Bobby goes to get his truck so he can drive them home. Eddie pushes Buck down in the wheelchair and all he can think is that he hopes being home will help Buck remember everything. When they get down to Bobby's truck Eddie helps Buck into the backseat and climbs in beside him.
When they get home Eddie helps Buck inside. He gets Buck situated on the couch. “I'll get you something to eat and drink so you can take something for your head.” Eddie leans down to kiss the top of Buck's head out of habit. Then he thinks that he shouldn't have done that since Buck doesn't remember them being more than friends. “I'm sorry.” He says.
“For what?” Buck asks.
“For kissing your head. I know you aren't used to it right now, because you don't remember we are married.” Eddie says.
Buck grabs his hand. “It is ok Eddie. It feels nice when you hold my hand or kiss me. I might now remember being married to you, but I know I love you.”
Eddie smiles. “I love you too.” He says, and goes into the kitchen to get Buck something to eat. He warms up some leftover soup from last night. Then he gets some water and pain medicine for Buck. He puts it all on a tray and carries it into the living room. Eddie hands the tray to Buck.
“Thank you.” Buck says.
“You're welcome.” Eddie replies.
Then Eddie goes back into the kitchen to grab some soup for himself before rejoining Buck in the living room. After they finish eating Buck turns to Eddie. “Can you tell me some more about our relationship? Please. I asked Bobby earlier, but he said he didn't know the exact details.” He says.
“What did you want to know?” Eddie asks.
“When and how did we get together?” Buck asks.
Eddie blushes. “We got together around Christmas of 2019.” He says.
“Bobby said we got together in February of 2020.” Buck says.
“Nope, we got together in December of 2019 and kept it a secret until February. We wanted some time to ourselves without anyone else knowing we were together.” He says.
“How did we keep it a secret for so long?” Buck asks.
“Not easily. We had a hard time keeping our hands to ourselves.” Eddie replies, blushing worse.
“What made us realize we were in love?” Buck asks.
“We shared a very special kiss. When we kissed for the first time we both knew we were” Eddie replies.
“I wish I could remember it.” Buck says.
Eddie pats his hand. “Don't worry you will.” Eddie says. He looks at his watch and sees that it is getting late. It is nowhere near when they normally go to bed, but he knows Buck needs the sleep.
“It is getting late, and you need your sleep. Let's get you to bed.” Eddie stands up and offers his hand to Buck. “Come on let's get you in bed. You will be able to sleep better there.” He says. Buck takes Eddie's hand and stands up, and follows him to the bedroom. Eddie gets Buck situated and turns to leave. Buck reaches out and grabs Eddie's arm. “Stay please?” He says.
“Are you sure? I could always sleep on the couch.” Eddie says.
“Yes, I don't want to be alone right now, please.” Buck says, pouting.
Eddie thinks how Buck might not remember them being married, but he certainly remembers that Eddie can't resist his pout. “Ok.” Eddie says climbing into bed beside Buck.
It doesn't take long for Buck to fall asleep. While Buck is sleeping Eddie sits and uses the lamp on his nightstand to read his book. Eddie ends up falling asleep too.
When he wakes up the next morning he is very warm. He opens his eyes and sees that Buck had snuggled against him in his sleep, and was clinging to Eddie like a koala bear. Eddie smiled thinking how it was nice that Buck was still clingy even if he didn't remember they were a couple. He runs his hand lightly through Buck's hair. Buck stirs and opens his eyes.
“How do you feel now? Does your head still hurt?” Eddie asks.
“I feel good. My head doesn't really hurt anymore. I just wish I could get my memory back.” Buck replies.
“You will.” Eddie says.
“What if I don't?” Buck asks.
“Then we will make new memories. I will make you fall in love with me again.” Eddie replies.
“I like the sound of that.” Buck says.
“What do you want to do today?” Eddie asks.
“How about we go and visit Maddie? I want to meet my niece. Then we can go and see Pepa and Chris.” Buck says.
“That sounds like a good idea. Let's get cleaned up and changed. Then after breakfast we can go visit people.” Eddie says.
Eddie lets Buck get his shower first. Staying close by in case Buck needs any help. He starts the coffee while Buck is in the shower. While Buck is in the shower Eddie decides to call Pepa and let her know how Buck feels and that they will be coming by later.
Pepa: Hi Eddito, how are you? How is Evancito?
Eddie: We are both good. Buck has remembered a few things.
Pepa: That is good.
Eddie: Yeah. I was calling to let you know that we are going to be coming by later.
Pepa: I know Chris is going to be happy to see both of you.
Eddie: I know Buck will be happy to see him. See you guys later.
Pepa: See you later.
After Buck is done Eddie grabs a quick shower. While Eddie is showering Buck decides to call Maddie. That way he can make sure that she is home.
Maddie: Hey Buck how are you?
Buck: I’m ok.
Maddie: How is your head?
Buck: It doesn't really hurt. I just wish I could get my memory back. I mean how is it possible for me to forget two years of my life.
Maddie: It will be ok. You will remember. All of us will help you.
