Chapter 1: Break me slowly

Chapter Text

“Kyleeee!” Kyle’s mother yelled, startling him as he sat up abruptly, only to be met by his mother in the doorway. She ran towards her son and yanked the covers off his body.

“Did you not hear your alarm?! Get up!” Kyle scrambled out of bed, grabbing his green ushanka hat.

He threw on a random white button down and his usual brown colored sweater vest, paired with some baggy jeans and white shoes.

He popped a piece of gum in his mouth and hoped that would soothe his hunger for the next few hours. He sprinted out of his room, down the steps, and out the front door, he didn't have time to wait for Ike because he had ceremony practice.

— — —

Kyle rushed towards the dusty yellow vehicle at the bus stop, just barely squeezing inside right as the doors were closing. He quietly greeted the bus driver and sat down next to Cartman, something he had gotten used to these past weeks. Kenny started sitting with Clyde and he doesn't care much for Stan right now.

“Hey Kahlllll, so you know that super awesome fun exciting party at Tolkien's this weekend?” Cartman says, his voice causing Kyle to have a headache.

“Im not going.” Kyle winces at the bluntness in his voice, but he remembers that it's Cartman, so he doesn’t really care.

Eric’s eyebrows shoot up and he snaps his head towards Kyle.

“What do you mean you’re not going, you can't just not go!”

“I have to study after school, I can't go even if I wanted to”

Eric rolled his eyes but before he could open his mouth to say anything, the bus stopped abruptly, the jolt shut him up immediately.

Kyle practically jumped out of his seat and headed straight for the door. When the bus door opened up, he was the first one out, only to be pulled aside by Bebe, the team captain of the cheerleaders.

She had her coily hair in a slick ponytail, with gold glitter on her cheeks. She had on her usual “Go Cows!” cheerleading outfit, with the exception of Clyde's jacket.

“Kyle, can I ask you a question? It's about Stan-” Kyle shook his head, cutting her off mid sentence.

“I don't hang out with him anymore. I gotta go Bebe” Kyle turned towards the school but before he could start walking, Bebe called out to him again.

“Just promise me you’ll sit with me and Wendy during lunch okay?” She had a concerned look on her face and her tone was oddly comforting, it made Kyle want to melt in her arms and cry his eyes out. He just turned his head back to her and nodded, not trusting his voice enough to say anything yet.

— — —

The ceremony was set to start in 3 weeks, but people were there as early as 6:00 AM to help out with all of the decorations and planning.

Kyle rushed into the gym with a bundle of papers in his hands. As head boy of the student council, he was in charge of the opening speech and the closing speech.

“No, no, no! You've got it all wrong! It's supposed to be green, white, black, and pink! Not pink, black, green, and white! It's a cow for god's sake!” Wendy’s voice rang through the gymnasium.

Kyle walked towards Wendy and gave her a tiny wave.

“Hi Wendy.” She turned around and squealed.

“Kyle! Where have you been, the ceremony starts in 3 weeks, we need to start planning! Do you have your suit- oh wait it's with Mr. Mackey, hurry and get it, he’s in his office!” Wendy spoke hurriedly, startling Kyle in the process.

“Uh-uh yes ma’am”

“Oh- and Kyle, did Bebe already talk to you about stan?” Kyle nodded and started picking at his fingertips nervously, walking away from Wendy.

— — —

“Uh Mr. Mackey?” Kyle’s hand gripped the counselor's office door tightly as he pushed it open.

“Mr. Mackey, I'm here for my suit, Wendy said you had it.” Mr. Mackey looked up from his desk and smiled.

“Oh hi Kyle, I do have your suit, it's packed safely in my drawer m'kay” Mr. Mackey opened the drawer and fell silent. He looked up at Kyle, staring at him for a few moments, though those few moments felt like centuries to Kyle as he realized what had happened.

Mr. Mackey lost the suit. Mr. Mackey lost the suit. Mr. Mackey lost the suit. Mr. Mackey lost the suit?!

— — —

Kyle dashed through the cramped hallways, pushing and shoving people in the process. A bead of sweat rolled down his face as he finally made it to the gym. He quickly spotted Wendy and ran to her.

“Wendy, you gotta help me out here!”

Wendy flinched at the sudden disturbance but once she realized it was Kyle, she loosened up and chuckled. “What, did you forget your oh so necessary beauty nap?” Wendy joked but her face straightened up once she realized Kyle was serious. “Well what's wrong, and where's your suit?” Wendy's questions only filled Kyle's head with more panic.

“I asked Mr. Mackey if he had my suit and dude, I think he lost it!” Wendy gasped and her face turned red.

“WHAT?!”

“Do you know anyone else that might have it?!” Wendy sighs, she taps her pen on her clipboard and closes her eyes in disgust.