Buck: Are you home right now?
Maddie: Yeah, why?
Buck: Eddie and I are planning on stopping by later.
Maddie: See you later.
Buck: See you later.
After Eddie is done in the shower they go into the kitchen to have breakfast. As they are eating breakfast Buck can't help but think about how he wishes he could remember more important things. He wants to remember his first kiss with Eddie, and their wedding day. As well as all their other moments.
After they finish breakfast they head out to the truck, and get in. Then Eddie drives over to Maddie and Chimney's place. He parks the truck and they get out. When they get to the front door Buck knocks. After a bit Maddie opens the door. She smiles when she sees Buck, and she hugs him. Maddie pulls Eddie into a hug as well. Then she moves, letting them in. They all take a seat in the living room and talk.
Maddie hears crying and gets up to go and get the baby. After she leaves to get Jee-Yun Eddie can tell Buck is nervous. He grabs Buck's hand and squeezes it. “What's wrong?” Eddie asks.
“What if she doesn't like me? Like what if she can somehow tell that I forgot her?” Buck asks.
“Buck Jee adores you. She isn't going to know the difference.” Eddie replies.
“I just want to start remembering stuff.” Buck says.
“You will Buck. It will just take time. It's only been a day” Eddie says.
Maddie brings Jee out and Buck is disappointed that he doesn't remember her. Buck is just so frustrated that he can't remember the past two years. He wants to remember Jee, and he wants to remember him and Eddie's relationship.
When they get to Pepa's place Eddie parks the truck and they get out. Eddie resists holding Buck's hand, because he doesn't want to make him uncomfortable. They knock on the door and a few minutes later it opens. Pepa smiles when she sees them, and she hugs them both. “I am so happy to see both of you.” She says.
“I am happy to see you too, Pepa.” Buck says.
“I am happy to see you Tia.” Eddie replies.
Pepea moves to let them inside. Buck smiles when he sees Chris. “Superman, how are you?” He asks.
Chris comes over and hugs Buck. “I am good. How are you?” He says.
“I'm doing better.” Buck says.
Chris gives Eddie a hug and tells him hi too. “Did you have a good time spending the night at Tia Pepa's?” He asks.
“Yeah it was nice.” Chris says.
“You guys must stay for supper. I will even make one of Evancito's favorite dishes.” Pepa says.
“That sounds great. We would love to.” Eddie says.
“Perfect, I am so happy to have my three boys here.” Pepa says.
A little while later Pepa heads into the kitchen to start supper. Buck wants to follow her to help, but Eddie stops him. “You know Pepa is not going to let you help in the kitchen. Not only are you a guest, but you are also recovering from an injury.” He says.
“I am still going to try. Maybe it will help me remember.” Buck says.
“You can try, but she is more than likely going to tell you no.” Eddie says.
Buck walks into the kitchen. “Do you need any help Pepa?” He asks.
Pepa turns to face him. “Evancito, you know that I do not let guests help with the cooking. Especially not when they are recovering from an injury. You are more than welcome to keep me company if you want.” She says.
Buck pulls out a chair and sits down. “Pepa I don't know what to do.” He says.
“About what?” Pepa asks.
“The fact that I can't remember my relationship with Eddie. I want to remember it, Pepa.” He says.
“Evancito, it has only been a day. Don't be so hard on yourself.” She replies.
“It's hard. I know Eddie is probably sad that I don't remember. He probably wants to hold hands and kiss, and I don't remember anything.” Buck says.
Pepa pulls him into a hug. “Eddito is not going to be upset if you don't remember. He loves you too much for that. He has been in love with you for so long. The two of you will get through this.” She says.
After he is done talking to Pepa Buck goes back into the living room to sit with Eddie and Chris. Chris is drawing a picture, and Buck joins him. Buck is even able to convince Eddie to draw with them.
When supper was ready Pepa came into the living room to get them. She was about to say something when she saw how much fun they were having, and she couldn't resist taking a picture of the three of them. After taking a couple of pictures Pepa says, “Boys supper is ready.”
It is a couple of days later and Buck still doesn't remember. He is becoming more frustrated, because he wants to remember. He even tried looking at pictures from their wedding to see if it would help and he was disappointed when it didn't. It is Christmas eve and he really wants to remember all about his and Eddie's relationship before Christmas tomorrow.
They are sitting eating breakfast one morning when Chris asks, “Can we go to the Christmas festival today?”
“Sure we can.” Eddie says.
Later at the festival Chris insists that he go and talk to Santa alone. Buck and Eddie sit down by the fountain to wait for him just like the other year. “I remember the first time we did this.” Buck says.
“Me too. I am glad that he still believes. I want him to still believe in the magic of Christmas.” Edde says.
Chris is glad when it is finally his turn to see Santa. He just hopes that Santa can give him his Christmas wish this year. Just like the other years. When it is his turn he sits on Santa’s lap. Santa asks him his name and if he was good that year. Chris answers him. Then Santa asks, “What can I get you for Christmas this year?”
“Can you give Buck his memory back for Christmas? I see how sad dad and him are that he can't remember their relationship. I want them to both be happy for Christmas. So can you please give Buck his memory back, so that dad and him will be happy.” Chris says.
“That is such an unselfish wish. I am sure Buck will get his memory back.” Santa says. He didn't know what else to say. He knew he couldn't promise this kid he would get it back, but he could bear saying no to such an unselfish wish.
Chris smiles. “Thank you Santa I knew you could do it.” After Chris is done an worker helps him out to his dad and Buck.
They both smile when they see him. “What did you ask Santa for?” Eddie asks.
“I can't tell you dad. It's a secret.” Chris says.
They have lunch at the festival, and then walk around a bit more. The last thing they do before leaving the festival is get a family photo in front of the big tree.
After they are done at the festival they go home. They decide to keep with their usual Christmas eve tradition of ordering pizza and watching A Christmas Story. Then before bed they each open one gift. Which is a pair of matching pjs. They put them on and stand in front of the tree to take a picture. After they take the picture it is time for Chris to go to bed. Buck and Eddie tuck him in and read The Night Before Christmas to him.
Once Chris is in bed Eddie goes to the closet to get the gifts out they hid in there for Chris. Buck comes to help. They get all the presents put under the tree. After they get the presents taken care of Eddie heads into the kitchen to take care of the cookies. Buck follows him and that is when he sees that Eddie is standing under the mistletoe. Something about this seems familiar to him. He walks up to him and says, “Eddie look up.”
Eddie looks up and sees the mistletoe. He doesn't know how it got there, because he knows he didn't put it up. “I don't know how that even got there.” Eddie says.
“Well you know the rule about being caught under the mistletoe.” Buck says. He puts a hand on Eddie's cheek and leans in giving him a kiss. The minute their lips touch Buck feels a spark, and all he can think is how he wants to keep kissing Eddie. Then he gets flashes of all these different moments with Eddie. Moments of them holding hands, sharing kisses and whispering I love you to each other.
“Merry Christmas.” Eddie says.
“Merry Christmas baby.” Buck says back.
Eddie's breath catches in his throat. “You called me baby.” He says.
“Of course I did.” Buck says, kissing Eddie again.
“Does this mean you remember?” Eddie asks.
“Yes, I remember. I remember how we got together after a kiss under the mistletoe. That when you kissed me I knew you felt the same way as me. I remember dancing with you in this very kitchen, and if you are ok with it I would love a repeat of that moment. I love you so much.” Buck says.
“I love you too. Of course I will dance with you.” Eddie says, pulling Buck into another kiss.
Buck leans close and whispers, “I even remember the song that we danced to.” He says.
“Don't forget you also sang along.” Eddie says.
“Well I couldn't resist the lyrics fit the situation. How would you feel about a repeat performance?” Buck says.
“I would love to dance with you husband.” Eddie says.
“Then let's dance, husband.” Buck replies.
Buck pulls out his phone and starts the music. They slowly dance around. Buck leans close and sings along. “Kiss me underneath the mistletoe. Show me, baby, that you love me so-oh-oh.”
Eddie kisses Buck again. “I love you so much mi amor (my love).” He says.
“I love you too baby.” Buck says, kissing Eddie.
After they finish dancing they decide to head to bed. They climb into bed and cuddle close to each other. Both of them are so happy that Buck remembers.
They are woken up early the following morning by Chris. He knocks on their door and says, “Dad, Buck wake up. It's Christmas.”
“Ok, we will be there in a minute.” Eddie replies.
They get up and head out to the living room. “Do you want to eat breakfast first or open presents first?” Eddie asks.
“Presents.” Chris says.
Buck and Eddie sit down on the couch. Chris brings them each over a box. “I made you guys something.” He says.
They open their gifts, and see that Chris had made them each a picture frame. In the frame was a picture of the three of them from last Christmas. Then they sit and watch Chris open his presents. After he is all done. Buck and Eddie exchange their gifts.
“Merry Christmas mi amor (my love).” Eddie says, handing Buck his gift.
Buck opens his gift and sees a new cookbook and an apron. “Thank you.” He kisses Eddie. Buck hands Eddie his gift. “Merry Christmas baby.” He says.
Eddie opens his gift and sees a new pair of boxing gloves. “Thank you.” He says, kissing Buck.
Chris smiles and says, “Santa brought me my Christmas wish again.”
“What was your wish?” Eddie asks.
“I asked for Buck to get his memory back for Christmas. I knew how sad you both were and I wanted you to be happy.” Chris says.
“That was such an unselfish wish Chris.” Buck says.
“Yeah, I am so proud of you.” Eddie says.
“We both are.” Buck adds.
Chris hugs them both. “Merry Christmas dad, Merry Christmas Buck.” He says.
“Merry Christmas Chris.” They both say.
They all agreed that it was one of the best Christmases they ever had. Not because of the material gifts they received, but because they were all together as a family. It helped them to remember what Christmas was truly about. It wasn't about the presents. It was about family and the love they shared.