“I think I might have an idea.”

— — —

Wendy and Kyle stood outside of Mr. Garrison’s classroom, hesitant to go in.

“So who's gonna tell him?”

Kyle asked , he bit his bottom lip and started picking at his fingertips. Wendy took a deep breath and knocked on the door, Mr. Garrison walked up to the door and opened it.

“Well? What do you two want?!” Mr. Garrison lifted one eyebrow, sounding extremely annoyed.

“We need to speak with Stanley Marsh, sir” Mr. Garrison scoffed at Wendy’s demand.

“And why should I let you talk to him?” Wendy opened her mouth to speak but Kyle held a finger up, signaling for him to talk.

“Mr. Garrison, this is a really important event and Stan has the suit I need to wear. So if you could find it in your heart to let us talk to him, you’d be saving me, Wendy, and the whole entire ceremony.” Kyle clasped his hands together and gave Mr. Garrison puppy dog eyes.

“Eugh, I..I suppose I could let him come out here for a few minutes” Mr. Garrison reluctantly gave in.

He went back into his classroom and came out with the half bleach headed boy, then he headed back inside, closing the door behind him so that they could have privacy.

Kyle scratched the back of his neck, feeling a bit awkward now that Stan actually was here. Stan sighed and just stared at Wendy with longing.

“What did you guys need?” Stan questions them.

“Stan, did you ever pick up a suit from Mr. Mackey?” Wendy asks Stan and he nods in response.

“Uhm yeah, you told me to..” Kyle sighs and Stan glares at him.

“Okay well where is it now?”

Kyle’s voice cracked in the middle of his question, earning a quick giggle from Wendy. “The suit? It's in my locker”

Kyle let out a breath he didn't even know he was holding. An awkward silence falls over the three for a moment before Wendy eventually breaks it;

“Well what are we waiting for?”

— — —

Stan opened his locker door hastily, the folded outfit in pristine condition. Kyle immediately grabbed it.
“Um- I tried to keep it as clean as possible..’M sorry if it’s not-”

He was abruptly interrupted by a warm embrace from none other than Wendy.

“Oh thank you, thank you! You know, I was so worried that you would lose it!” Stan blushed slightly at the unexpected contact and hugged her back.

Kyle stared at them for a moment before disappearing into the nearest bathroom.

Stan watched as Kyle walked away, but he couldn't think much of it at the moment. The scent of Wendy’s shampoo filling his nostrils, making it impossible to think straight

“Ive missed this…” Wendy mutters, before stopping herself. “No, scratch that, I've missed you,” Her head rests against Stan’s shoulder, her soft silky black hair tickling his neck.

“Ive…Ive missed you too.” Stan admits, as he holds Wendy's delicate body in his hands. They stand there for a few minutes, silently holding each other in a soft embrace.

“I'm sorry Stan, I'm really really sorry, I never knew how much I hurt you” Wendy lifts her head and presses a soft kiss to his cheek, Stan jolts and shakes his head away from her.

“No, Wendy. You broke up with me, don't forget that. I'm not gonna sit here and pretend like everything's okay, because it's not. If you really cared about me, then you would let me go.” The words burned as soon as they left his mouth, but he knew they had to be said.

Stan takes a few steps back and looks at Wendy. Her silky raven locks that were pin-perfect straight, her beautiful magenta halter top, and a simple but lively black skirt.

God, she was gorgeous.

“Well, is it alright if we can stay friends? You're a great person Stan, boyfriend or not, I never wanna lose you.” The ravenette moves closer to Stan and she rests her hands on his shoulders.

“Yea, I guess that’s fine..” He relaxed for a minute before jumping out of his skin when he heard the slam of a door closing. Kyle stormed over to them.

“What the hell Wendy?! You know what he did to me, to us, and you’re just..forgiving him?!” Kyle’s throat burned with every word he shot at her. He blinked back the salty water in his eyes, as he tasted the betrayal in his lungs, how could she do this to him?!

— — —

When Kyle and Wendy first became friends, the one thing that brought them together more than ever was their hatred for Stan. He had leeched off of them for far too long and they soon became tired and restless. After breaking off with Stan, they ran into each other. Ever since then, they had been inseparable.

— — —

“Kyle, he said he was sorry, he apologized! You’re being so unreasonable!” Wendy yelled back.

“Unreasonable?! Me?! You’re the one befriending my ex-best friend that we both agreed was bad for us! You never stop to think about your actions and how they could affect others!”

“You know what, I’m done with you! You’re always complaining about something, you never have a good attitude, and you’re just annoying in general! I really hope you stop being such a prissy brat and grow up Kyle!” Wendy grabbed onto Stan's hand and stormed away.
